|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Waterfront beach house with more than 100 feet of beach on the Long Island Sound in the private gated community of Scott’s Beach – a vacation by the sea. The height of the home above the water provides gorgeous expansive views of the Sound and there are adjacent stairs leading to the beach below. For those preferring only a few stairs, there is access to the beach with available parking at the western end of Scott’s Beach, a short walk from the home. Privacy abounds as the home is at the end of a dead-end street abutting a ten-acre vacant parcel of wooded land.
Built in 1997, the approximately 3500 square foot home has four bedrooms on the upper floor along with a large master bathroom and a family bathroom. The master bedroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has a queen bed plus a queen-size hide a bed and the third bedroom has two twin beds. The fourth bedroom has a twin bed and also houses a home office for those requiring space to work while on vacation and a library for those interested in reading a good book. The home sleeps seven in beds and up to eleven if the hide a beds are used.
The main floor is comprised of a spacious ocean room/great room with a wall of windows facing out to the Sound, giving the sense of being on a ship. A deck accessed from the ocean room and kitchen spans the entire back and one side of the home for outdoor relaxation above the beach. The main floor also has a den with a queen-size hide a bed, dining room, powder room, kitchen and dinette.
For those interested in strictly indulging in the amenities of the home and Scott’s Beach, there is walking the private wooded streets, enjoying the beach at the home or at the beach at the west-end of Scott’s Beach, relaxation on the deck with a delicious drink and a good book or indoor enjoyment of television, board games, puzzles, the internet, conversation or a much-needed nap. Peace and quiet abound. In pleasant weather, listen through the bedroom windows to the ripples of the water lapping onto the shore.
I live in two states - Michigan and New York. I love spending time on the beach, frequently walking, watching the sunsets and listening to the water lap up on the shore. I have two children, both grown and living in New York City. I live with my little dog, Oreo, and we have fun playing together. I am an attorney and a writer and find the vistas of the Sound from the house inspiring!
Elissa Schwartz purchased this house in 2004
The view, it is all about the view! Top that off with approximately 3500 square feet of beautiful space and a gorgeous beach and the property simply cannot be beat!
The view, the privacy, the sound of the water lapping up on the shore heard through the windows and the sense of being on a ship when in the ocean room make this home unique and inviting.
This is a very special place. The setting is very private and all you see from the house is the sound. Thanks to the owner, Elissa, we arranged this from Arizona and it all came off without a hitch. We were 10 people and the house was very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and all the necessary tools. The house is pristine and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I can't say enough about how accommodating Elissa was at every step. If we ever want to have another family gathering on Long Island we would definitely want to stay here again.
Impossibly, Joe was gone. Dad's best friend, everyone's favorite... gone. He'd specified that all of us should gather in his childhood town, Shoreham, to celebrate. Impossibly, all of us cleared our schedules: mom, dad, and their three adult children without any spouses or kids in tow. I wanted us to be TOGETHER-- from coffee in the morning, until the wee- hour, wine-fueled chats about Joe, and everything else. Hard to do that at the Holiday Inn.
Logged onto VRBO and found Elissa's gorgeous home. If the pictures from the porch weren't enough, the reviews from prior tenants proved that this was the place for our reunion. Elissa promptly and adorably answered my request and all questions, sometimes within minutes. And then we kept trading messages because Elissa is wonderful and one of those immediate friend kind of people.
We spent three lovely nights in that house. I woke up every morning to stunning sunrises just beyond the bedcovers. Dad and I hiked down the (steep!) stairs to dip toes in the ocean, but passed on scaling the pool ladder necessary for dropping down the final 6 feet to actual surf. My sister and I took a 4 mile walk around the neighborhood passing friendly people with dogs and pretty gardens. We made three meals in the newly renovated kitchen. Mom didn't need to pack all of those paper products and Pyrex. Elissa has everything.
