About Tyann Winnie

My four sisters and I came in the summers as children to Long Lake, learning swimming, sailing, appreciating the music if Interlochen. My husband and I had this house built on property given to us by my parents. Our children and grandchildren come from as far away as Oregon and Germany. They all have learned to love this beautiful lake on which the house fronts and the house nestled in among the birch trees.

Tyann Winnie purchased this cottage in 1992

Why Tyann Winnie chose Northern Michigan

This property is mid-way between Traverse City and Interlochen

Arts and Music Center. It is within walking distance of the Long Lake Township tennis courts and playing fields.

What makes this cottage unique

The house was designed by an Oregon architect. It was built by the son of the builder who also built my parents house nearby. The house arrangement provides very flexible space.

Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time at Summer Lark. It was a very relaxing pleasant stay. The check in was very easy. The cottage was well stocked with supplies right down to the towels and bedding. It was exceptionally clean. Even the lower level and laundry room where you'd expect to find webs and spiders was clean. The tiled floors throughout made it pretty easy to tidy up during our stay. The best amenity we discovered after a few days there was the neighbor Leah and her kids. My grandchildren really had a great time playing with her kids and declared we have to stay at Sumner Lark next year so they can come back and see their friends. We do have a few suggestions that our family thinks could have improved our stay even more. First off we didn't realize there wasn't a firepit there. For our family that's one of the things we really enjoy. Sitting around the fire at night roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories. The second would be a better dock situation with easier access to the shallow part of the water for little ones. The dock was kind of rickety. Maybe a dock with a large platform area at the end that was L shaped to kind of close off the shallow area for little swimmers. The third thing would be a solution to stop all of the condensation from the toilet tanks. Originally I thought our little guys were having a aiming problem until I took a closer look. One of my guest suggested insulating the toilet tanks.(?) Last of all I would suggest a larger dehumidifier. I was emptying that thing like three times a day. Those are just a few things we thought would have improved our stay but that's just our opinion.

Overall it was a great experience and we would highly recommend a visit to Summer Lark. We think we"d like to come back next year for a couple weeks stay.

Beautiful wooded setting, comfortable cottage, great location

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our week-the location was perfect. Close to TC and Moomers was just down the road. Beautiful wooded setting and the lake was crystal clear. The house has more of a cottage feel-no carpet, furniture was functional but had very little padding, 2 dehumidifiers were running constantly in the basement. I would not recommend this for someone with small children. As the picture indicates, there are multiple steps to the dock and there is no beach-the shallower water has a rocky bottom. There are steps at the end of the dock leading to waist deep water with a sandy bottom. We had 2 teenage boys and they loved the dock, water, and canoe-perfect for this age.

There is a beautiful deck looking out at the woods and the lake.

Owner was very responsive and informative. Overall, we loved it and hope to stay here again next year

Great Value

Every year this home becomes a little better. The owners take the recommendations to heart and improve their home. This is the third summer that my family and I have enjoyed a stay here. This year, 2017 was the best one yet.

Beautiful location on Long Lake. Quiet and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay on Long Lake. The house was perfect for our family. Everything was kept and ready for guests.

Paddling around the lake. Sitting on the dock and watching the sunset. Day trips to Sleeping Bear and Traverse City. After dinner visits to Moomers. It was the perfect place for our vacation.
