Secluded but not remote, just 2.6 miles from Main St. Highlands.EXTRA NICE & CLEAN, very private upstairs Coach House apartment. Like new, built in 2008 . Full kitchen including dish washer, new king size bed (Westin Hotel Heavenly Bed). Spacious ,light and airy with windows on 4 sides. Located in beautiful and well groomed Falling Waters community. Nice walking neighborhood, very little traffic, mostly easy terrain..go up to Hide Away Hill if you like more challenge or walk down to the bottom of the falls if you want burning buns. Stop at the little creek-side park and and watch the brook go by. There are lots of birds, wild flowers and little critters around.

About Neil Van Hoogen

We came to the Highlands area in 1996 from Palm Beach County Florida after retiring (Show & Sell publications). We fell in love with the area and became 'accidental hands on developers' of Falling Waters a fifty two acre community....long story. We attend Community Bible Church, (one of the highlights of the area), where Paula sings in the choir. We keep busy taking care of the development...mowing, blowing leaves, weed whacking, planting flowers etc. We like to take short trips in our 5th wheel when we can.

Neil Van Hoogen purchased this apartment in 1998

Why Neil Van Hoogen chose Highlands

Great location, Just 2.8 miles from downtown Highlands gentle land good for walking, building..waterfalls and creeks.

We have 35 acres for sale if you would like to join us, carve out your parcel .75 acres to 10+ acres choose from Waterfall view, Creek front or multi acre Private Estate...great prices too.

What makes this apartment unique

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful, a slower pace, smaller, no traffic jams, friendlier, nearly crime free......We love outdoors, wildlife, mountains , streams, beautiful trees and flowers.......COOL SUMMER DAYS & NIGHTS ...mild winters.

Private Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed at this property and highly recommend it. It is perfect for a couple, well appointed and very clean. Convenient to downtown, yet you feel like you are far away from everything. The owners are wonderful to work with too. We will definitely be back.

Perfectly Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our Nest stay was exquisite. Paula and Neil are the best! This VRBO listing is on the top of our list out of all the places we have stayed. Charming, squeaky clean surrounded by a lovely forested landscape, the Nest delivered a most relaxing..and did I say peaceful??..time for our getaway.

Nest for Two, our new favorite destination.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been spending fall break in Highlands, NC for the past 18 years. We have always stayed in town and decided to venture out this year. I'm so glad we did and got to stay in the Nest for Two owned by Neil and Paula. Their hospitality was most welcoming, with intentional detail to every aspect of our stay. The carriage house was tastefully decorated and the views out every window were breathtaking. Neither my husband or I wanted to leave last Sunday! We enjoyed shopping in Highlands, hiking, waterfalls, and dinning out. But, we had the most relaxing day at the Nest on the day it rained all day! There were movies, books, football games to watch and games to play. We also enjoyed walking all around the property of Falling Waters in the rain. We will definitely be returning to the Nest next fall, if not sooner!

Nest for 2 is perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had never been to North Carolina or the Blue Ridge Mountains before. The Nest for 2 was the perfect place to stay for our trip. Neil and Paula have everything you could possibly need in their beautiful property. We enjoyed coffee on the deck every morning and a glass of wine in the evenings. It was like your own little private cabin in the woods. The property was close to all of Highland's attractions and we hit most of them. The hike up Whiteside Mountain was worth the breathtaking views and Dry Falls is a must see. Downtown Highlands is just minutes away and we enjoyed that every day. Neil and Paula were so fun to meet and they truly have a gem just waiting for your next trip to the Highlands! We highly recommend the Nest for 2 for your trip to the Highlands!
