There were originally two houses built in the West Portal area in the early 1900s, ours still proudly stands, the other was destroyed. This house has survived numerous earthquakes.
We loved our stay on this cute street. The garden is absolutely amazing and we actually enjoyed the rain ! It never rains where we are at. Though our trip was cut short for work, we really enjoyed our time staying here. The location is very good within walking distance to transit, restaurants. We definitely will recommend your place to our family and friends and would stay here again. Thank you,
We loved the small apartment, West Portal Cozy Garden Suite. It is absolutely amazing that West Portal is only a short block away. Couldn't ask for better location. Good restaurants within walking distance, and the garden was quietly isolated and lovely for an evening glass of wine. You do need to remember, however, that the kitchen is tiny, with only a microwave and small refrigerator. Linda does provide a tasty light breakfast. Enjoyed our stay and loved San Francisco.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Clean, quiet, well appointed, attentive owner. GREAT LOCATION!! Would definitely stay again.
I had a great stay in this gorgeous rental; the description is accurate and the place was spotless. It was nice to have access to the courtyard, which was super cute. The neighborhood is a bit off the beaten path, but it's also very close to public transportation. The breakfast treats were a lovely touch (and tasty too!). I was traveling solo this time, and felt totally safe in both the apartment and neighborhood. Would definitely recommend this place to friends, and will keep it in mind for future trips to SF!
We truly enjoyed our stay at this property. It was just right for two people. The location was convenient to mass transit, the little West Portal "downtown" with restaurants, bars, a few shops and free street parking near the house. (Well, free with one exception - a ticket for parking on the wrong side of the street on a street cleaning day ugh - yea I know - "read the signs"!) Linda was awesome and patient with answering my pre-arrival questions and helpful with suggestions on sightseeing logistics. Overall it was a great experience! We would definitely come back and/or recommend the suite to our friends!
Lovely place. Excellent location for using public transportation and we found navigating San Francisco public transit pretty easy. Enjoyed the coffee/tea and treats in the morning! Loved having a nice tv with dvr! Also very nice to have some outside space to relax. Enjoyed the jacuzzi tub in beautiful bathroom. Comfortable bed. Would recommend!
The suite accommodations were nicely appointed and provided plenty of space particularly with the outdoor garden patio extending the living area. Our party of three made use of the inflatable matress which was no issue even for my 6'4" , 220lb frame...very comfortable. We were able to easily tour the entire SF area without need of a car. We took the Bart from the airport to the Balboa Park station and then the Muni K to West Portal. I would however recommend taking the Bart all the way to the Civic Center stop and then any number of the subway trains back out to West Portal. This would avoid all the street level stops the K line makes in the area around Balboa Park. Also, finding the proper loading area at Balboa Park might be a bit of a challenge in the dark. From West Portal into SF and back is all subway and super fast and efficient. We purchased the 3 day Muni pass at about $25 bucks each which allows you to get on and off as much as you want including the cable cars which are $7 a pop otherwise.
We were unexpectedly treated to arriving during Fleet Week and were entertained by the Blue Angels and other acrobatic aircraft during our stay. We visited the Wharf, Japanese Tea House in Goldengate Park including rowboats on the lake, Ocean Beach, the Cliff House, Alcatraz, and on our last day we road horses on the Beach at the Mar Vista stables. We accessed the stables by renting a car from Enterprise our last day. Enterprise is just a few miles away and they came and picked us up. This allowed us to store our luggage in the car before returning the car and heading back to the airport. The Enterprise staff then dropped us off at the Daly City Bart station. If you familiarize yourself with the Muni Maps you will find easy accessibility to everything.
The location in the small village of West Portal was perfect. Lots of restaurants, sports bars, grocery etc. at your disposal. Being an early riser, a Starbucks just down the street allowed my wife and daughter to sleep while I vacated to grab a cup or two and read the paper prior to getting our day started. The breakfast goodies provided were ample, but perhaps alittle more fruit and juice would have been nice if had had to nitpick anything. If you are a big breakfast person, there are place in the village for you as well..
It is a quiet location at the house, but with a pub just around the corner you can get rowdy if you want to.
Overall, we had a great stay and the weather was perfection.
Our house is in the upscale residential neighborhood of West Portal nestled between two prominent areas of St. Francis Wood and Forest Hill. It has the highest rate of private cars and lowest rate of crime in S.F. The area has been recognized as one of the safest in San Francisco by the SFPD. The district is named for the western portal of the Twin Peaks Tunnel which opened for business 96 years ago.
