This 4 bedroom craftsman home is located within short walking distance to Hotel Lake and a five minute drive to 2 fabulous hikes at Pender Hill and Daniel Point. The cottage sits on .6 of an acre and is surrounded by tall firs and cedars. The large wrap around deck is perfect for morning coffee, breakfast, bbq'ing, soaking in the sun or watching stars in the evening. There are three bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a soaker-tub. In the winter, the wood stove provides a warm, cozy atmosphere. The beautiful white sand beach of Katherine Lake is a five minute drive. There is a 9 hole golf course spectacularly situated by the ocean and only 15 minutes away. There are gorgeous walks (runs) with full ocean views along the road to Daniel Point. Madeira Park is 20 minutes away and has two grocery stores (IGA), coffee shops and a liquor store. Our cottage is central to a variety of restaurants and entertainment locales. The Pender Harbour Jazz Festival (September 14-16) is a highly attended and enjoyable event. Ruby Lake Nature Resort is 25 minutes away and provides opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and a night out at a phenomenal Italian restaurant serving organic food. Garden Bay Pub has live music nightly and a stunning deck on the bay. Laverne's Grill, in the heart of Garden Bay, is a must for fish and chips. John Henry's Marina has a liquor store and a small but varied selection of groceries. In the summer, Rosendale Farm sells fresh local produce along the roadside or you can stop by their farm on the way to our Cottage. The Pender Harbour Aquatic/Fitness Center has a pool, hottub and fitness facility. It is only 10 minutes away.
My brother (a builder on the coast) built our cottage in 2002. We have used the cottage every summer and almost every Christmas since then. We currently live in Oregon and have been able to continue to use the cottage each year. My wife and I both run and Pender allows us a variety of routes with phenomenal views. We spend a great deal of time at the lake with the kids. Katherine Lake has two floating docks, perfect for jumping and diving. Hotel Lake is a short walk up the road and we often just jump in while on a run or hike. Our kids never tire of the deer in the backyard, blackberries along the road, or long summer days at the water.
david ward or ariana ward purchased this house in 2002
Back in 2000 we realized quickly that buying a home in Vancouver was out of the question. With my brother being a builder it made sense for us to find a place we could afford and yet enjoy to the fullest. We have never regretted the decision. The cottage has become a symbol for our family - a place where we hike, swim, run, canoe, talk, and read together. The location and views allow for both contemplation and healthy exercise.
I am a writer. The cottage has been a place for me to write at least three novels and one picture book. The quiet, the uninterrupted slower pace allowed for a great deal of writing productivity. Equally, the cottage is full of benefits to our whole family. Our son and daughters practice with a bow and arrow along the side of the cottage. All three kids collect rocks and sticks and invent games together. My wife is a marathoner and uses the Pender hills for daily training. The large kitchen and open concept of the living room has made the perfect setting for entertaining guests. A family friend did most of the carpentry including hand built kitchen cabinets, the island in the kitchen, the stairs and handrails and the outside decks as well. There is also a hand made dining room table made from lumber that came from an 80 year old building in Vancouver! We love our Pender cottage.
We stayed 5 nights at this great property. Fantastic location, a feeling of seclusion but just a short walk or drive to sites. Hotel lake up the street is great for a swim or canoe (we did both). There are other lakes nearby all looked worthy of checking out. Wildlife everywhere! Deer, foxes, beavers, etc. you name it. We actually named one deer Tami because she was so docile and calm around us. The cabin is well stocked with pretty much anything you would need. Plenty of room for everyone. Looking forward to coming back in the future!
We stayed for five nights July. There was lot of wows when we walked thru the front doors. We were six adults from Ontario attending a wedding. The cottage was spotless with four good size bedrooms. We could walk down to the Garden Bay pub, which his located right on the ocean. Just down the road from the pub is Laverne grill really good shakes and fish&chips. We ate lunch there and watched a pair of bald eagles. Lots of hiking.kayaking and artists to visit. Ariana and David were very quick with any inquires. Would highly recommend this place if on the Sunshine Coast. Thanks so much Brian
We stayed for 4 night and 5 days. we really enjoyed the place and I recommended to lots of my friend this house, and we will come back again for sure.
We arrived here for a 5 night stay at the end of August 2014...all 8 of us plus one dog! What a spot. Close to many sights to see in the area, yet tucked away in such a tranquil location. The cottage was stunning and we were thoroughly impressed with how comfortable and "at home" we felt. The hosts have everything you need there. We biked, hiked, swam, paddled and ran...it was great to be there and we will be back. Thank you!!
We got 8 people together from 3 different families and had a great stay. None of us were familiar with the area and the information that the hosts had put together in their info binder was invaluable. The home is very well equipped for people who are arriving by plane and are not able to bring much with them. The area is full of interesting walking destinations and features a very unique combination of seaside, lake and cottage country vibes. We'll be back!
The house was better than described and the owners could not have been more friendly and cooperative. We had a fantastic stay only minutes from a warm pristine lake and a few kms form stores and restaurants. There was plenty of room for 10 people and the house was in beautiful shape with lots of games and books if required. I wanted my family from the UK to experience a Canadian holiday and it could not have been better. Thank you so much.

Our home is near 4 lakes and several hiking trails. We have a canoe and boogie boards for use. There is a wrap around deck to enjoy the sunshine at all hours of the day. The home is nestled within giant fir trees and provides a calm, serene environment. The cabin is ideal for families or relaxing group get-a-ways.
