Secluded and private with gorgeous mountain views, this home is located midway between Ouray and Ridgway. Serene pastures surround this home and its historic outbuildings, often occupied the local elk herd!
The home has been renovated and beautifully decorated with western and woodsy furniture, lamps and accessories. Custom window coverings adorn the majority of the windows in the home.
The main floor of the home has a great kitchen with a rustic flair and new, modern appliances like a stainless steel fridge and gas stove; a dining table that comfortably seats 6; and two bedrooms with a queen bed in each (both have the same furniture and are the same size). There is also a full bath with tub/shower combination on this floor, and a washer and dryer. The living room is richly furnished, tastefully decorated, and comfortable with a fireplace and flat screen TV.
The upstairs is a beautifully furnished master bedroom with a king bed in a log frame. Double doors open onto a small deck for stargazing. The spacious master bath includes a deep, jetted tub, two sinks, and walk-in shower.

This property is managed by Ouray Vacation Rentals. We offer the largest selection of vacation rental properties in Ouray County!
ABOUT THE AREA: You will want to spend several days in beautiful Ouray County. Ouray, which is known as the "Switzerland of America," is nestled in a small valley with 360-degree views of 12,000-14,000 mountains. Ridgway, nicknamed the "Gateway to the San Juans," is just 10 miles from Ouray and is well-known as the place where the John Wayne movie "True Grit" was filmed. Many of the movie set's buildings are still used today by local businesses. These two historic towns offer a variety of activities: restaurants, shops, museums, galleries, hot springs pools, jeep rentals, hiking, fishing and boating -- the list goes on and on! Day trips to Silverton, Telluride and Durango are fun as well.
Ouray is also often called "The Jeeping Capital of the World" because of its many trails through the high country (rated easy to rugged), popular for 2-wheel and 4-wheel off road vehicles.
Golf is available at beautiful Divide Ranch Golf Club located on Log Hill Mesa just above Ridgway, offering panoramic mountain views. Telluride and Montrose also have golf courses.
Ouray and Ridgway both offer local markets, and you can find larger stores like City Market, Safeway, Target and Walmart in Montrose, a flat, easy drive 35 miles from Ouray, 25 miles from Ridgway.
No matter how long you decide to stay, you will find yourself wanting to come back again and again to Ouray County, one of the most beautiful places on earth!
We enjoyed our stay at this old farm house... There were numerous sightings of deer under the lean to sheds, and we saw elk come down the mountain one night, also a red fox was sunbathing on one of the tin roofs.... The place was more than was expected, as the sheets were very nice high thread count, extremely nice... All the appliances looked brand new, and for the most part the furnishings were better than expected...if you like star gazing, you absolutely can not beat this place...!!!! Also it is extremely quiet here with very little traffic on this road... You're halfway between Ouray & Ridgway on a level road, and close to Orvis hot springs(clothing optional).... We plan on staying here next year, as we've staying at some places in Ouray, and this is much nicer staying on a big ranch....the only thing we didn't like, is when we had to leave, enjoy....
We stayed at the Elk Valley Ranch for 5 nights. The home is a remodeled older house. The pictures are accurate but there are some maintenance problems we experienced. There is no air conditioning in the house so it's necessary to leave the windows open (which is nice for cool mountain air) except that almost every window in the house has holes in the screens. This creates an awful insect problem. There were dead insects in every window sill. At night it was a choice of roasting or having insects flying all over. Also the linens and towels were old and tired. The sheets on the master bed had holes in them and were thin and smelly with age. The towels had bleach spots on them and the rugs on the floors were old and tired too The whole place could really use a good cleaning. Including the windows. We liked the location. About 10 minutes from Ouray. It was peaceful and quiet but maybe not as scenic. We would have really loved this place if there hadn't been the problems mentioned above. Hopefully those can be remedied.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful old ranch house, it has been updated with all the modern amenities ...Very very quite, much better than staying in town, and there was plenty of deer hanging out in the out buildings.... It was nice to able to ride horses on the ranch, much nicer than a trail ride, we would definitely stay here again when we visit Ouray...!!!!
Our stay at this absolutely wonderful cabin was indeed a magical piece of heaven...the view from the back decks and upper decks are second to none.the home itself has been completely remodeled and has been furnished with high end furnishings, and the bed mattresses and linens were extremely comfortable!!! We saw a lot of deer and on one day there was a herd of about 50 elk in the back pasture, what a beautiful sight this was...this ranch is only 5 minutes to either Ouray or Ridgway and is very quite at night and has very good star gazing...we would highly recommend and always stay AGAIN when we visit the town of Ouray..
We stayed here for family vacation for one week. We have 4 kids ages younger than 14. Easy check-in. Beth, property mgmt company, was wonderful to us! Home was well equipped with blankets, kitchen appliances, washer/dryer and dishes. Nice location. Close enough to town for quick run, but far enough out so that you aren't feeling like you are staying in town. All beds were comfortable. House was clean. Upon arrival discovered that wifi was not available. Beth remedied with Verizon 4G hotspot within 24 hours. If this is important, as it was to us, confirm with owner before reservation. Seems like there is an insect issue at the home. Many bugs would get in through the windows or screen doors. We did see Orkin come out and spray. Also, on the second day, discovered a little mouse was trapped in sticky paper in the kitchen. This did not bother us, but need to mention it as it may bother others and influence rental decision. Beths co-worker promptly came out that night and took care of it. Only used the tub upstairs once as it leaked a little into the downstairs. Decided to avoid it. Upstairs master bedroom got a little warm at night, but was remedied with box fan as the AC was only for short-term use. Did not want to leave screen door open at night due to the insect issue. Would be nice if there was a tall fan as the bed is high off the floor. We balanced a box fan on top of a suitcase and it worked OK. Loved the "hairy" chair. I need to get one of these! Also liked the rocking chairs outside. Since the mouse and bugs do not bother us, we would stay here again when in Ouray. But if these bother you, then probably not the optimal place to stay for very long stay.
