Our apartment is perfectly situated for you to fully experience the pleasures of Guanajuato, the heart of Mexico's historical colonial center. Located in a quiet part of the city, it is easily accessible by foot, local transportation or car. Walk down the stairs, stroll through the tree lined streets of the local neighborhood, and 15 minutes later you are downtown, with its museums, restaurants, plazas, theaters and a large market. Take a bus or taxi home and and get dropped off a few meters from the front gate. The large terrace, perfect for a morning coffee or a cool afternoon drink, provides you with a magnificent 180 degree view of the city and surrounding mountains.
The apartment is bright and the two bedrooms are spacious, with a king size bed and a boveda (dome) ceiling in the master bedroom. The den has a sofa bed, making a third bedroom an option. We have been visiting Mexico together for 25 years, and fell in love with Guanajuato in 2009. We have been coming back at least twice a year since then, and couldn't resist buying this lovely apartment in May, 2012. It is our pleasure to offer our Mexican home as your base for enjoying your visit here in what we consider to be the most beautiful city in this fascinating country.
Our Canadian home is Vancouver, where we are professionals in education and complementary health care. Ted speaks Spanish as well as English.
Ted Thomas purchased this townhome in 2012
The view from the ample terrace sold us on the apartment. We love its proximity to downtown, and the fact that it is very quiet day and night. The local neighbourhood of Embajadoras has its own charm and most essential services. This area of Mexico, with its perfect climate, is our favourite part of the country.
The apartment is located in a small quiet complex near the top of a street just below the Panorámica, Guanajuato's perimeter road. After a long tiring day of walking around the city, visiting its museums, galleries and plazas, you have the option of taking a bus or taxi for a few pesos and being dropped off just above the complex, which is about 45 steps down the callejón. If you forget to buy something in town, there are a few shops in the neighbourhood. If you like to hike, La Bufa, a local mountain and pilgrimage site, is a reasonable walk from the apartment.
The best was for me to open the terrace door, see the whole city and relax. The location is great around the edge with a walk down to the markets, shops and restaurants. Small needs are a 5 minute walk and grocery is a 5 minute drive. Also an important need for me was parking and I know hard to come by in the city, but there is an assigned spot.
The overall apartment is very roomy and has all I needed.
The owner, caretaker and housekeeping were very available and helpful.
Great place and views for spend a time at Guanajuato. It´s quite comfortable and nearby to downtown and beatufil places to nice walks.
Host atention is very good and available every moment.
Awesome place and great atention !!!
My husband and I have spent 3 winters in Guanajuato and this 2-storey apartment is by far the best place we have stayed. What I enjoyed most about the apartment was the incredible view, the terrace, and also how beautiful and comfortable the whole apartment is. The two floors and two full bathrooms also means that there is plenty of space for overnight guests. The extras in this apartment are a comfortable king-sized bed in the master bedroom (a large room that feels very luxurious), a cozy den with cable television, and complimentary cleaning service once per week. It also has a covered laundry area right next to the kitchen, and the kitchen includes a stove with an oven (many Mexican homes do not have ovens). All of that gives it that touch of luxury that you can enjoy while you immerse yourself in the culture of this authentic Mexican city.
The main challenge of the apartment, which we quickly got used to, is that it is at the top of a very steep callejon (an alleyway with houses facing it on either side) with 300 stairs. However, if you don't wish to climb the stairs, you can take a taxi (30 or 40 pesos) or a bus from the downtown area (el centro) to the top of the stairs. From there, it is about 50 shallow stairs down to the gate for the apartment. Personally, I enjoyed going from the apartment down the stairs, which take you into the La Presa neighbourhood. The neighbourhood has a lot of places to shop, including small fruit and vegetable stores. It is a very short walk to the Embajadoras area, where there is a covered and open air market, and many more shops. From there it is just a 5 minute walk to el centro. And I even enjoyed climbing back up the stairs because it was such great exercise. One advantage of being so high up is that it is quieter than most of the other neighbourhoods in Guanajuato. In addition, the immediate neighbours in the adjoining apartments are very quiet.
Finally, there is a family one door below that takes care of both the cleaning and can take care of any needs you have during your stay. For example, they delivered bottled water to us whenever we needed it and were available to take care of any needed repairs, which they always did promptly. We also contacted Ted, the owner via email when we had any questions, and he always responded right away. In addition, there is a property manager, who is fluent in English and who also helped us when we needed anything.
I have been to Guanajuato several times for work and for the Cervantino. I have stayed at high end hotels and rented homes. This home was excellent for me and my friend and her husband. The owners really made an effort to make it comfortable for renters. The house has everything you need---and it all works (TV, cable, washing machine, blender, wireless internet, iron, etc)! It has a large balcony on the second level with a table and chairs for eating outdoors.
If you stay here, you will likely walk down the hill to downtown and take a taxi home. Just tell the taxi driver "Hotel de la Presa" as that hotel is right next door and all the drivers will know this location. Please take 5-10 minutes to read all the recommendations the owners have left for you. My friends and I REALLY enjoyed the location of the house (high enough for a view, far enough from the city that you don't get all the noise---trust me in downtown can get loud during Cervantino) and the ambiance. The house is part of a small 'townhome' complex with a private, gated, locked entrance. It is on a 'callejon' which is a walking 'street, and is about 30-40 steps from the street above.
The owners have really done a nice job with this place and have left everything you could possibly need for your stay. We really loved staying in their home and would HIGHLY recommend it to someone visiting Guanajuato who is used to US/Canadian standards (everything works) yet want to stay in a place that is also very "Guanajuato." We always felt safe and that we were 'coming home' after a day of sightseeing or shows. I do plan to rent again and again here.
I do recommend this home highly and hope you have as good an experience as we did.
Easily accessible by walking or public transit to Guanajuato's historic colonial center with its array of museums, galleries, theaters, restaurants and charming cobblestone streets. Once the world's leading silver extraction center, there are also old mines to visit, and the subterranean streets are a unique feature of the city. The hotel across the street has a pool and a tennis court.
