You will get a warm and cozy feeling from the moment you walk in the door. I built the cabin for that reason. I did not want just another city house. The home is all warm wood. Not a stick of dry wall to be found. The house features two bedrooms both with king beds. There are two more queen beds if you're up to climbing a ladder to a loft over looking the living area. Older kids love this space. There is a fire place in the living area as well as one in the master bedroom. Two full baths. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything you may need. Dining room off the kitchen looks over the lake. The master bedroom and bath will knock your socks off. Large with walk out sliding doors leading to a deck and over looking the lake. A spiral staircase goes up to a office space also looking over the lake. Master bath features a large glass block shower, twin sinks, bidet, private toilet, and a jetted corner tub looking over the lake as well. This a very cozy home and perfect for one couple, two couples or a family with older kids. It has been used for two honeymoon couples and they loved it. Located in a quiet cove with an unspoiled view of the mountains and not a lot of other houses. At times I enjoy the winter most. Light both fire places and curl up to a good book. The house is easy to get to. Just four tenths mile from a US highway. Paved all the way to the door. If you enjoy fun times and crazy things you will enjoy the walls decorated with toboggans, sleds, ice skates, fun posters, old large hornets nest, fishing poles, etc. Enjoy the use of two kayaks on the lake. Now with wifi internet access if you must bring work to the lake. Please be aware this is a NO SMOKING home
I raised three boys at the lake and they grew to love going there. Many of their friends also visit often. During the years we met many nice folks close by. Wonderful place to grow up.
Jim Gardner purchased this cabin in 1967
From the very first time I saw Lake Burton I knew I had to have a piece of paradise. Best thing I ever did.
My favorite part of the cabin is the warmth and cozy feel.
Had a great weekend. Enjoyed everything about the cabin. The cabin was in a perfect place on the lake. The weather was awesome, cool mornings and warm afternoons. Everyone enjoyed the use of the kayaks and jumping off the 2 story dock into the water. Best of all we have some great memories with a lot of laughs. Thanks again, Mr. Gardner for sharing your piece of treasure with us
What a wonderful way to spend my 50th birthday!! Our whole family had a blast at this cozy, funky cabin on Lake Burton. It was immediately a place that felt comfortable and cozy, like somewhere you had been going for years. It almost seemed as if you were in a tree house with the large trees and views of the lake.
We swam, kayaked, and just enjoyed the peaceful relaxation of the beautiful surroundings. My kids and husband ( the oldest kid} jumped off the boat house. We drank coffee and watched a storm come in off the mountains from the covered porch. We rented a pontoon from Anchorage Marina and took the kids tubing. Best of all, my oldest son proposed to his girlfriend on the deck of the boathouse on the morning of my birthday. She said "Yes!" Lots of wonderful transitions for our family.
Couldn't recommend this place enough. Jim is super-nice, and the cabin has everything you could need to enjoy your stay. I recommend shopping at Ingles Grocery in Clayton upon arriving. It is closer than I thought it would be, so I will do that instead of packing in groceries next time. First experience with VRBO, and an overall good one. Thanks for everything Jim!
The Parker Family
We have not even stayed here, our reservation is for Sept. But Jim and his lovely wife were at the cabin this past weekend and graciously offered to to give us a tour. Within a couple of minutes they had us feeling like family. After we sat at the boathouse and chatted for an hour and half over a couple glasses of chardonnay. It's a perfect cabin on a beautiful spot on the lake. So looking forward to September.
This was our second visit to "High Romance" and it is by far our favorite spot on the lake! We have stayed in several other homes over the last 5 years, but this one feels like home. Mr Gardner is so so nice and easy to work with. He truly wants his guests to have a great time and does whatever he can to make that happen. the master bedroom is huge and has an amazing bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The guest room is very nice as well and also has a king size bed. Both bedrooms have flat screen tv's with cable/satellite. The dock and boathouse are both great and plenty of room for guests to bring their boat. Great location on the lake for swimming as well because this part of the lake doesn't have as much boat traffic as some of the other parts. The location of the house is great because it is fairly close to town ( Clayton ) and only about a 15 minute drive. The house is always well stocked and turn key ready. We will be back again soon!!
Beautiful private spot on Lake Burton. Very peaceful and quiet. We loved the nostalgic décor and cabin feel of the house. Our sons (19 and 21) loved jumping off the high boat deck down into the cool, refreshing water and fishing from the dock. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe as well. We rented a ski boat and tube for a day at the local marina and had a blast. The hammock on the porch was my favorite spot to relax. This house was perfect for our family getaway. We will definitely plan on returning one day. In addition, Clayton was an adorable small town. The BBQ at the Wicked Pig was delicious, and the Universal Joint had great food and outside atmosphere.
Can't wait to plan a vacation here again!
My family and another couple enjoyed a great week at Jim's lakehouse. Our favorite area was spending time on the great sprawling deck (the beer fridge on it was helpful). We had fun catching fish off the dock in the evening and the beautiful views. Jim was very easy to communicate with and we would definitely rent this home again. Lake Burton grocery was a short 2 miles away and our go to take out food when we got tired of cooking. My daughter loved the loft bedroom area where she could go and her little brother couldn't get to her. Lots of nooks and crannies for people to have their own space. The old signs on the walls were pretty funny and got some laughs! Thanks for being a great host Jim and we hope to return.
This cabin is on the shore line of one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. The elevation of 1800 feet keeps it like spring in the summer. About an hour to the Smokey Mountain Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Wonderful roads to ride and explore. Motorcycle heaven. Delightful small towns to enjoy with great stores to shop. Fish in one of the many Trout Streams or drop a line in the lake. If you like to gamble there is a casino 50 minutes away just over the border in NC.
