Why Kevin Ehlers, Owner chose Hood Canal

We love the beauty of Hood Canal and the many nearby recreational opportunities like fishing, boating, hiking and golfing. Even though the home is only 90 minutes from the Seattle area, you feel like you are a million miles away from the fast paced daily grind. In the picturesque town of Union, basic amenities are just minutes away. The Union Country Store has the essentials such as groceries, ice cream, beer and wine, coffee and gifts. The public boat launch and marina (with kayak rentals) and a popular Mexican restaurant and bar are also within walking distance. Full amenities are available 15 minutes west at Hoodsport, 15 minutes south at Shelton and 25 minutes east at Belfair.

What makes this house unique

The Union City Beach house is the perfect vacation spot! This peaceful location is just a four minute walk to downtown Union, the Marina and boat launch, the Country Store and the 2 Margaritas Mexican Restaurant. The home is right over the water at high tide and at low tide you can venture hundreds of yards out onto the mudflats. This property has a unusually private setting compared to most other waterfront homes in the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Copy of review from guest on the vacation rental site airbnb 3/8/14.

The owner was very communicative before my stay, promptly and thoroughly answering my questions. The beach house itself was far better than I had even imagined it, and the photos do not do it justice! The views from all three water-facing sides of the house were absolutely stunning, and during high tide I felt as if I were on my own private island. The views of the mountains were also tremendous, and I even though I visited during late-winter, when the sun was out, the water was deep and blue and mesmerizing. The house itself is tastefully decorated and fully equipped with everything you need for any kind of vacation, from relaxing to active, and the views from the master bedroom are like the cherry on the top of the cake. The location is also perfect: it feels very secluded, but you're a short drive from restaurants, supermarkets, etc. In short: The Union City Beach House at Hood Canal is a real gem, and I can't wait to go back!

Kayaking with Seals - what an experience.

  • 5 of 5

We just have had a wonderful stay in Kevins house and enjoyed every minute. My sister and I did some kayaking while seals coming along with us. My parents also enjoyed the stay and the wonderful views. We had been lucky with the weather too. We will bring some stories back to Germany. Thanks to the provided beach shoes which saved our feet from cuts of the oysters shells just in front the house. We got our first oyster license and ennjoyed also digging for Manila clams right in front of the house.

Relaxing weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a delightful stay at the house. The beds were comfortable. The house was clean and ready for us when we arrived for a long weekend getaway. The views from the house was the best part of the stay.

The perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Ehler's home in Union. The view from the deck and from inside takes your breath away. When we arrived on Friday, we could see the snow capped Rockies. On Sat and Sun it was overcast but it didn't dampen our stay. We sat on the chairs on the deck and watched the tides come in and out. We saw one little seal poking its head out.

The kitchen has all the utensils you need to make a hearty breakfast and dinner. We cooked in one evening and had a late Sunday lunch.

We were in for a wedding at the Alderbrook and this was an ideal location- 5 min away.

Although off the main drag, we never heard a car- extremely peaceful.

This is the perfect getaway.

What a wonderful place to get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

This beach cottage is like being on a boat - the sound of the waves, the ocean scented breeze. It is very clean and cozy with charming spaces to enjoy inside and outdoors.

Take the opportunity to eat some of the oysters right off the beach and refresh your soul with a cup of coffee on the deck in the morning.

Make sure you visit the Union Country Store for homemade prime rib, Raven's Brew coffee beans, to-die-for ice cream, yummy lemon bars, fresh produce and FABULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE (thank you boys).

My sister, golden retriever and I spent a lovely 3 days here and between cruising around exploring the peninsula and relaxing at the cottage it felt like a much longer vacation and really left us feeling refreshed.

A few very special things: in the kitchen there was a brand new sponge in its wrapper for us to use, the cottage is very clean and fresh with minimal "scented" products used (which is very important if you have allergies like my sister), owner Kevin got back to me quickly (since this was an unplanned trip that was important), Captain Kirk greeted us warmly as he swept down the few cobwebs on the deck and gave us great info about the area, the yard is small but lovingly maintained and we really enjoyed the little garden nook with fire pit.

You can really tell they care about this cottage and their guests.

Good location, kitchen and bathroom. House not ready upon arrival.

  • 3 of 5

Nice house in a good area. I expected a little more attention to detail and professionalism.

At arrival, we had to wait to hear a response back from in-town manager. Washer was full of dirty cleaning rags. One bedroom was very smelly and clearly needed additional cleaning (the cleaning crew had left both windows of this room completely wide open, realizing that the room had to be aired out).

No grill, coffee, sponges or scrubber for kitchen.

Manager indicated on Sunday that he would set up grill on Monday. We never heard from him again.

Owner's Response: To ensure the best possible guest experience, effective June 1, 2016, the Property Manager who was in previously in charge of cleaning and guest reception, was let go. Experienced, professional cleaners are now performing the cleaning under my supervision and the checking in process is now controlled and managed excusively by myself, Kevin the owner. Guests should expect a freshly cleaned house and an easy check-in process.
