The Seastar Retreat is seaside living at its best. From the moment you step into the main room overlooking the sea, you enter an expansive world with a view to the horizon. The hummingbirds play hide and seek in the trees while the waves crash against the rocky cove below. The sea breeze blows calmly in the morning while you contemplate your day's adventure. Perhaps you'll take a morning stroll on the beach, or investigate the tide pools for starfish, or carve mussels off the rocks -- a glimmer catches your eye as you watch a whale go by...
Inside the Sea star are all the amenities of home... well, that is if you have an ocean view at home! And you can enjoy the view from the living room, the sun room, the bedroom, the kitchen or the seaside decks. It's easy to spend the day exploring the beaches, flying a kite, seeking out tide pools or just relaxing and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.
*Note: The Seastar Retreat is the upstairs 'apartment' of a home with a separate entrance.
Our expectations were exceeded. You folks have set the bar so high, it will be hard finding another property that equals the Sea Star.
We had an exquisite time and really enjoyed meeting Judi and the owner. They are superb hosts! We now are regretful that we did not book a longer stay but hope to visit again soon.
The house was beautiful, spotless and had an incredible view. Judy was most helpful, as were the locals that offered suggestions about how to best experience our trip. We had great time, and would enjoy a repeat if invited back. This is really a special place!
Thanks for having us,
The attention to detail and cleanliness made us forget we were in a rental and it felt like we were in our own home.
Spent a fun filled 3 days in Brookings over the Memorial Day weekend with my husband & 2 kiddos (ages 2 & 4)
This house is a spectacular retreat from the hustle & bustle of every day.
We were greeted upon out arrival by the homeowners which made us feel very welcome. I was uneasy about staying at a place where the homeowners would be present because of the potential noise from our kids but they assured us not to worry & enjoy our stay.
The tree house was a special treat that the kids enjoyed daily.
We ventured down the stairs to the beach & really enjoyed being able to enjoy a rocky beach (perfect for finding a “special rock”) & also climbing over a few larger rocks to reach Harris beach which is all sand.
Hiking over the rocks is not for everyone it may be easier for some to take the short drive down the street to the actual park & access the beach that way.
This house has anything & everything you would ever need.
I would love to go back to this place and not leave for 3 days.
I highly recommend this for a couples retreat as well as for a family of 4 traveling.
We had a wonderful vacation staying in this house! We were looking for a place with beautiful views of the ocean and this house exceeded our expectations in every way. We enjoyed walking down the stairs to the beach and sitting out on the deck while the sun was shining. The sun room was the perfect spot to watch the storm come in and listen to the waves and the rain. The house was very clean and the furniture was comfortable. The decorations were well done with a lot of little extra touches. We will be recommending this house to our friends and can't wait to come back ourselves.
Would have been at least 5/5 stars except for the major bummer - there is no beach access!!! With a short 2 night stay planned around the advertised private beach access (not having to drive anywhere for at least 1 full day and relaxing on the beach) the surprise lack of beach access ruined that whole idea and put a damper on the relaxation. We didn't find out about the false advertising until arrival at the rental. Just to make sure, we did go down the stairs and stare at the giant stinky lagoon filled with rotten seaweed and spent a while trying to find any way across or around that did not involve swimming through the disgusting water. There is no way to the beach. It has been that way since Nov 2014 per the owner it does not look like it will change anytime soon. They would have to build a bridge or import a whole lot of sand to restore beach access and there is no evidence of a plan for either. The place is still advertised as having beach access and does not seem that there is any honest attempt to inform people that this is now a lie. Not before or after booking the rental. Not until arrival. So it seems like a deliberate deception and I don't want anyone else to have the same experience. The thing is, it would still have been a good rental if they were honest and up front about the permanent lack of beach access and placed the rental in the category of no direct beach access in the $75-100 lower price range.
There are many wonderful things about this rental but not enough room left in this review to describe them. The major point that all potential vacationers need to know is that there is NO BEACH ACCESS.
I hope they will change the false advertising and reduce the cost accordingly because it really is a great rental. Telling the truth about the lack of beach access would restore the experience to its former glory.
