About Gary Bacon

Gary built one of the most successful corporate housing companies on the East Coast which was sold to Equity Residential in 2001. He retired a year later and began the first of many expeditions to six continents. Ying was a national tour director in China where the two met in 2002. Gary and Ying were married in 2008 and settled in Fairfield, California where they operate summer camps for Chinese youth through the American Chinese Cultural Exchange Service.

Gary Bacon purchased this estate in 2016

Why Gary Bacon chose The Bay Area

The inn was built in 2004 as the principal residence at Monroe Ranch which had been in the owner's family since 1860. A lifelong devotee of George Washington, the residence resembles Mt. Vernon, Washington's estate in Virginia. The home had been used for weekend retreats by the family whose principal residence was south of San Francisco. With eight bedrooms and seven baths, the home was easily convertible into an inn.

What makes this estate unique

The property has a unique history including the fact that it was once the site of 'Big Camp' a 1000-strong Chinese settlement along the banks of Suisun Creek where railroad-weary workers lived and farmed the land for area ranchers. The property is surrounded by vineyards and farmland. Fifty-eight magnolia trees and a single remaining 100-year old pear tree line the quarter-mile entryway to the inn. Over forty variety of birds enjoy fruit from our trees during the day and at night scores of constellations are easily identified.

Reunion weekend

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful house! 5 couples gathered for a long weekend reunion and this house was the perfect setting. Great location ,very comfortable and spacious. Gary and his wife were very helpful and go out of there way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We also used chef Emily to prepare a few meals and she was fantastic as well. Looking forward to our next return! Mary

Great Property for our Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

This property was a great location and size for our family gathering. Midway between Sac and San Fran while being very close to many wineries and 30 minutes from Napa.

The House was in great condition and well equipped. If we needed anything the owner, Gary was available to assist us. He recommended a local chef who cooked for us two evenings which was awesome.

I would highly recommend this property if you are looking to rent in this area.

Great for family reunions!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 12 ( ages 5 - 79) had a wonderful Time here. The house is spacious yet cozy. The rooms are all very comfortable , with everyone having their own space and bathroom access. The fully stacked kitchen and having two dishwashers made cooking and cleaning fun and easy. We were rained in the whole time and didnt get a chance to enjoy the yard or the area and still had a great time. Highly recommended!

High Praise. Tops!

  • 5 of 5

High praise for this home. Beautifully appointed. Impeccably maintained. The front entrance opens into a generous high-ceilinged common area with a gracefully curved staircase and panoramic wall-to-wall floor-to-ceiling views out across the patio and lawn. The vast common area encompasses an immense great room (which was beautifully decorated just for the Holidays), a spacious full-width dining area with a large handsome table that seated our party of 11 comfortably, and a professionally designed kitchen that in many respects is a double one, with two spacious sinks and two dishwashers. All bedrooms are well furnished and decorated (with no substandard ones).

Spacious grounds amidst working vineyards. Excellent trampoline and hot tub. Everything is well-maintained and in good working order. Attractions abound in the immediate area. Our children and young grandsons twice visited the Scandia Family Fun Center and came back enthusiastically recounting their adventures. Several wineries, a Budweiser tour and tasting room, Great Adventure, a trampoline sports arena, and other attractions are all nearby. Perhaps best of all, the owners respond promptly to every inquiry and are extraordinarily accommodating and considerate. Tops.

Great place to relax with friends or family, perfect for up to 5 couples.

  • 5 of 5

Gary was a great host, we enjoyed our stay with; lot's of space to relax, comfortable beds, terrific kitchen, nearby vineyards, the home was all as described and very cool with a bed and breakfast feel (we rented the whole home). Great location near Napa and the Napa Valley activities, but secluded and peaceful.

WOW and Then More!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this absolutely beautiful home from Gary, the owner, and lucky enough to have his sister Laurie to be our care taker during our stay. Laurie's attention to our satisfaction was superb and went beyond her call. We were totally fortunate to host a spiritual retreat in this absolutely stunning property literally hated to leave. Everything that is advertised about the home and the views are spot on! Plenty of space to accommodate large groups. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are divine, and the decor is serene ! We can't wait to return, and can't thank Laurine enough for her graciousness!!!
