Guests are sure to enjoy a peaceful retreat at this large contemporary home. The waterfront is located just a short distance down a path and over the footbridge to Calf Island. The property owner provides a canoe and a kayak for use on the lake. The waterfront area also has a separate swimming dock and plenty of shaded area for picnicing and relaxing. The house is very well equipped for a fun family vacation with HDTV, Wifi, pool table, pingpong table, screened porch and sunny deck plus there's plenty of space for everyone. Five bedrooms and 3 bathrooms make this house a great choice for larger vacation groups. (king, queen, 2 twins, 1 bunk bed, 1 youth bed, king futon.
I live in Rye, NH and grew up in Darien, CT. I went to Temple University and currently work as a Senior Director at Oppenheimer.
Chris Nee purchased this house in 2000
When i grew up in Ct. my family vacationed in the Bristol/Damariscotta/New Harbor area. My parents retired in Damariscotta (5 miles from my lake house). This area is the best of both worlds....lake front and 5 minutes from the ocean. The fishing on the lake is incredible. You will catch bass, pickerel and trout all day long. You can take a ride down the road to New Harbor and see the incredible coastline. You can hop on a ferry and take a day trip to Monheghan Island (My favorite place in the whole world). You can drive 8 minutes into Damariscotta and eat at some of my favorite restaurants in the US. Or you can just relax and listen to the loons or watch the bald eagles fish.
In front of my house is a private island that has 2 docks. You can use my canoe or kayak. You can paddle on the lake or on either side is a stream. One stream goes all the way to the ocean.
My extended family stayed here for a week in June and we had the pond to ourselves (it's a big pond by the way). Total privacy and plenty of space inside the house and outdoors for all of us (6 adults, 3 kids). There is something for everyone--fishing (poles and gear provided), kayaking and canoeing (also provided), a dock to hang out on, screened in porch, nice washer and dryer, a cabinet full of board games, a basement with ping pong and pool table, fast internet, and a kitchen full of everything needed to cook for this crew. Also, two huge tvs (tho we actually never even turned them on because there was so much else to do). I hope we can stay here again. I recommend staying here if you want to be away from it all and also if you have a large group with a variety of ages.
We spent a short 4 days and enjoyed every second of our time in this comfy, yet large, home. We fished, shopped, went on walks along trails on the property and the local area. Took a day trip over to Monhegan Island - it was GLORIOUS! I finally heard the loons on my last night there. Another item off my bucket list. We ate at King Eiders Pub one night and I had their fantastic Seafood Pot Pie. Wish we'd had more time to spend in the area. Maybe someday we will return, I'd like to think so. Thank you for opening up your home so that others can enjoy the incredible beauty of the Bristol area.
We have just returned from our week of vacation, and would like to recommend both the house and the location. In the past we have rented houses that were less to our liking or needs than the pictures conveyed. We were delighted with this house in every way. Our children and grandchildren came, but with six adults and four little ones we still had plenty of space. The three bathrooms and five bedrooms were so helpful. The fifth bedroom on the downstairs level was set up as a playroom, and the children played happily with toys that were new to them. The kitchen, dining and living room were open and very inviting, and the table was big enough for all of us. The setting is very private, and the path over the bridge to the little island is beautiful. Even on rainy days, the lake was lovely. The houses on the lake are secluded, making the shore line appear untouched except for an occasional dock projecting into the water. We enjoyed the canoe and kayak, and explored the lake and inlets. On sunny days, we visited Pemiquid Beach and Shaw's, which were quite close by. I could mention more, I am sure, but we do hope to return in the future.
Everything we needed, and expected, for a great week with our family in Maine. A spacious vacation home on a secluded lake. Great fishing on a small private lake (pond) where no large boats/motors are allowed. Many options for recreation for all ages at the home, including games, toys, canoe and kayak, swimming (still a little cool), large TV with cable (we didn't use it much because of all the other options), wifi, pool and ping pong tables, and many others. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for extended family or a couple of families. Many attractions in the area, yet not crowded at this time of year (June) -- not like Boothbay Harbor which was wall-to-wall people, even early in the summer season. Not too far away for visits to places like Boothbay Harbor or Rockland. We are definitely planning another visit next year.
We had one of our best family vacations ever here (in October 2012)! Not only was the house big, comfortable, well used, and well cared for, but also its location just off of a large pond in the woods was exactly what we were looking (and hoping) for. We went fishing, canoeing, hiking, played lots and lots of games inside and outside on the lawn, and really enjoyed soaking up the beauty of mid-coast Maine.
We loved the fact that this is someone’s actual vacation house and not just a “rental property". It was very homey in that it had lots of kitchen gear, great beds and linens, loads of young children’s toys and books, adult board games and books, and a basement with pool and ping pong tables. There were also life jackets of varying sizes and fishing gear - for those who like to spend time by the water.
The photos - particularly of the surroundings - do not do this property justice! The house lies in an absolutely beautiful spot.
We hope to make it back there again! A big thank you to the owners for opening up this very special place for others to enjoy as well!
Our group of 5 adults thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Secluded, private property with gorgeous views from every window. We were lucky enough to wake up to sun and beautiful fall leaves every morning of our stay, even when the forecast called for rain. We were in the area for the annual Damariscotta Pumpkin Festival. This house was a short drive away from town, and also close to friends who were staying further south on the peninsula. Enjoyed fresh lobster from Shaw's in New Harbor, also just a short drive down the peninsula. Plenty of space for 5 adults to have private sleeping rooms, and having the extra bath downstairs was helpful. Found house in immaculate condition. We hope to return next year!
