I am an Entomology professor at Montana State University (MSU) and live in Bozeman, Montana. I raised all my children here and taught freshwater ecology at Lone Lake adjacent to this vacation home when we lived there. My husband is a retired instructor in the MSU College of Business and we were married on the grounds of our home. It is an ideal location for a wedding and reception. Together with our children and the neighbors we have been exploring this area through skiing, wildlife observation, including birdwatching for 35 years. This was the first house on the road and the home where Doug and Lynn grew up, hence the road name Douglynn. We bought the home from the parents of Doug and Lynn.
Florence Dunkel purchased this house in 1977
We chose this property because we wanted the feeling of being in the wilderness. In fact one step inside of our south facing woods on the property and you feel like you are in a natural cathedral. Proceed a little farther and you are at the edge of a lake bordered in the summer with the magnificent lotus leaves and flowers. The woods are always changing and will share its beauty with those who explore. It is peaceful, relaxing, and a joyous place to be. You can enjoy the warmth of a fireplace while in the cozy eating area watching wildlife or in the great room. You can relax inside the home, in the screened porch area, patio, or outside on the lawn. For the active family there is a level playing field for badminton, croquet, bocce, touch football or soccer. Most of the rooms have been furnished in earth tones to keep the rustic feel. The home has a serene, natural feel where there is a continuity between the outside and the inside. The home is away from it all, yet close to everything. We would like to welcome families and groups of no more than 12 enjoy our home. This is a peaceful neighborhood and we want to keep our neighbors happy. Therefore, we will not accept requests for events such as weddings, receptions, batchlorette parties, etc.
This clearing in the woods is nestled in Lone Lake Park Reserve with miles of hiking, cross-country, and interpreted nature, trails, tennis courts, picnic pavilion and children's jungle gym. The property is located within 20 minutes of Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, Mall of America, and downtown Minneapolis, and Lake Minnetonka by car. We are within walking distance of Shady Oak Beach which is a kid-friendly, life-guarded lake with a mini-water park, concession stand, volleyball, and changing rooms. Bryant Lake is a 5 minute drive and offers free entrance, parking, and beach. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, just to name a few, are available to rent. There are concession stands, restrooms, and an indoor pavilion to rent for entertaining large groups,
The location is nice and the yard beautiful, but much is left to be desired about this rental.
The house is outdated (think Brady Bunch furnishings) and in need of repairs, including the back railing from the porch to the yard. When we arrived there were 4 broken dining room chairs set against the wall with a note on them from a previous tenant, dated 2 months prior. The silver ware drawer had only 3 teaspoons, even thought a list of utensils was prominently placed in the drawer listing 8.
The cleaning crew needs better supervision as we found toenail clippings between the sheets in one of the guest rooms.
The payment is odd. Florence doesn't like PayPal so requires you send in a certified check or money order, plus a substantial security deposit. I had to wait an unusually long time for acknowledgement of my check, and over a month for my security deposit to be returned.
Overall, not the perfect rental for a few different reasons.
My husband and I hosted our three children, their spouses and young families for the weekend. The residence was very roomy with lots of options for sleeping. The kitchen was well stocked for doing our own cooking. We had lots of room for dining. But our favorite was the secluded yard, rich with wildlife! The 3 & 4 year olds loved running from window to window to watch the wild turkey strut through the yard! The Lone Tree nature area was only 1/2 mile away and had awesome play equipment and lovely wooded trails.
Myself and seven other male friends rented this house in September for a golf/NFL football weekend. The house fit our needs perfectly. All 8 of us had our own beds and the large, secluded property gave us a ton of space to throw the football around and hang out outside. The weather was not great so we did not take advantage of the screened in porch area but it would be great in the summer. The house allowed us to make most of our meals, which we ate around the large dining room table. There is not much within walking distance, but MOA was less than a fifteen minute drive, as well as Uptown. Plenty of parking at the house and quick access to major freeways. Florence and Marie were easy and pleasant to deal with. When we arrived, Marie was waiting with the key and answered any questions we had. I would recommend this property to any larger group looking to stay together as oppose to a hotel. The best features of this house is the property it is on, and the number of people it can sleep. Definitely would recommend to any group seeking a rental home in the Minneapolis area. Clean, comfortable, and convenient rental property in the Minneapolis Metro area. Absolutely would stay here again if/when I come back with a large group.
My sisters and I rented this house for our families and our parents to convene in MPLS for our parents 50th anniversary. The house was perfect for our group; lots of room to spread out and relax, plenty of little creatures and greenery to satisfy the nature lovers, and not so fancy that we had to constantly worry about damaging something.
The kitchen was nicely laid out and easy to work in and there are more than enough dishes and supplies to suffice for 10+. The beds and linens were all very comfortable and impeccably clean!
Our favorite spot was the screened in porch. Dinner on the porch is a must, if the weather permits! If your lucky the wild turkey might be walking around in the yard, or one of the several bunnies that we saw. At night, 2 or 3 little frogs would sit on the big glass picture window in the front hall and dine on all of the moths flying around in the light. The kids didn't even think about TV with that going on.
There is even a really nice basketball hoop, that, combined with the extra large driveway, made for a great place for the kids to play.
My parents both said that this was the best trip of their life! We all would come back and rent this house in a heartbeat, and most likely will be back here in the coming years.
Florence and Marie were very cordial and easy to work with by the way, much more so than many other property owners/managers I've encountered before.
We spent one week here for a small family gathering of 7 adults and 2 children under age 4. It was a perfect fit! Our favorite aspect of this rental was the wide variety of spaces. We could all be together when we wanted, but we also had plenty of room for separate activities, so we never felt like we were on top of each other. The kids (and the young at heart) enjoyed the toys and games which were provided in the lower level, and the short carpeted stairs were not a concern even with a toddler. Several adults spent time working in the office area and greatly appreciated the FAST wireless internet connection. We brought lawn games and very much enjoyed spending time in the spacious yard. The screened in porch was fantastic and received daily use.
The property is nicely secluded and tucked away—we almost forgot how conveniently close the dining, shopping, and entertainment are! The owner and property manager were both very helpful and pleasant to speak with. The one request we made was quickly accommodated, and care was taken to ensure we had everything we needed before and during our stay. We would definitely stay here again, and will strongly recommend the home to others.
This home worked out beautifully for our 3 day family get together. It was spacious, clean, and private. We loved the screened in porch. Our young grandchildren loved all the space they had to play. We greatly enjoyed the yard and swing. This was our first VRBO experience as a family and it was entirely positive. We would definitely stay here again. This house was a great find for us!
