About the property

Set away from the hustle of Cabarete’s vibrant town and beach life, yet still within an easy, pleasant walking distance, the apartments are situated in a small block, in an up-market, gated community with full security. Outside are delightful tropical gardens, which overlook Cabarete’s famous lagoon. A wide variety of beautiful water birds are frequent visitors. There is a communal pool and sun-lounge area for complete relaxation. The one-bedroom apartments are larger than average at about 80 sq. metres (860 sq. feet) and feature a private outside seating area or balcony overlooking the gardens.

The apartments are fully furnished with cable TV, WiFi, kitchen equipment, double bed, washing machine, bed linen, towels etc. They benefit from on-site night-time security and an invertor electrical back-up system.

Prices are extremely competitive to provide some of the best value holiday/vacation rentals in town. Better still, for long-term rentals, substantial discounts are available for those who are lucky enough to be able to stay for a month or more.

Cabarete is one of the Dominican Republic North Coast's favourite places - its palm studded beach being world renowned for its wind-surfing and kite-boarding, yet equally appealing to those who just want to relax in the sun, cooled by gentle sea breezes, enjoying the cosmopolitan atmosphere. Also on the beach and in town are a wide variety of restaurants, shops and bars to cater for all tastes and budgets. At the rear of the town is the El Choco national park, with its lagoon, wooded walks and caves.

About Jonny Hewer

After several vacations in the Dominican Republic, Englishman Jonny decided he liked it so much he wanted to buy his own apartment in his favourite town, Cabarete. While looking, he came across, and fell in love with Sueno Tropical, a small development of seven apartments. It changed his life and instead of being an occasional visitor he now live permanently in one of the apartments, where he enjoys making friends with his guests,

Jonny Hewer purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Jonny Hewer chose Pro Cab

Cabarete offers a unique blend of great water sports, being a world centre of kite-boarding and windsurfing, coupled with a vibrant local life with great bars, restaurants and nightclubs along the beach and main street. There is something for everyone with all tastes and price ranges catered for.

What makes this apartment unique

Sueno Tropical offers a relaxed lifestyle in a beautiful, tranquil setting, yet is within easy reach of the fun and excitement of Cabarete town and beach. Being in a gated community and with night-time security guard, it offers unrivalled peace of mind, without feeling trapped behind walls or isolated from the local community. The adjoining lagoon adds to the overall feeling of peace and calm.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I stayed for 2 weeks and loved it. Short walk to the beach, very private and secure. The owner, Jonny made us feel right at home. We even shared a bottle of champagne with him on our last night there. The apartment was very spacious, comfortable, and cool at night time. We spent alot of time on the balcony and in the pool. It was the tropical getaway we desired. The ground were meticulously kept and it was our tropical paradise. I made all the arrangements and finally hit a home run- my wife did not complain once. I highly recommend it!!!

Tropical delight!

  • 5 of 5

I have traveled to Cabarete for the last 3 summers and return each time to Sueno Tropical. The grounds and accommodations are clean and well maintained. The apartments are nicely decorated and the pool area is lush with native plants. Jonny, the owner truly takes pride in this property. It is conveniently only a 10 minute walk to the beach and town through a very nice neighborhood. If you are looking for a good value, a quiet, tropical atmosphere, and a pleasant experience, I highly recommend Sueno Tropical for a stay in Cabarete. You will be delighted!

Dream Come True

  • 5 of 5

I hesitate to write this review as this property should be kept a secret. I will be returning soon as it is a perfect place to escape to. The owner, Jonny is more than accommodating yet never invades your privacy. The Year-round French couple who live downstairs are delightful and the snowbirds who arrived soon before my departure were friendly and fun. A young Haitian man who works part-time and can fix anything is charming always wears a smile. He also maintains the Eden-like property spectacularly. The location is ideal and the 1 mile walk to town is perfect. The night guard greets you in the evening and I always felt safe. The apartment is very large and well-equipped. I volunteered at a nearby school and had an all around perfect adventure. This is a small tropical complex and is so much more attractive than the 100+ condo complexes on the beach. I am so happy that I picked Suena Tropical to call home for a couple of months. My thanks to everyone for making my stay so memorable. Back in San Diego now but planning my return...

