Greg & I live in small town Okotoks just outside of Calgary, Alberta.
We fell in love with Invermere back in 1989 after not having been this way since childhood! After going back many times, we finally decided to buy a brand new townhouse in 2006! Greg is an avid golfer, our son loves to snowboard and our daughter & myself just love to relax! It's our home away from home just 3 hours away that can't be beat for a long weekend escape!
Gina McLean purchased this townhome in 2006
Our home is located right in Invermere on a quiet residential street! Many of the neighbours are permanent residents of 'Invy' which we love! It's a short walk to Sobeys, the drug store and 7th Avenue which is 'main' street! If you bring just one vehicle there's absolutely no worries to get around walking everywhere! It's perfect! : )
We looked at a few townhouses in town and then saw what is now 'McLean's Chil'laxin Shack'! I fell in love with the big front porch which is perfect for afternoon sun! We look at the Purcell Mtns. from there and the Rockies from the back deck!
The street is quiet, the view is awesome, we can walk everywhere, there's way too many things to do if you want to and we just absolutely love hanging out in our beautiful home! It's fantastic!
This town house in Invermere is situated very near to downtown. It is spacious, well-designed, clean and modern. The kitchen is wonderful, especially for those who love to cook. It has plenty of countertop space with all of the necessary kitchen amenities. Bedrooms are spacious and two or three families could easily find the living arrangements comfortable. Plenty of shower and bath space (three in total). Excellent parking out front. The owners are fantastic to deal with, being speeding, precise and friendly with communications and money transactions. A marvelous home away for home for anyone exploring the Rockies in beautiful British Columbia.
The place was perfect. Everything we needed for a group of 6. Perfect location and the neighbourhood was quiet. Loved our time in Invermere!!
We met my sister in law and her family there for the week and it was great. The owner was awesome to deal with! We had 4 kids and 4 adults and everyone was very comfortable during our stay. The teenagers hung out in the basement playing pool while the adults hung out playing cards in the kitchen. Centrally located, we walked everywhere. There is a nice newer park down the road perfect for all ages of kids. Check out the local butcher for some good sausages to grill on the BBQ.
We went to both Radium and Fairmont Hot springs as well as Panorama resort. Definetly recommend the Radium hot springs over the Fairmont ones. Pandora was fun for all ages. Mini golf over looking the river is fun too.
We will definetly be back for another family vacation.
Great spot. Great hosts. All the things you need to make it a great get away!
My family came to visit from Costa Rica, and we were looking for a nice place that would accommodate 8 of us over New Year holidays and somewhere close to the mountains... where they could see snow! This house is very welcoming. It's beautifully decorated and it was nice and clean when we got there. It's very close to all the shops in the little town and nice and close to snowshoeing trails, Panorama ski hill, and hotsprings. They layout of the bedrooms is perfect for families with kids!
The only thing that we found, considering we were so many people, is we had to have quick and well timed showers in order for everyone to get hot water. No big deal.
Overall, we had a great experience and would highly reccommend this house!
We had a very enjoyable weekend at MCLeans chillax shack. Everything in the property exceeded our ever expectation and the neighbors were very nice people. I would recommend this property for anyone wanting to visit Invermere for any amount of time. Thank you again for making our expierence memorable.
Finding enough time to pack in all the adventures offered around Invermere is a challenge in itself.
Take in a round of golf, or shopping, followed by a relaxing dip in the hot springs. Or saddle up for a horseback ride, hike in the parks, tackle the whitewater on a rafting trip and fish in the Windermere Valley's well-stocked lakes.
Come winter, skiers, heli skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoers take to the slopes.
Play golf at any one of a long list of 18-hole and 9-hole courses in the Windermere Valley, and forget about keeping your head down – there is great scenery to see.
From fine art at the Artym or Effusion galleries to scrumptious treats at Gerry's Gelati, the economic hub of the Windermere Valley has some great shopping. Be sure to include a side trip to Bavin Glassworks, just off Highway 93/95, where you can watch a glassblower at work, and make a few little glass trinkets yourself.
Visit the farmers market downtown on Saturday mornings, from June through September.
Go horseback riding with one of the operators at Panorama Mountain Village Resort, Fairmont Hot Springs or in the Radium Hot Springs area. Other experienced outfitters offer multi-day expeditions into the Purcell Mountain Range.
Take to the water with an exciting river rafting trip on the Kootenay River, Columbia River or Toby Creek. For a less adrenaline-pumping, but completely fascinating experience, take a tour of the Columbia River Wetlands with a naturalist as your guide. The wildlife is diverse and abundant.
Rent a kayak or canoe and spend a few hours paddling on Windermere Lake, or exploring the river between Invermere and Radium Hot Springs. Powerboats are also rentable on the lake from Pete's Marina.
A number of lakes in the area are regularly stocked with fry from a nearby hatchery. Try your hand at fishing on Whiteswan, Alces, Whitetail or Windermere Lakes.
Any time of year is a great time to visit one of the hot springs in and around the valley.
The extremely warm Windermere Lake or somewhat cooler Columbia Lake boast some of the best beaches and swimming in the Kootenay Rockies, but it doesn't stop there. There's also windsurfing, powerboating, kayaking and canoeing.
Take a flight-seeing tour over the Rockies and the Purcells with Babin Air, based at Invermere's small airport, or take to the air with Canadian Mountain Holidays or RK Heliski for a spectacular heli hiking experience.
Explore the mountains around Panorama on an ATV tour with Toby Creek Adventures Ltd, which offers a range of programs from 90 minute quickies to overnight camping trips.
Head out of town to explore the mountain parks. Go hiking or sightseeing in Kootenay National Park, and the equally spectacular Provincial Parks that surround the valley. Great local hikes include Jumbo Pass, Mount Swansea and Earl Grey Pass.
In winter, go skiing or snowboarding at Panorama Mountain Resort or Fairmont Hot Springs. Panorama also offers heli skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and real Canadian dogsledding.
Go cross-country skiing at Panorama, Fairmont or at the Nipika Mountain Resort, located in the Rocky Mountains, 30 minutes east of Radium Hot Springs.
