Loved It. Enjoyed it.

  • 5 of 5

We had great time with families get together at Big House . The place is very quite and easy accessible to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park. We were the first time visitors to this area and loved the place and surrounding places. Small kids enjoyed with small play area. The premise is clean and very good for family get togethers. It has good kitchen, living area and enough bathrooms ( 5+), bunk beds , furniture, indoor games for kids, fireplaces, BBQ areas, play areas for kids and adults. We had other mountain retreats and this was the best place so far. Property manager was very friendly and very helpful to make the last minute changes. We will definitely come back to this place in the future.

Big House Stay

  • 4 of 5

Recently stayed at the Big House for two nights for a family outing. First and foremost the property staff were great to work with. They accommodated our every request which also included showing us the property prior to our stay. We had a total of 15 people from multiple families. The total cost per person per night was very reasonable. Collectively we all thought this was a great value and it suited our specific needs. Some of the girls found it to be a little more rustic than they had hoped and were concerned with the bugs/ants. I had to remind them, we were in the forest with all of God’s creatures. They also felt some of the furnishings could have been updated. However having spent many nights in various camps throughout the years, most of us found it to be quite comfortable and well suited for our event. The hot water was abundant even after we all took our showers. Also the recommended restaurants in the area were great. One recommendation to consider would be to increase the refrigerator space inside to accommodate more food storage which in turn would help eliminate any intrusive ants. Storing some of the food outside the refrigerator is just an open invitation to hungry critters. All in all we enjoyed our stay there and will consider it for future events.

Great /Spacious house

  • 4 of 5

We were a group of 26 people (7 families) who had booked the Big House.

Our check in time was supposed to be at 4 pm but Melinda was very good at accommodating early check in time. She is a very easy, friendly person to work with.

7 bedrooms, so can accommodate 7 families comfortably.

5 full bathrooms (4 new remolded bathrooms) 1 only Shower and 1 half bath, which was good for our group

If going by beds alone, it can sleep easily 40 people, so big groups can adjust.

Full sized kitchen (only 1 regular size Fridge)

Centralized air conditioning

Play area for kids was very nice to keep kids entertained

Close to Kings Canyon national park (40 mins) and around 1.15 hrs drive to Sequoia

House was clean when we came but we did have many problems with Spiders, most of the bedrooms had several spider webs.

The address sign it is not very visible from all directions it is written in small letters, that can be improved and maybe use lights by it so that its easily visible, also board should be visible from both sides, as of now it’s only when you are coming from 180E.

Mattresses are of very low quality, would be good if they can be a better quality.

Only one refrigerator inside the house (not very big to accommodate a big group), one is outside the house but not recommended for food storage but works for drinks)

Could have few more lights on the patio, there should be a switch next to the door outside so that it can be easily turned on when we come at night.

Only 1 Mop for the entire house, you need a few for just the bathrooms and 1 only for the kitchen and other areas.

Had a Jacuzzi but was not usable.

Overall a very nice property, but these small improvements can make it better. I would recommend it for a large group. We enjoyed our stay.

Very nice place, everybody liked it.

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 35 people (families) who had booked both the Big House and the Red Cabin. The review here is only for the Big House. It has its good and the things that can be improved.

Good ones:

7 bed rooms, so can accommodate 7 families comfortably.

5 full bathrooms, 1 only bath and 1 half bath, which was good for our group

If going by beds alone, it can sleep easily 40 people, so big groups can adjust.

Full sized kitchen, lots of pots and utensils

Centralized air conditioning

Play area for kids,

Close to Kings Canyon national park (40 mins) and around 1.15 hrs drive to Sequoia

TV with DVD and VCR although we didnt use it

Fuseball which the kids absolutely enjoyed

House was pretty clean when we came and didnt have any problems with ants or other insects although kids dropped food on the floor.

Things to be improved:

Mattresses are of very low quality, would be good if they upgrade to firm or memory foam

Not sufficient linen / pillow / blankets for all beds, so you have to carry. Its not very expensive, so can be easily provided, so that we can carry less stuff.

The water flow is not good in all bathrooms. Some have good pressure, others its only a drizzle. Can be easily rectified by maintenance.

Only one refrigerator inside the house, one is outside the house but not recommended for food storage, so of not much use. It can be moved inside the house as there is lot of space.

Lighting is not sufficient in all the rooms, and no night lamps. This needs to be improved.

No Mops (couldnt locate one) to clean spills, had to use paper.

Could have few more lights on the patio, there should be a switch next to the door outside so that it can be easily turned on when we come at night

There is a big sign board for the address but its written in small letters, that can be improved and maybe fluorescent material used so that its easily visible, also board should be visible from both sides, as of now its only when you are coming from 180E.

The A/C although it works in hallways nicely, doesnt work good in the bedrooms. So we had to use fans. Needs to be checked.

No bath mats outside bathrooms, that should be provided.

Although a big dining hall is there upstairs, no tables arranged so cant use it for dining. Difficult in night for all to sit and eat outside. Would have been great if it was setup (i think the hall is offered for use at additional cost) .

Overall a very nice property, but these small improvements can make it better.

Loved It

  • 5 of 5

Loved the stay here. I went here recently with my church Youth Group which was a total of 17 people. This included the adults and youth leaders as well. It was a wonderful experience in order to get away from the city and just venerate in the nature around us and be in communion with each other. Everyone enjoyed that the place was very spacious and also immaculate. There were many resources that were available to us such as the fuse ball table, the television (for watching movies according to our programming for this retreat), and the volleyball court outside of the house. The youth were able to relax when we had free time with the recreational things available to us. I also really appreciated the big studio in the second floor which was very spacious too, and it fit all of us since we were 17 people in one room. There we were able to gather altogether to learn from the youth leaders and also sing worship songs together as well. The bedrooms were also comfortable to sleep in, with that in mind, it was nice to have bed sheets and covers available to us, since other places don't usually provide that. The restrooms were also very clean and there was enough for everyone even though we decided to split restrooms with the girls and boys. The kitchen was very neatly organized and with the tools we needed in order to feed everyone. We would eat outside and I was glad that there were tables outside for us to do that. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who decides they want to get away for a while. It is also very close to home, therefore, the drive was not that far, it only took us about an hour and 15 minutes to arrive there (we all come from Selma and Sanger here in California). I'm content on how everything turned out and would definetely go again when I get the oppurtunity to.

P.S. The studio room also has very good acoustics for anyone who likes to play guitar!

Made great memories!

  • 5 of 5

The Big House was a perfect hangout for our family vacation. We were three families with 7 children ages 18mo- 12 years. The kids loved it with lots of room to spread out, plenty of bathrooms and great outdoors to roam in. Huge patio area to hang out and cows to pet and feed. We were there in July so the a/c was very nice to have in day but it cooled off in the evenings. Washer and dryer are handy if you have little kids! Kitchen had all basics you need. (Bring coffee filters for pot and I bought a crockpot for when we were out for day) It was close enough to drive to Sequoia each day for day trips to Hume lake where we spent one day, big trees and caves. We love to camp but aren't quite ready for that so the house was perfect!!
