About Ed & Diane Grunseth

Ed & Diane have been self-employed artists throughout their life. Diane paints in oil. Ed makes furniture and sculpture. Their small family business - The Kristian Brunsdale Studio - is named after Ed's Norwegian grandfather.

Ed & Diane Grunseth purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Ed & Diane Grunseth chose Montana

We moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Montana to turn the clock back in a rural alpine setting with mountains, water and trees - the Montana dream! We're still near civilization with the towns of Livingston (35 miles away) & Bozeman (50 miles away) that have amenities such as the university in Bozeman, a very good hospital, excellent art galleries and great dining. Our place has allowed us to build and expand our studio, enjoy the outdoors with its abundant wildlife - it's a 24/7 vacation for us!

What makes this cabin unique

One walk on the property and we were sold because of the one acre pond, Horse Creek running along its border and the heavy Doug Fir forest for us to play in. An additional bonus is the great neighbors doing a wide variety of things from ranching to the arts (painters, writers, photographers & more) to cowboys and the fun and excitement that Wilsall brings with it's seasonal events and just hanging out. And there's road trips!

Quiet and Private

  • 5 of 5

After a week of exploring Yellowstone, Tetons, and the back roads of Idaho and Montana, my wife and I wanted to spend a couple of nights away from the tourists and the noise. Cabin was exactly as we wanted! Extra Clean, nice views from their hiking trail and private. We drove in from Bozeman(bought groceries in Bozeman), and the driving directions were great. Private parking and private driveway. The rolling thunderstorm's in the valleys was also a bonus. Wish we would have booked for a longer stay! If we decide to go to Glacier NP, will book again.

A fun cabin with a view

  • 5 of 5

I stayed a total of 4 nights in this cabin, which is perfectly tucked away in the woods. I remember walking in and feeling at home right away. I was so impressed by the details and couldn’t believe this was a “cabin”. Ed and Diane have truly out done themselves with this beautiful getaway home. If the cabin wasn’t enough, the view on top of their property is breath taking- I think I took a million pictures of this view! They have two benches positioned up there so you can sit and just soak in the view and the perfect quietness. It was a spot I frequented a lot and basically got lost in the view.

Driving to the surrounding cities does take about an hour or two depending on how far out you want to go, but trust me, the drive is one of the best parts of the trip. Montana has so many different landscapes all around that everywhere you turn; you have something gorgeous to look at.

I was very sad to leave and have already discussed coming back and staying again next summer! I highly recommend booking your next Montana adventure here!

Cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This amazing cabin was the perfect getaway for a long labor day weekend. The cabin was amazingly done with small little touches everywhere from the kitchen doors to the dresser, you can tell the cabin is owned by artists. The cabin was so cozy and the bed so comfy it would have been hard to leave it every day if it wasn't for the view. There was a hiking trail up to the top of the hill where you could get an amazing view of the mountains and the stars were unbelievable at night. It was the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. I was very sad to leave and hope to make a return trip where I can stay longer soon.

Relaxed in Natures Splendor

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I came here for our long overdue honeymoon to Montana & Yellowstone. The cabin itself is lovely & it was obvious that the owners put a lot of thought into the construction & decor. We loved little touches like the easy to use gas grill on the deck or the horn door handles in the bathroom. We loved listening to some of the CD's they provide while making dinner. We also loved walking around the guided trails. We saw deer, rabbits, hawks, snakes, and a hummingbird came about a foot away from me on the deck. Just magical! We visited Chico hot springs & the city of Livingston while there & spent one night just relaxing at the cabin. There is so much to do nearby yet the cabin is about 8 miles into farmland & remote enough to really get some peace. Plus we like that Ed & Dianes cabin was still close enough up the hill should there be any emergency. There is wifi about 3/4 of a mile away & quite frankly that was perfect for us as we wanted some distance from the regular noise in our lives. PLUS they provided directions to places like Sulpher Springs, Chico, Yellowstone's North gate, and other places so you didn't need GPS.

Interestingly we stayed at a different cabin in Yellowstone for the last few days of our get away that costs more but had 1/4 the charm, beauty, and tranquility that the Crazy Mountain cabin provided. We highly recommend this place & hope to be back next year & stay there for longer.

A True Gem.

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful cabin was the perfect place for a 6 night stay on our honeymoon. The furniture is artfully done and the amenities are hard to beat. We shared quiet mornings with coffee on the deck and hiked to the top of the hill on Ed and Diane's property for a wonderful view. The kitchen and supplies are well kept and the full sized refrigerator and pantry space make the cabin feel like your home away from home.

Ed and Diane were incredibly kind and we encourage you to walk down the hill to meet them! We asked for advice about the area on our first night at the cabin, which helped guide our adventures. They are extremely knowledgeable about the area and their level of hospitality is hard to beat!

Beat expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin over Labor Day weekend. Since one goal was to leave the business of California, we were ecstatic to be 8 miles out on a gravel country road. Another goal was to go north, south, east and west of the cabin -- and that was easy to do. Went a day to Yellowstone, another day toward Bozeman, another day to the rodeo in Sulfur Springs, the cabin was centrally located to the spots we visited. We also was hoping to see wild life and we did! Saw eagles, hawks, magpies, antelope, two bull moose, the family of deer who live there, even saw a porcupine. The photos do not do justice to how quaint the cabin is, their artistry is on display at every corner. We did have one time we needed internet and found that if you walked by their shop it was available. The back deck is spacious and very relaxing, quiet!! We will stay there again next year -- so kind of hoping it stays a secret.