A secret to share....

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Sueno Tropical, Cabarete, for two weeks in June 2012 and wished I could have stayed for two months. This was my first visit to the Caribbean and the first of many, I hope, to Cabarete. I emailed my arrival time in advance to Jonny, the owner of Sueno Tropical, and there he was at Puerto Plato airport ready to collect me, waving and delighted to see me - what a nice man and what a good start to my holiday even though my flight was four hours late (he had waited all that time for the plane to arrive!) A short ride back to the apartment from the airport and I was shown to my accommodation which was very clean well-maintained. The apartment has lovely, spacious rooms with a good sized kitchen fully equipped with everything there, living room, bathroom and bedroom and plenty of space to settle in. The gardens are to be admired with so many tropical plants and an inviting pool to cool down in. It is obvious a lot of hard work has gone into the cultivation and planning of the gardens and I met Jonny's handyman/gardener called Joel who was delightful to talk to and is so interested in keeping up the beautiful surroundings. There is a lagoon is at the back of the gardens and is host to some amazing birds. Sueno Tropical is in an area called Pro Cab and is a quiet location away from the town of Cabarete and the beach but only 10 minutes walk away. Jonny is more than willing to drive you into the town or to the beach if you need a lift or any help with shopping. There is plenty of choice to eat out in the local restaurants which is a very relaxing experience with the sound of the sea so close! I am planning on returning every year to Sueno Tropical just for the delightful, tropical relaxation and rest.

Cabarete, Dominican Republic & Oslo, Norway

The Most Beautiful, Most Exotic, Natural Surroundings located in Cabarete

  • 5 of 5

I recently stayed at Tropical Sueno for 6 weeks--April 15th, 2012 until June 4th,2012. I must say, of all the places i've stayed in the Dominican Republic--too numerous to mention here--this location was the most exotic, most natural (surrounded by a natural lagoon that borders the property), and most beautifully landscaped location i've ever experienced in all of travels.

For those unfamilair with Cabarete, Tropical Sueno is located within the confines of "Pro Cab," bordering right up against a natural lagoon filled with fauna and tropical birds and flowers that is right out of the biblical Garden of Eden. The landscaped surroundings of Tropical Sueno are beautifully orchestrated and blend in naturally with the surroundings. There is a polite, young handyman, Joel, running around and is at the service of the guests for everything from carrying water up to one's apartment to relocating or fixing things. Joel is a true gem, and has one of the nicest personality dispositions of anyone i've met. Which brings me to the owner of the Tropical Sueno, Jonny.

Jonny is a true English gentlemen. He retrieves his guests from the nearby Puerto Plata airport and delivers them promply at the end of their journey. Jonny is always at the service of his guests for everything from airport retrieval to carrying 35lbs 5 galloon water jugs up to his guests rooms whenever his handyman, Joel, is busy attending other chores. There's a lovely French couple renting one of the apartments downstairs and they always greet guests with "Good Morning" and "Good Evening." They are beautiful people, friendly people, but regretably, I never caught their name.

Within the confines of Tropical Sueno is one of the most beautifully landscaped surroundings i've ever seen--tall palm trees, flowers, water reeds, cats tails, and assorted fauna that pepper the landscape--a true masterpiece of sculpturing--with a winding walkway that winds its way from the street all the way upagainst the bordering cats tails of the lagoon.

In conclusion, i highly recommend Tropical Sueno to anyone looking for a laid back, relaxing, exotic location that is easy on the eyes and easy on the budget, I know that I look forward to returning in the winter where i long to see the likes of Joel, Jonny, and the beautiful French couple. I give this place an easy 10 out of 10 for price, location (5 minute walk from the ocean), and exotic surroundings. a true gem of Cabarete.

Sincerely, Frank G

Owner's Response: Many thanks for this, Frank. You're welcome back any time! It makes all our efforts seem worthwhile. Just in the interests of complete honesty, I would say the walk to the beach is nearer ten minutes than five, for all but the most athletic! Jonny
