Converted barn with hilltop views in chianti wine region

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,421 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Beautifully restored 3-bed villa with large private garden. Shared 20 metre pool

The Barn at Bagnaie is a luxury 3-bedroom Tuscan villa, which we have modernised and furnished to a high standard.

The interior mixes traditional materials with Italian modern design. The large living room features an open log fireplace, original terracotta tiles and wooden doors leading out onto the south terrace and gardens. There is a separate kitchen/dining area fitted with marble worktops and equiped with all the utensils a serious food lover needs to be able to enjoy local market produce and Le Bagnaie's kitchen garden. There are also double doors from the kitchen leading out to the terrace and the vine-covered pergola. The villa's private landscaped garden - rich with cherry, pomegranate and fig trees and with a built-in BBQ - surrounds the property and enjoys 360-degree views of the countryside, including the distant Duomo of Siena to the south and the towers of San Gimignano to the west.

Our villa sits in the small hamlet of Bagnaie, where we share our hilltop with 7 other houses. We have a full time gardener who maintains the extensive gardens and grounds as well as the shared 20m pool, which is solar heated. There is also a tennis court can be used all year round and a boules pitch.

We have a local property manager (English and Italian speaking) who will be available during your stay to assist you where necessary.

We can arrange for meals to be cooked at the house for you if wanted by local chefs.

Beautiful stay in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Amazing property, with stunning views. Our visit was in winter so we didn’t use the pool, tennis court etc but the house was beautifully warm when we weren’t out exploring what the region has to see. The owner arranged for Jacky (the lovely property manager) to fill a shopping list for me as we arrived on a public holiday. She also arranged for the wonderful Serena to give my daughter a cooking lesson and prepare an outstanding dinner for us one night.

Would love to visit again, but in summer, so we could enjoy barbecuing on the terrace when all the grape vines would be covered in foliage.

I have stayed at Le Bagnaie several times over the past 20 years, and at "The Barn," specifically, at least 4-5 times. I am convinced it has the most beautiful views in Tuscany. The property is lovely, beautifully maintained, surrounded by lush greenery and a perfectly situated infinity pool. "The Barn" is in a separate, stand alone building at the end of the villas and offers more outdoor space, privacy, and sunrise and sunset views. Driving in Tuscany is not for the faint of heart, but for many, well worth the effort and the only way to see it. Each of the villas I have stayed in is nicely appointed and the location is perfect for exploring Siena, Florence, and all of the Chianti region. You can even go farther afield to parts of Umbria and the Cinque Terra with Tuscany as your base. I cannot recommend Le Bagnaie and The Barn, in particular, more highly. You, too, will keep coming back ... or want to!

Wonderful October Visit

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth time at the Barn at Le Bagnaie (which is a recommendation in itself). As usual the facilities were superb, the staff friendly and the wild boar delicious! We’ll be back again!

Beautiful Base, and Good for the Soul

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I shared this amazing villa with two other couples, and we all loved it. As other reviewers noted, it is even more beautiful than the pictures. I was always the first one up, to watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee, and there is something deeply satisfying about the peace, and looking out over the vineyards and olive trees. There were tenants in the other nearby villas, but we always felt very private, beyond a friendly wave if we passed another car on the long drive-way. We played tennis most every morning, using the rackets at the house, and enjoyed the spacious pool as well (although very cold, despite being heated). The villa was well situated for day trips to Siena and Florence, as well as the charming medieval hill towns. We also enjoyed a lunch and tour of the Casamonti Farm, that raises distinctive black and white pigs, and is a quick drive or hour’s hike from the villa. We highly recommend booking some dinners by Serena, who is very fun, and an amazing cook. Corin helped us with arrangements. Serena brought all the ingredients herself, including fresh vegetables from her garden, and wild boar for braising, and started preparing the meal while we were off touring. It was great to have a relaxed evening at the beautiful villa, eating Serena’s tasty food, with nothing to do ourselves but select the wine.

We did have some trouble navigating on the unpaved road, even with our GPS, and especially at night. But this was a small price to pay for the beauty and charm of this villa. Corin and Jackie were responsive and helpful.

Beautiful Tuscan Stay

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved our stay at The Barn. Only slight downfall was the shared pool as we went over a very popular period of time so there were a lot of children but apart from that it was lovely. The Barn itself was beautiful and comfortable - incredible sunset views. We had Serena for 3 nights which is an ABSOLUTE must. She was amazing. Unbelievable food and so so friendly. The town of Castellina is lovely as well.

AMAZING views and the pool was our favorite place to unwind from the day:)

  • 5 of 5

We stayed July 15-22 and had an unbelievable experience. The barn was such a treat to stay in for our first trip to Tuscany! My husband and I kept pinching ourselves because the views from the private patio area were better than we would have ever imagined. The pictures on the website are great, but to see it in person is indescribable. We really didn't stay in the house much with all of the travel throughout the day to the awesome cities in the area, but when we were at the house, we spent most of our time at the community pool which is HUGE! And clean and not crowded at all. The pool may have the best view of the entire place. Hint: There is a "secret" patio beneath the pool veranda that also has a fantastic view looking out at San Gimangano on a clear evening.

We would definitely stay here again if we booked the trip all over again!

About Corin Bennett

I live in London, UK but have been going to Italy since my childhood.

Corin Bennett purchased this villa in 1987

Why Corin Bennett chose Castellina In Chianti

My parents bought this house as a family holiday home and it is still used by my family and my sister. When we are not there we like others to enjoy its amazing surroundings.

What makes this villa unique

Our house sits on a small hill and has the most amazing views of the Tuscan countryside and ancient towns in the distance.

Wonderful combination of rolling hills with scattered old tuscan style farm houses. Everywhere are rows of vines sometimes interspersed with olive tree groves and in spring with bright yellow sun flowers waving in the sunshine.

Less than 30 minutes from the house one can be in the centre of the beautiful old city of Siena. Here it is possible to explore or just unwind and dine.
