The Seastar Retreat is seaside living at its best. From the moment you step into the main room overlooking the sea, you enter an expansive world with a view to the horizon. The hummingbirds play hide and seek in the trees while the waves crash against the rocky cove below. The sea breeze blows calmly in the morning while you contemplate your day's adventure. Perhaps you'll take a morning stroll on the beach, or investigate the tide pools for starfish, or carve mussels off the rocks -- a glimmer catches your eye as you watch a whale go by...
Inside the Sea star are all the amenities of home... well, that is if you have an ocean view at home! And you can enjoy the view from the living room, the sun room, the bedroom, the kitchen or the seaside decks. It's easy to spend the day exploring the beaches, flying a kite, seeking out tide pools or just relaxing and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.
*Note: The Seastar Retreat is the upstairs 'apartment' of a home with a separate entrance.
When my kids and I walked in the floor to ceiling view of the sun setting beyond Harris beach from every room was amazing. This was a true home away from home from the well appointed kitchen - even spare oil and salt and pepper and coffee and tea - to the coloring books to the stacks of dvds and games. We ran down the private stairs to the beach and rode on the bike path around the corner and hiked so many gorgeous hikes near by. My kids begged to stay another night- so we did! I've told all my friends and now you. So I hope there's a spot open for our next trip.
My husband and I chose Seastar for our first visit to Oregon, and couldn't have been more pleased. As the other reviewers have said, the views are just stunning! I think I gasped when we walked up the stairs and into the house the first time - floor to ceiling windows with sweeping views of the Pacific.
I loved the attention to detail! Fresh flowers from the owner's garden on the property were even in 2 of the rooms. Fully equipped kitchen if you plan to cook. (We did not. ) There was coffee in the cupboard, though, which made my day!
It really is wonderful to enjoy an entire apartment for the price of a nice hotel room!
Another reviewer was upset that there was no beach access. I believe that must have been because of high water from a previous storm. We made the hike to the beach one morning, and loved the walk from there. If, however, you are unable to access the beach from the house because of the same reason, the drive to Harris Beach is less than half a mile and has plenty of parking for a stroll along the coast - not a problem!
We also found both the property manager and the owner to be lovely ladies and gracious hosts. Would we stay at Seastar again?? Absolutely!!! Perfection.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Sea Star Retreat - what an amazing place. The owner and property manager where so kind and we felt right at home. The views are beyond the words to describe and the sunsets were crazy colors, especially the blues at sunset. The unit is above the owner's so you don't hear anything and it is completely private with separate entrance. If we had only one thing to say, it would be nice if a King bed would fit in the bedroom, but other than that we were so happy and are planning to come back next year to Brookings and stay at this lovely place for at least a week this time. It is a cliff hanger and nice stairs down to the beach at low tide.
The view and the special touches you added were over the top!! We both got the flu and were extremely ill while there. We could not have had a more relaxing weekend away from out duties at home. I am a caregiver for my 98 year old mother and now she is ill....We are newlyweds! We got married in February and because of home situation did not have a honeymoon. This was the next best thing, under the circumstances. Such a beautiful place. Thank you for your hospitality,
Sallie and Bill Wilson
We loved staying here. Lovely decor, marvelous taste, just beautiful, and that is the inside. And then there is the lovely deck and view. Comfortable furniture in and out. We appreciated all the little things liked Beach chairs and nice towels. Incredible attention to detail..
Only suggestion is that the bed could use a new mattress but that is a small thing.
We would stay here again for sure.
Sea Star is such a beautiful Homeaway property - right on the cliff over the beach - great, secure location. The property manager was responsive and helpful. The property is larger and more beautiful than the pictures portray.... It was so roomy and luxurious. Spotlessly clean, and well-stocked with everything you could think of - even cookie cooling racks, cookie sheets, tin foil, all kinds of stuff.
The views are incredible. The bed and furniture was very comfortable, and the linens and towels plentiful and clean. I would return to Sea Star in a heart beat and stay longer...
The trek down the stairs to the beach is 214 steps. (Just a warning for people who might have a problem with that). The sound of the waves each night was wonderful, and the beach is a great one for walking...
I received my damage deposit within a few days of leaving Sea Star.
I wish now we had stayed there for our whole vacation. Plan to return with my husband next year. Thank you Judi and Jo Dean.
