Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house, sleeps up to 10

Located a 10 minute drive from the historic medieval town of Salo, Ca' dei Serniga has fantastic views over the entire southern end of Lake Garda. The 50 year old house has recently been renovated to a high standard with a modern interior.

On the ground floor there is a large lounge with TV, DVD player, comfortable L shaped sofas with double and single sofa beds and a day bed. There is a stylish, glass fronted log fire set into the wall. There are Utility and Storage rooms and a downstairs WC. There is also an enclosed 'portico' area covering the full width of the house with dining table seating 10, with double doors opening to the garden.

Upstairs there are two wonderful double bedrooms with spectacular views, each with ensuite facilities and a third bedroom which has bunk beds and 4 single beds, able to sleep 6. This bedroom has its own separate bathroom.

water sports: If you can drag yourselves away from the house, Lake Garda has some excellent water sports with boat hire possible nearby for motor and sailing boats. In addition there are world class kite and windsurfing opportunities, particularly further north on the lake. Toscalano Maderno, 5Km away, has a lively beach area with diving platform that acts as a great meeting place for the young and young at heart!

.

ferries: A great way of exploring Lake Garda is by hopping on and off ferries that travel around the lake. There are published timetables and the services are very professionally run and they provide a relaxing and relatively inexpensive way to see as much or as little as you like.

A car ferry crosses the lake between Toscalano Maderno and Torri del Benaco with services every 30 minutes. This can be a fun way to cross the lake and travel on to eg Verona for a day's sightseeing.

About Josh Herlihy

We live in London most of the time but love Italy, particularly the Lakes, but think the Italians have really got the right priorities in life! Hopefully we can spend much more time there, as we move towards retirement.

Josh Herlihy purchased this house in 2002

Why Josh Herlihy chose Province of Brescia

We looked for several months and had narrowed the search down to Lake Garda, particularly the area around Salo. We discovered the beautiful hamlet of Serniga with the most stunning views of the lake and then, amazingly found that this lovely house was potentially for sale. Some months of concluding the contract and renovations then took place before we were able to move in. It's not a holiday home, it's OUR home and we are so lucky to be looking after it!

What makes this house unique

It's a big solid house with great sized rooms but the view from the house and garden is spectacular. We never tire of it and it changes every single day. The neighbours have become great friends over the 10+ years that we have owned the house, so welcoming and hospitable. We added a pool 3 years ago and the views from it over the lake are spectacular.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We (3 couples, 55-60 years old) spent 2 weeks in June 2011

in this house with a remarkable view over the lake and

we very much enjoyed our stay in this well equipped and

maintained property, where we found everything we needed.

The little village of Serniga is very quiet and about 6 km away

from the lake. In general, we found this western side of the lake

much more pleasant than the sometimes very crowded eastern

side.

All restaurants, recommended by the owner or found by ourselves,

located near the house, on the way down to Salò or in town provided

excellent food and relatively cheap water and wine, together with an

extremely friendly service and staff.

We fully recommend this place and will surely come back soon."

Halloween 2009

  • 5 of 5

The accomodation was superb - a wonderful introduction to Lake Garda. House was extremely practical and the owners had clearly thought of all requirements that their guest may have. Views from the house were stunning and the area where the house is located felt extremely safe, which was important to us with a young family. The inside of the property was immaculate and we were provided with wonderful service by the host upon arrival. The owners also provided us with tremendous information of the local area and places to go - all of which proved extremely accurate and useful. We would thoroughly recommend the restaurant proposed by the owners. We shall be back at the first opportunity.

great house with amazing views

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay for 5 nights. The house is beautiful with fantastic views of lake garda. It's very well maintained. Did not use the pool as it had not been cleaned, dried leaves etc in the water, but it's a proper pool. The house is quite high up in a hill, so the road to get up and down to salo is winding, but worth the ride. Great agriturismo restaurants near by as well. The only criticism I have is that it took nearly three days for the wifi to be set up because of a public holiday in Italy, in my opinion this should've been done well in advance as I had booked the property months ago. Other than that a lovely experience altogether.

Wundervolle Ferien

  • 4 of 5

perfect just what we hoped it would be

  • 4 of 5

Stayed for two weeks with my brothers family in August, perfect peaceful location with a great view over the lake, spent most days on or around the lake on several different beaches , but it was always lovely coming back to the house in the early evening to just sit at the front of the house and relax.

The drive up and down takes about 15 mins with spectacular views of the lake and we would often come back to the house to get ready, then drop back down into Salo for our evening meal,

The house was big enough for 2 family's even thou the kids did have to share a room for 5. But they enjoyed it anyway being cousins of ages 12 to 20.

The swimming pool was larger than expected and plenty of room to sit around with again great views.

I even enjoyed the 10 min drive in the morning to the local village of San Michele for the mornings bread , cheese & ham.

All in all a great holiday that both family's really enjoyed, we even managed a day trip to Venice by train

Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at Josh's place. The house is very spacious, tastefully renovated, and clean. The pool is a good size, and easy to get to up steps at the back. There's a great view from there, and an even better one from the front terrace. The view is the best thing of all about the house, and the photos don't do it justice: it's mesmerising. The house is well positioned, up a winding but good road, from the bottom of which you can easily access the lake's attractions. Nearby Salo is a delight, and less touristy than the towns on the other side. Recommended. PS the housekeeper, Ioana, was very responsive when we needed assistance

Wonderful holidays for the whole family

  • 5 of 5

With our Kids and Grand-children we spend one week in Serniga. a litte village near Saló. Our house was beautiful, every room clean and lovely.

The best on our house was the pool and the stunning view over the lake.

The environment was very quiet and peacefull so it was perfect for relaxing.

We were provided with a good customer service. If we had questions we only had to call our very friendly Manager and one hour later she was there to give us advice.

All in all it was a perfect week for all of our family members, even the little ones had their fun.

Of course we recommend this stunning house for everybody who wants to have a time he will never forget.

Serniga is a small pretty hamlet about a ten minute drive up the hill from the historic and beautiful medieval town of Salo. The winding road from Salo to Serniga is called the 'via Panoramica' which has breathtaking views of the lake. There is a small shop and bar with restaurants in the nearby village of san Michele, which is about 2km away.

Beyond this is Toscolano Maderno, a charming lakeside resort with beach and diving platform, which proves popular in the summer months with locals and tourists alike. The road alongside the lake passes through several pretty villages on its way to Riva del Garda at the northern tip of Lake Garda. This area is world renowned for sailing and wind and kite surfing. The scenery and views of and from the mountains are spectacular.

The town of Salo has considerable charm with some great restaurants, bars and shops. It has historical significance with Mussolini running Italy from 1943 to 1944 from the nearby Villa Feltrinelli, now a luxury hotel.

Golf: There are courses nearby at Garda Golf (25 minutes away), Arzaga (25 mins) with a stunning hotel/palazzo and great course, Bogliaco (20 Mins) and a 9 hole course with driving range and practice facilities at Colombare just outside Salo (15 mins)

Ski: Italy's most fashionable ski resort is Madonna di Campiglio which is 100 km north of the house. The scenic drive takes about an hour and three quarters. There are good ski and equipment hire facilities at the resort and it is certainly possible to go there and back in a day. Nearer to the house there is the smaller resort of Gaver, which is 40km away, but Madonna is the bigger and better option.