Elissa's detailed instructions, house-book with more information, and well-appointed home softened an emotional weekend for us. We didn't want to leave. It was worth every penny. xoxo
We rented this house for 4 days for our wedding weekend. It was great to have a lovely and very spacious place to stay with my in-laws and my husband's out-of-town family. Elissa was a fabulous and very friendly host. She included detailed information that made checking in and out of the house seamless. Access to a nice beach is just down some stairs near the house. The views of the sound are absolutely gorgeous as viewed from the large front deck and from the decks connected to upstairs bedrooms. The house and neighborhood were quiet during our stay. It was so nice to have a place to get ready before the wedding with my family there; utilizing the large master bedroom and bathroom and the spacious dining area for hair and makeup. There is also a deli down the road that serves up the most delicious Long Island style sandwiches; we made several trips :). All in all it was a great place to stay for our wedding weekend.
This is a fantastic property, and Elissa is a great host. Rented the house for three nights to host several family members in town for my mother's 90th birthday. We had up to 9 people sleeping in the house, and a larger group over for dinner one evening. The house itself was great, and the location (including the views from inside the house) was stunning. Most highly recommended!
Myself and 10 of my good friends had booked this home for an afternoon/evening of catching up and sharing hopes and dreams. To say the home met our expectations would be a gross underestimate. This is truly the lovliest vacation home I have ever rented or been inside of. I say "Home" not "House" as it was apparent from the moment you walked in the front door that the owner takes great pride in creating a place of both comfort and beauty. From the the stunning wall of windows along the back where you gaze out over the sound, to the open, spacious and tastefully decorated living room and dining room, everything was perfect! I and my daughter arrived first and took great pleasure in watching the faces of the others as they opened the front door and looked around....with "Wow!" In every room, from the big soft cushion couches in the den/TV room to the assortment of couches, chairs and loungers in the living room and the many seating choices in the kitchen/dining room everwhere was bright, sunny and comfortable. The bedrooms were well decorated with very comfortable beds, great light pouring in from windows and nice little touches like extra cushions and lovely paintings. The kitchen was bright and sunny, with everything you could need to both cook and serve a bountiful dinner for 11 people. A wide, wrap around deck and several entrances to it added to the ease of watching the sea.
Direct access to the beach down some steep but sturdy wooden stairs gave us a chance to launch our rice paper wish boats into the sea and search for beach glass and shells on Sunday morning. Saturday was the tail end of Hurricain Joaquin but despite the wild winds we remained safe and warm while we watched the stormwinds whip the trees. (No drafts through the windows or doors and remarkable quiet in the home despite the winds)
Not only is this house extraodinary.....so was Elissa the owner. After emailing back and forth (And my getting my paperwork mixed up!) writing to Elissa was like communicating with an old friend. She was delightful, helpful, flexible and generous with her check-in/check-out times. Easiest owner I have ever dealt with.
If you want the perfect place for a group of up to 11, in a beautiful, comfortable home overlooking the Sound with the nicest owner around you just found it :-)
We rented Elissa's house for a surprise birthday weekend for my older sister; she was an absolute gem to work with and the house is absolutely gorgeous. So many comfy spots to sleep, sit, relax, and stare at ridiculously beautiful views of long island sound. Staircase access (it is a long flight of stairs!) to a virtually empty beach on the sound was perfect for our big group, and everything was so convenient; towels, sheets, dishes, etc are all there. Perfect perfect perfect; we all wanted to stay forever!
For those interested in exploring beyond Scott’s Beach, within a thirty-minute drive is the beginning of the wineries of the North Fork offering wine tasting and vineyards for viewing, the large Smithhaven Mall, a mega-movie theater, the nationally acclaimed Splish Splash water park in Riverhead, the Tanger outlet mall and Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, many shops, large stores and restaurants. Within a fifteen- minute drive or less are a multitude of shops, a movie theater, restaurants, grocery stores, ice cream parlors and the famed town of Port Jefferson. The South Fork opening to the Hamptons is approximately forty minutes from the home and Manhattan is approximately a one and one quarter hour drive. Port Jefferson has a ferry to Connecticut and a LIRR train station for westward destinations. The Macarthur airport is approximately thirty minutes from the home. The property’s caretaker lives in the lower level of the home accessed by its own separate entrance.
