Our family has been coming to Kauai for the past 18 years. In 2011, we decided that Kauai was our special place on earth that we always wanted in our lives. This started a search for a home away from home. One that we wanted to stay in, some place so nice we would rather stay there than a hotel, a place we could all be 'ohana' family and have plenty of room for friends. Our house on Emmalani means that to us and we hope it will mean that to you and your family too. With Aloha Spirit, Linda and Ben
Ben & Linda Bunn purchased this house in 2012
This house has a special feeling-- very open and relaxing- a place you can really disconnect. It is also on a big lot with privacy loaded with fruit trees and tropical plants. Probably love the singing birds in the morning as much as anything. If you like the feeling of the soft warm air as you wake up then you will love this house as much as we do!
There were five of us on this trip. Ben & Linda's house was perfect for our two families.
Ben is quick to respond to inquiries and his local property management team is great, helpful and responsive.
The four bedrooms/three bathrooms were more than ample for our group, since this house can sleep 9! The luxurious shower upstairs was amazing and the beds comfortable.
The kitchen/dining area is spacious and has a gas cook-top to boot! We typically would cook breakfast and dinner at the house, and enjoyed eating at the dining table or out on the large covered lanai, listening to birds, breezes and enjoying the view of the mountains and lush tropical vegetation. The grill on the lanai could get to high heat quickly, which was great for grilling steaks, chicken and veggies. The kitchen had salt and a little olive oil, so pick up some spices, oil, etc. The kitchen is well stocked with plates, glassware, tumblers, flatware, mixing/salad bowls, pots/pans, kitchen knives, cutting boards, decorative bowls/trays, etc. There was plastic wrap and ziplock bags too. The ice-maker works well and kept us stocked up for iced tea, etc. The fridge is large, as is the pantry next to it. We stopped at Costco on the way to the property to pick up meat, veg, eggs, snacks, drinks, etc. and there was ample room for storing everything.
The property has multiple fruit trees, many of which were ripe! There is nothing like fresh starfruit, orange, and avocado. There were a few chickens (many different colors) wandering around the property that were fun to watch. Occasionally, even a rooster would stop by.
The house is close to the Princeville shopping center, and only a 15 minute walk, which takes you past many other lovely yards/gardens. There is a Foodland in the complex that makes excellent ahi poke (many kinds). We picked up some every few days. In the nearby Community Center, they hold arts/crafts festivals, which were fun to visit and see handmade items. Hanalei is only a 5-10 minute drive and has lots of shops and excellent restaurants, plus beautiful beaches, where you can go for long walks, play in the water, or sit and contemplate your navel :-) Kilauea Lighthouse was a 5-10 minute drive and we were able to drive down to the lighthouse parking lot. We saw myriad birds and even a few whale breaches! We drove over to old Koloa town, Hanapepe and Waimea Canyon and the lookout points/hike. Beautiful!
We highly recommend this property.
This house is in a great quiet, family neighbourhood in Princeville. It is short walk to a small shopping area with supermarket and a few restaurants. The house is nicely appointed and has a fairly large private yard with orange, star fruit and avocado trees. Like most places in Hawaii, wild chickens roam free here - free entertainment.
Our group was a party of four adults, but there are sufficient beds for 9, if there is a mix of children and adults.
The house is well equipped with ceiling fans. At the time of year we were there, we didn't use any a/c. In the garage, there was a great selection of fins, snorkels, masks, water shoes (useful in the area), noodles and boogie boards. One shortcoming of the kitchen is that the only condiments were salt and pepper, so if you are planning to cook there, you have to stock up on them. A car is highly recommended since it is a good drive from the airport (approx 45-60 min) and most attractions require a drive to get to them.
One can walk to the Queen's Bath and in the opposite direction Wiley's beach behind the Westin Resort. Be aware both walks involve steep paths to the water's edge. Wiley's beach and Anini beach beside it are well protected from the winter surf by a reef and there is good snorkelling there, as well as the water being safe for children. The Queen's Bath is a summer activity. The surf was pounding it when we went to see it in January and you couldn't safely get near it.
We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again if in the area.
Anyone who stays here will ABSOLUTELY love it!!!!!! I had a group of 8 adults since I am an outdoor adventure guide. This location is amazing and the house is so beautiful and accommodating! I will for sure bring several groups back here to Hawaii and hope to stay in this home every time I come!!! It's the BEST! You will not be sorry.
The Bunn house was a great place for us to spend the holidays this year. We have stayed in Princeville before and love the quiet, laid back atmosphere of the northern part of the island. Our family of 5 adults had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy all the property had to offer. The lanai was particularly nice for morning coffee, listening to the birds (and occasional rooster), and taking in the mountain views and lush garden. The keurig came in handy for the late afternoon pick me up coffee or evening tea while winding down. The two master baths both had beautiful showers and the ceiling fans came in handy, especially on the ground floor. All the ground floor bedrooms had sliding doors allowing plenty of ventilation. The grounds really were lovely and had a lot of fruit trees. We enjoyed fresh squeezed orange juice, starfruit, and massive avocados. The chickens got to the bananas before we saw that they were ripe! The house has 4 bikes which we used once to get to Hideaways quicker. There is plenty of snorkel gear which we did not use because we brought our own, but clearly did not need to. This house is pretty close to the shopping center so evening walks to get Lappert's ice cream was a must. The property manager was very helpful and answered our questions quickly.
It was fairly rainy this year, unlike our last stay, so we did several tours, hiked and walked around the many small towns. Highly recommend the Garden Island chocolate tour but eat before you go because you will come out in a chocolate coma! The Allerton Garden was beautiful and Jurassic Park fans should visit. The two outdoor hoses and garage entry came in very handy after muddy hikes. Of course all the beaches in Princeville are great and the close proximity to Hanalei and Tunnels beach were also a plus.
We enjoyed our relaxing vacation and recommend this house to anyone looking for a Kauai rental! Thanks Ben for opening up your home!
I can't give this house enough stars!!!! We had 2 families staying here equally a total of 9 people in this home and everyone had their own space of needed. We were a bit Leary about the renal after our experience with another rental on another island but man oh man were we wrong!!! Ben and Linda have gone way above expected with their home. You can tell from the moment you walk in that they want you to feel right at home and that we did. The only thing that we needed with this home was our clothes and food. The outside shower was a HUGE hit with the kids and I don't think they showered indoors at all throughout the week. In fact they all volunteered to go first. The master shower upstairs was absolutely wonderful. We had up to 14 people nightly here for dinners and we had plenty of room for everyone. The beach toys and bikes were a hit. They have a plethora of snorkel gear and anything else you need for the beach. Having the washer and dryer in the garage was a blessing as well. When we got home from the beach our towels went straight into the wash. If you want a home to rent that exceeds your expectations then you will not be disappointed with this rental. Don( the property manager) was very nice and let us even check in a bit before time. We were able to look around and see what we needed from the store. All in all we could not ah e asked for a better home rental. And the location was perfect. Close to Queens bath and right down the road from our newest favortie princeville ranch resort. I could go on and on but that would bore you. Thank you Ben and Linda for opening your beautiful home to us.
This home was great. Everything we could have needed was provided (kitchen items, extra bedding, beach items, coolers, etc.) and the home is very comfortable. The location is great for visiting local beaches and attractions, but we also loved just hanging out on the deck. The yard is beautiful, and our kids enjoyed playing among the tropical trees. Of course, the outdoor shower was a hit with everyone! I would recommend this home for families or bigger groups, as it easily accommodated nine of us.
