Designed for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests; relaxed luxury for renewal
About Russ McColman
We are former flight attendants who had a fantastic time restoring what was a three bedroom/one bath 1920's cottage into what you see today.Russ hails from BC, Canada and Seattle, WA. Kerrie is a Queens, NY/ west coast hybrid. We are relatively new to Vermont having moved from the West coast in 2008. Brandon is an amazing place; our dart fell in the perfect spot!
Russ McColman purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Russ McColman chose Brandon
We chose to restore this property because it is located at the end of our driveway. When it popped up at auction we knew we had to have it. Although it was a total gut, we managed to keep some of its original charm re-using as much of the old house as possible. (The original front door is the door to the guest bathroom and the feature wall in the sun room is made up of the former trim which was cut down.)
What makes this Cottage unique
By utilizing the talents of local craftspeople and artists we ended up with a lovingly restored, unique and special hideaway. Three years of hard work yielded a satisfying result which we are proud to offer as a home away from home for you to enjoy.

Very Good Long Weekend Stay
My wife and I stayed here during the last weekend of 2019. This property was very cozy, clean, well located, full of numerous local amenities, and worthwhile in every sense. We were able to enjoy some of the Towns local attractions and were able to easily access other nearby noteworthy Vermont Towns. Great Value, Great Place, Great All Around Experience.
What a perfect way to end our 2019 of rave reviews, thank you!
Russ very nice little house was fantastic we loved it
Glad to hear! Makes it all worth it.
Little House Gem
I stayed at the Little House for almost 3 weeks, and it was an incredible, stress-free stay. The house is immaculate and equipped with every amenity, and even with that, Kerrie and Russ went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. They are both very knowledgeable about the area and had great suggestions for things to see. They also provide tons of brochures and information about Vermont attractions. The house is conveniently located to the Green Mountain National forest, and I enjoyed many, many hikes and drives thru the forest, as well as the surrounding towns. The fall foliage was at its peak and the views were awe-inspiring at every bend in the road or trail. I never ran out of things to do and see during my stay, and that would be true no matter what time of year it was.
Russ and Kerrie are terrific and I’m so glad I was able to meet them and take advantage of their adorable little house!
We’re so happy you enjoyed your time in Brandon! Thanks for sharing your adventures; so many places we’ve yet to visit. Loved seeing you enjoy town and running into you as if you lived here. Can’t wait to welcome you back.
Lovely Little House
We enjoyed our stay at the Little House in Brandon - such a beautiful New England town! The house had absolutely everything we needed and is lovingly restored - would highly recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful little slice of New England. It was wonderful to see the town construction nearing completion as we stayed in Brandon last year for another Middlebury College event. We will be back!
A bit late responding to your fantastic review but I can say that the construction is completed now and town looks incredible. Really glad you chose the 25 minute drive to Middlebury and stayed with us in Brandon. Thanks and look forward to your return.
just what we needed ...
lovely cottage in a quiet neighborhood. was just what we needed for a great home base for day tripping. the owners have provided every comfort in this lovely, efficient property.
Always happy when guests depart refreshed and replenished. I’m glad you enjoyed your adventures. Thanks for choosing to stay at our home although I’m not certain you were there as it looked virtually untouched :).
Home from Home and more
A very well appointed, well provisioned, exceptionally clean, single storey house with all modern conveniences in close proximity to shops and interesting attractions.
Historical sites, museums and superb scenic drives / walking trails are within easy access.
We have been unable to think of anything missing that would be required to reside there even on a permanent basis.
The decor and refinements are second to none.
The thoughtful, friendly hosts are within walking distance and available to offer assistance if required.
Wow! Thank you for the stellar review. We enjoyed having you as our guests and are so pleased that you enjoyed Brandon.
We are at the foot of the Green Mountain Wilderness area. Great hiking, cross country skiing, lake activities. ( There is an activity book with maps in the house) The Neshobe River and Otter Creek create two waterfalls in the center of town. The Stephen Douglas Museum is located in his childhood home at the north end of town. Brandon is central to Middlebury, Woodstock and an hour's drive to Burlington. The local arts scene is very active: The Brandon Artists Guild hosts many local talents and music is not to be missed when it is played at Brandon Music.
