About Jim Woodward
(Picture to the left is a Spring motorcycle ride on Skyline Road) My wife, Mary, and I enjoy outdoor activities, meeting people, and sharing our place. We love the Flint Hills and Lake Wabaunsee. I built my first cabin near Boulder Co. which influenced the design of this cabin (I both designed and built this cabin as well) giving it a notable Colorado-style. We have the cabin to help us create good memories. We hope you will come visit and create some good memories of your own.
Jim Woodward purchased this Cabin in 1987
Why Jim Woodward chose Alma
The Lake is 30 minutes from our home. I first went to the lake on a fishing trip with my dad when I was 10. I had a great time and caught my fill of sunfish. It continues to be a good place to create great memories. There is something enchanting about the lake. It renews us both mentally and physically when we spend time here; it is the perfect break from the stress of everyday life.
What makes this Cabin unique
Relaxation and subtle beauty. Lake Wabaunsee is a great place to be mindful and enjoy your family and friends. Going to Lake Wabaunsee feels like going back in time; back to the simpler times of the past.

Fun Family Time at Lake Wabaunsee
We had a lovely time at the cabin on Lake Wabaunsee. The house was furnished with most of what we needed, and had enough space us. The water off the dock was a bit deep for our less experienced swimmers (6 feet maybe?), so we went across the way to the beach most days. The kayaks are single-person only; if we come again we may bring a bigger one so that you could have 2 to a kayak and explore more easily. Note that you can drive all the way down to the cabin - when we first arrived, it was 10 pm and I parked up off the road, and I grumbled while carrying all of our groceries and bags down 2 flights of stairs in the dark. Also, it was a bit of a pain to make the beds at 11 pm, but after these initial hiccups, all was fine.
We enjoyed the lake and evening walks. We cooked most nights, but we did venture over to Wild Olives for dinner one evening. A lovely vacation!
Loved your review frustrations and all. You can drive right to the door, as you figured out. Welcome back anytime! Jim
Always a good time
We have traveled with Jim every summer for the last few years and always have enjoyed a good time.
Needed to rent on short notice after State Lake cabin reservation was cancelled due to flooding. Worked out better than the original plan!
Glad that it worked out better for you! Come back
Great cabin on an adorable hidden gem of a lake. JIM was great to work with and we will definitely be back!
Property is well equipped, clean, and great location. Jim is very easy to work with.
Great to have you hope your hunting went well.
We love visiting the Woodward cabins every year. It is beautiful, peaceful and always goes very nicely!
That is a great photo of you and your son and the 2 lb crappie.
-The lake and the Flint Hills offer many great motocycle rides. During the warm months of the year, many travel by motorcycle.
-One of our favorite things to do is explore some of the rarely traveled Flint Hills gravel (and dirt) roads on an off-road motorcycle. The lake is a great place to take a stroll. A popular mode local transportation is the golf cart.
-There is an old Santa Fe Trail restaurant in Council Grove that serves family style dinners that is worth the trip. The drive is great.
-Paxico in near by and it is known for a blues festival and many antique shop.
-Alma is quaint and also has antique shops.
-Sky Line Drive is a nice gravel road drive that offers a good view of the flint hills.
-The Tall Grass National Prarie Park is a great place to see and hike. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (US National Park Service)
