About owner/property manager
This is a family owned over 100 years. We are academics, business owners, and retired persons with a strong love of Maine and Mount Desert Island. The seventh generation will be visiting this summer. We are outdoors oriented who have hiked most of the trails on the island, and continue to enjoy the outdoor activities here.
Why owner/property manager chose Bar Harbor
As you see above, the cottage has been in the family for generations. Until recently many of us lived here, or spent all summer in the area. We rent it only to make the continuation of ownership possible.
What makes this Cottage unique
Most of us fall in love with the view over and over, and the privacy is a bonus as well. The few neighbors are absent much of the time, but there is one year round resident. This is a quiet, cosy retreat where it is possible to unwind and forget your work and other responsibilities, but it's easy to stay in touch with phone or Wi-Fi. Courtship, engagements, baptisms, and even family weddings have taken place here or in the local churches.

An Absolutely Wonderful Experience
For the first time in my life, I hesitate to write a review because I want to keep this secret to myself. That would be unfair to these wonderful property owners who choose to share this amazing, truly experience. The views and sunsets, opportunity to interact with the water and the forest, bird watching, seal and dolphin viewing, and solitude are amazing. This is a modernized throwback to a seaside summer cottage/lake cabin experience of years gone by, so if you are looking for the 8-bedroom vacation house with gourmet kitchen, it might not be for you. It was plenty large enough for our family of four (with a tween and a teenager) and had everything we could ask for and more. We enjoyed more solitude and a better back-to-nature experience than any campground in the area could have provided. The cottage is also remarkably convenient to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and all of Mount Desert Island. If you are a nature-lover and/or enjoy natural solitude, this property is the way to experience this amazing area of Maine.
Vacation on the Ocean
We enjoyed our week on the water on Mt. Desert island! We were here for a week in 2017 and the place is the same. Beautiful area and location can't be beat! A few issues with work on the repair work on the road to access the Cottage. Penny kept us updated as she got information and even offered to extend our trip by a day because of the roadwork! Unfortunately we had to get back to work and couldn't stay.
Beautiful little cabin!
Spent a week here, loved it! We spent over an hour every day on the large rocky beach looking for sea glass and watching the seals off shore. Cabin is small, but homey, reminded us all of our property we spend our summers at in Ohio. Everything we needed was here or told we needed to bring. We were close to everything, but far enough away to feel in another world. Lots of info to read and things to look at inside when it's raining. Beds are very comfortable. There's a TV which has local channels, which is fine because you shouldn't be watching TV on vacation! Plenty of board games to play. Only couple downfalls were the mosquitoes, which are all over the island, (so bring extra bugspray!), the shower was a little small and some wet dirty clothes were left in it, and ants in the kitchen. But we just made sure all food was sealed and it was fine. Definitely recommend this cabin, especially after going past others we looked at, the privacy and view can't be beat!
Enjoyed our stay at a little piece of heaven!
This cottage is not fancy but it is quite comfortable and the location is wonderful.. It was exactly what we were looking for. Our party consisted of myself, my daughter, son in law and two year old granddaughter. The cottage might be a little tight if your party has more than four adults. The shower was a little small for my 6 ft plus tall son in law but it worked well enough. The view, deck, kitchen nicely stocked with plates, cups, cutlery, pots and pans, toaster, coffee maker and tea kettle were really nice. We also used the grill for dinner several times and ate out on the deck so we could watch the seals and the tidal action. It was very peaceful and quiet (one morning we saw a hummingbird, but we heard the low motor like hum of its wings before we saw it!) and was magical when the sky was clear and the stars were out. There is very easy access down to the beach at low tide and my granddaughter loved investigating the tidal pools and the shells. The location is on the "quiet side" of the island and we enjoyed returning there after a day in the Park or in Bar Harbor. It is easy to get to both the Park and Bar Harbor as well as to Southwest Harbor. The Nature Conservancy Preserve trails are also close by (just a short walk away). There is ample seating inside and we enjoyed sitting at the dining table in the mornings for breakfast and watching the seals and birds out on the water. The owner left information on the area as well. We had brought our own, but looked through it to see if there was more up to date information and found some that was useful. if we hadn't brought anything it would have been very helpful. Also a bird guide and binoculars are left for visitors to use. If you are planning to get into the water, you will want to bring your own beach towel.
Glamping at its finest
Authentic small and rustic Maine cabin with extraordinary views of water and water life. If you are looking to unwind this is your place . Penny, our host, took care of our needs including when we ran into a minor problem of the propane running out. It was fixed immediately and she then went out of her way to make it right by treating us to dinner. We would definitely go back !
Great for outdoors person.
Great location for kayaking. Deck was private with views of the bay and all the islands (many at low tide) with eagles osprey many seals and waterfowl.
Within a few miles of Acadia National Park with an information center and all of its associated beauties and opportunities for outdoor activities.
