Santa Fe House Rental Photos and Description

1600 square foot Southwest Style Casa - 2 Bedrooms

Permit #: 16-00135770

Casa Viga Grande (The House-with-the-Massive-Beams) is tucked into a historically authentic and quiet neighborhood above Canyon Road --Santa Fe's prestigious art and gallery district. Winding, narrow streets are reminiscent of Old Europe.

This air-conditioned 1600 square foot Southwest Style Casa offers all the conveniences and charm of contemporary Santa Fe. The spaciousness of high, massive, viga-beam ceilings provide a counterpoint to the rich detail of decor. Everywhere, fine original art and thoughtfully placed artifacts meet the eye.

One uniquely appealing aspect of Viga Grande is the layout. Two completely separate and spacious bedroom suites each have their own private stone-tiled baths. As such, two couples find the equivalency between suites to be appealing. While one suite is more spacious internally; the other opens out onto its own private patio.

The well appointed kitchen features state-of-the-art appliances; double french doors unite the dining area with a second very private patio and gated garden.

The two bathrooms are beautiful and modern, with high-end tile and fixtures. The master bath has two sinks, a separate double-headed shower, and a large jacuzzi-style tub.

A museum-brick drive greets guests as they enter the property --which is virtually hidden behind a hand-forged iron gate. There is off-street parking for two-to-three vehicles.

Once in the famed Canyon Road gallery district of Santa Fe, the 3 minute drive (or 15 minute walk) to Viga Grande begins by following the historically soulful and nourishing Acequia Madre waterway (lovingly referred to by locals as 'The Mother Ditch') and then winding uphill through some of Santa Fe's most charming residential areas.

A free shuttle is also available on Canyon Road, making it easy to explore many other locations in Santa Fe -- including the Rail Yard District.

Totally modern acommodations with an old world feel

  • 5 of 5

This Casita was fully outfitted with beautiful, high quality furnishings from the bed linens and kitchen appliances, to the leather living room set and outdoor patio seating. Our musician sons thoroughly enjoyed sharing their playlists via the whole house entertainment system.

Beds were comfortable, bathrooms were spotless and had both lovely and large tiled showers; with the master having dual vanities and a very large jacuzzi tub. The kitchen was beautiful and had the capacity for gourmet cooking. However, we advise that while in Santa Fe, one should avail themselves of the vast culinary experiences available. Laundry facilities made our stay even more convenient and comfortable.

In addition to the home and grounds being beautiful, we felt that we could really relax and live like Santa Feans. The private, winding caminos and traditional structures added to the sense that you were in another time and some other place than a hotel room on the road.

Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. We cannot give any higher recommendation and the cost was really nominal considering that you are in a spacious home in the old town. Do yourself a favor and don't think twice- just book it!

Lovely vacation experience

This was our second stay at Casa Viga Grande and we loved it just as much as the first. It's quiet, spacious, private, and has all the conveniences of a well appointed home.

Very nice place!

  • 5 of 5

The Casa was extremely clean, very well furnished and comfortable. The owner responded to our questions almost immediately. The area is quiet and quaint. When we go back to Santa Fe, we will definitely stay there again. I would 100 percent recommend.

Beautiful Casa

  • 5 of 5

I stayed, with my wife and 2 friends for a week. The house is very comfortable and beautifully furnished with everything very modern. Great kitchen and the bedrooms were quite comfy and quiet. The house is on a very quiet street in the historic section of town. The first day we walked out into town and back through back streets and past historic Johnny's Cash store, a mini mart like place owned by a long term Santa Fe resident in his 80's with his son running the place. Lots of conversation. Folks are friendly. I highly recommend this lovely Casa.

Our Favorite Casita in Historic Area of Santa Fe

  • 5 of 5

We have traveled to Santa Fe probably forty times in the past several decades, and have stayed in numerous places, including hotels, resorts, condos, and private homes. This home is by far our favorite! We recently visited Santa Fe with another couple, sharing this home. The accommodations were perfect for us. Two bedrooms, one with a queen log bed, kiva fireplace and a larger bathroom, and the other with a king bed, a private patio, a smaller but very nice bathroom, and everyone was happy. The finishes in the place were authentic and top notch: wood floors, porcelain tile, polished plaster walls, heavy vigas, two kiva fireplaces, brick driveway, two patios (one with a firepit), outdoor furnishings, original artwork, and a gourmet kitchen with high end appliances and everything anyone would ever need to make a full course dinner. We always enjoy visiting our favorite restaurants when in Santa Fe, so we did not take the opportunity to use this great kitchen other than making our simple breakfasts. The location of this place was great for us, although for some, it might be a slight drawback. It is up a hill just south of Canyon Road. We enjoyed the 15 minute walk down though the winding streets of the very old, picturesque historic area. There is a shuttle at the bottom of Canyon Road that will take visitors to the Plaza and Railyard District, but we prefer walking. (I might add that we could have taken our car, but our experience has been that parking around Santa Fe is sometimes a problem.) Tired at the end of the day after walking all over the city, the walk back up the hill to the home was a slight challenge (and it should be noted that walking after sunset would be out of the questions, as there are no streetlights in this area and one could easily get lost!). Our trek was rewarded by relaxing in this beautiful setting.

Santa Fe Get-away

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights with friends and enjoyed every minute. The casita is beautiful and comfortable and enhanced our Santa Fe experience. The hot water was plentiful for four showers every morning. We walked to Canyon Road every day to experience the art galleries. There are also several great places to eat along Canyon, but we drove if we chose to eat at restaurants farther away. We would definitely stay here again.
