Waterfront/beachfront property with a fireplace. 3 bedroom, 1 bath
Summer 2018 weekly booking schedule is from a SUNDAY to SUNDAY only between June 24, 2018, and September 9, 2018. At all other times it is a 2 night minimum.
An original log cabin inside, this property is on the bay in Grand Marais, Michigan. The Bay Cabin is a small 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin with a study. It has a beach in the backyard, as it is fronting onto the bay in Grand Marais. A few yards short of the beach is the firepit where you can relax and watch fireworks on July 4 or just enjoy the tranquility of the water. The Bay Cabin also has a large deck for relaxing or dining while taking advantage of the great views. Behind the property a few hundred feet is the Lake Superior shore front.
Inside the Bay Cabin you will find a fully equipped kitchen, soft and comfortable bed and bath linen and cable TV. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a 3 inch memory foam topper and a view of the bay. The second bedroom has a full size bed. The third bedroom has bunk beds and the study has a twin bed. You will also find a lovely granite gas fireplace to warm your toes in the living room when there is a chill in the air.
The Bay Cabin was originally built in 1936 as a traditional full log cabin. Sometime later it was sided on the outside for additional insulation, but the inside remains true whole logs. The floors are lovely local hardwood with soft rugs placed in strategic spots. A soft leather couch and rocking chairs with ottomans completes the log cabin decor.
Outside there is a large deck with reclining chairs and ottomans, and a dining table. Under the side porch we have placed a wood picnic bench for outside dining on a hot sunny summer day or for when it is raining. For relaxing, with a warm beverage or a cocktail, use the deck chairs or the Bay Cabin's Adirondack chairs down at the firepit and beach. There is also a charcoal grill available for your use.
The Bay Cabin's private beach area IS 122 feet at the water's edge and 118 feet at the bank starting from the pine trees on the east side of the property. This beach is perfect for swimming, paddling, boating from, or even for pulling your sea plane into. It is also a wonderful place to sit at the edge of the water and enjoy an evening cocktail or a morning coffee. If you would like a long beach walk, just head to the open beach on the north side of the Bay Cabin by the beach accesses at either end of the road.
The Bay Cabin is about 600 feet from the center of town, playground, markets, stores, galleries, restaurants and bars. Go the other way 500 feet and you'll be at the lighthouse. Less than two miles away by road is Sable Falls and Sable Dunes, a shorter distance away if you walk the beach. Sable Lake, the Log Slide and Pictured Rocks are a little further on by road.
Come stay at the Bay Cabin and enjoy the experience of having your own waterfront cabin for a while.
Open between late spring (May 15, 2015) to last week of October. Summer bookings: from last week of June to end of the first full week of September bookings are weekly only from Sunday to Sunday. At other times bookings may start on any day for a 2 night minimum.

What a great place to stay. I wouldn’t change a thing about the place.
It was very clean. It had everything we needed for cooking some pretty great meals. It was pretty cold outside but it was toasty warm in the cabin. We loved being able to see out the slider at night when we went to sleep. I would go back to this cabin any time
Beautiful, well kept property with all needed amenities.
We absolutely loved staying here. The cabin was very comfortable and had a nice updated bathroom. Kitchen amenities were great and we were able to cook everything we wanted to. Beds were clean and comfortable, and the cabin was very clean which is hard to find in many up-North properties. Unfortunately the gas fireplace was not working during our stay (we were notified in advance), however heaters were provided and kept the cabin very comfortable. The outdoor patio was great and the patio furniture was nice. There was a fire pit and dry firewood provided, which was a great bonus for us. I would love to stay here again if there is another opportunity!
Quiet, relaxing, great views!
My husband and I stayed here during the first half of our honeymoon exploring the upper peninsula. There was plenty of space for us and our two yellow labs. The view off the back porch was beautiful. Our dogs loved running on the beach and playing in the water right in the back yard. The cabin was clean and beds were very comfortable. My only complaint would be the tight fit in the room we stayed in (if you are sleeping closest to the wall you have to climb over the other person to get out of bed). We could have solved that by staying in a different room but liked having the bigger bed. Nice sized kitchen with everything we needed for cooking our own meals. We ate at the Grand Marais Tavern for lunch in town with great food and stopped at the agate museum. It was a nice central location for the places we wanted to visit on the Eastern UP with everything within an hour or two driving distance. Close to pictured rocks shoreline as well. We would love to come back again. Seems like a great place to stay for family vacations or a trip with friends as well.
This was our second visit to the cabin. Great location and a lovely little town. The owner let us know that there was a problem with the fireplace, but offered us a refund if we wanted and told us about what they were doing about the issue. It was a very minor inconvenience and the space heater was more than enough to keep us toasty warm on those cool UP nights. I really appreciated the owner giving us an option to cancel. It says so much about her honesty and desire for her guests to have the relaxing time they are looking for. The cabin is exactly as described and shown. It's a perfect base to explore the UP and you can be assured that the owner cares about the quality of your stay. We plan on making the trip to the cabin an annual event (at least until we can buy our own place by The Big Lake)!
Great little getaway right on the bay. Close to town & the point. Well kept & private, very nice. Will definitely return.
Very clean you litte rental house
The house is in a great little spot. I’m glad we noticed from the pictured that the bedrooms had nice drapes over the bed room doors, otherwise that might have caught us off guard. But the bathroom ahas a very cute barn door. If it wasn’t so breeezy we would’ve sat out and enjoyed the patio and nice fire ring.
I’d like to add this property is very clean and well cared for. I was particularly happy when we walked in for the first time. Then when I read the guest book and saw who had been there before and that they had their pets, I was extremely impressed. The is really one of the cleanest places we have stayed in.
Situated in the charming town of Grand Marais, Michigan, this beachfront/bayfront property (The Bay Cabin) is approximately 500 feet from town and about 500 feet from the lighthouse on the point. 200 feet behind the property is the Lake Superior shore, a favorite for rock collectors. Sable Dunes and Sable Falls is approximately a mile by road or less if you walk the beach. Sable Lake is around 2 miles away from The Bay Cabin. The local bars and restaurants are about 500 feet away and the same for the local markets and playground. The Grand Marais bay is a good spot to pull your sailing boat into, and in fact, you can park it in the water infront of The Bay Cabin. The area is also a favorite for snowmobilers, hunters and general summer goers. Local fireworks are set off over the bay for July 4th and New Years Eve.
