Charming lake front cottage at the water's edge. Open concept with great views of the lake. Private dock to access the lake's many recreational opportunities. Camp is only 5 miles from I-95 and close to restaurants and shopping
Has a full kitchen with all pots, pans, dishes and utensils for your use! Ceiling fans and floor fans for your use as well! Camp also has internet connection (wifi).
I grew up in Maine not too far from Cobbossee Lake and always dreamed of having a camp on the lake. My family loves to spend time at the lake and we decided to make this possible for others by renting out our camp.
Stephanie purchased this cottage in 2007
Cobbossee Lake really chose us. The lake is close to shopping and restaurants and medical facilities. The cottage is also close to the main road forgoing a long bumpy dirt road experience. The lake is also well known in the area for good fishing. The property was within our budget and it is a cottage, not a fancy house, but someplace that has retained the cottage feel while providing some necessary conveniences.
The breeze is usually perfect, and in the heat of the summers it is usually cooler at the camp. The lot is relatively steep and the water drains very well and this helps keep biting flies away. The best part is when you sit at the dock and you look across the lake towards the light house you can feel the stress melt away.
We were Very pleased with the accommodations! This cottage is clean and has plenty of open living space. Although the steps to the cottage were steep, it was well worth the view when entering this charming camp. Our party of four were very comfortable sitting in front of the wood burning fireplace!
We enjoyed the fire pit and wonderful views in the morning. The location was quiet and beautiful.
While the cottage/camp was more than sufficient to cover basic needs, it was very much crafted by a DYI person. It could use a solid coat of paint vs. the partially painted walls (perhaps to hid mold? There was a musty smell to the house at all times, even with windows open.) There is no air conditioning. The floor slants and is creaky, there are little gnat like bugs that come up through the bathroom sink and don't leave food out as ants will be swarming over anything left on the counter...even if it's wrapped in foil.
You'll need to bring your own linens (which I thought odd and must really be challenging for anyone flying in) and towels.
They do have a BBQ grill and full kitchen (we didn't use either though so can't speak to cleanliness). They have a canoe and kayak for your use, but the walkway to the water is steep so be careful. It was so steep that we opted out from using either. It was nice that they had fishing poles, books and board games available for guests.
Note there is a separate cleaning fee that isn't included as part of the nightly rate. It was $75.
After paying our final payment we received a letter telling us that we needed to bring our own sheets and towels! We were aware of the steep climb down to the camp, but not prepared for the poor condition of the steps with loose pavers and the camp itself. It definitely has deteriorated since the pictures were taken. The worse thing we discovered written on the second sheet of paper attached to the refrigerator, which we only discovered because we were looking for the internet connection was the water was not Potable. Had we not read this we could have all been sick, especially our Grand-children. We should have been warned! Most windows had screens, however some screens didn't fit right so you couldn't open the windows anyway. No bedroom door or bathroom door that closes , which are both off the living room. The list goes on. We would not recommend this place to others!
Great location close to town and everything happening on the lake. Great family memories made!!!
We stayed at this lovely cabin on the lake for a short getaway. The location is absolutely beautiful with attractive views and the sound of water lapping on the shore. The large windows and open floor plan are a real bonus to the rustic charm. We enjoyed both the fireplace and the outdoor BBQ area immensely. We didn’t have any problem with the parking or the walkway down the hill as other guests had mentioned, it was fine and we actually liked the idea of walking down to the cabin. We even brought our own kayaks and carried them down to the dock, kayaking on the lake was the best, there are a lot of islands to stop off at and have a picnic or stretch your legs. The one issue we had was the abrupt and unreasonable harshness of the cleaners. They arrived at 10am and I invited them in as we were just taking out the last of our bags. They immediately started complaining to us in a hostile manner. We did not leave a mess; we took out all the garbage, washed the dishes and cleaned the refrigerator so this rude behavior was out of line and disconcerting. That one incident gave a bad vibe to an otherwise idyllic stay, what a shame to depart on a negative note. We felt sorry for them; however, many people are frustrated with their jobs and since we see this has been an ongoing problem our suggestion is to either eliminate their contact with outgoing guests or train them to be respectful. We would come back if it wasn't for that problem.
Cobbosse Lake area is so pretty. The cottage was cute and clean. The cottage needs some work-bathroom especially needs an upgrade. The kitchen had all the basics which was great. The driveway is steep with only two parking places which made it a hassle for my large local family when they would Come visit. The neighbor made it quite clear that we could not use his driveway to get out.! Access to the water is by stairs, not small child or elderly friendly. Overall visit was good but it is hard to complain too much about staying on the water in Maine!
