Overview

About the property

1600 square foot Southwest Style Casa - 2 Bedrooms

Permit #: 17-00143311

Casa Viga Grande (The House-with-the-Massive-Beams) is tucked into a historically authentic and quiet neighborhood above Canyon Road --Santa Fe's prestigious art and gallery district. Winding, narrow streets are reminiscent of Old Europe.

This air-conditioned 1600 square foot Southwest Style Casa offers all the conveniences and charm of contemporary Santa Fe. The spaciousness of high, massive, viga-beam ceilings provide a counterpoint to the rich detail of decor. Everywhere, fine original art and thoughtfully placed artifacts meet the eye.

One uniquely appealing aspect of Viga Grande is the layout. Two completely separate and spacious bedroom suites each have their own private stone-tiled baths. As such, two couples find the equivalency between suites to be appealing. While one suite is more spacious internally; the other opens out onto its own private patio.

The well appointed kitchen features state-of-the-art appliances; double french doors unite the dining area with a second very private patio and gated garden.

The two bathrooms are beautiful and modern, with high-end tile and fixtures. The master bath has two sinks, a separate double-headed shower, and a large jacuzzi-style tub.

A museum-brick drive greets guests as they enter the property --which is virtually hidden behind a hand-forged iron gate. There is off-street parking for two-to-three vehicles.

Once in the famed Canyon Road gallery district of Santa Fe, the 3 minute drive (or 15 minute walk) to Viga Grande begins by following the historically soulful and nourishing Acequia Madre waterway (lovingly referred to by locals as 'The Mother Ditch') and then winding uphill through some of Santa Fe's most charming residential areas.

A free shuttle is also available on Canyon Road, making it easy to explore many other locations in Santa Fe -- including the Rail Yard District.

Wonderful property

  • 5 of 5

Our Santa Fe vacation was a wonderful experience and staying at Viga Grande just topped it off.

The home met all of our expectations and the photos are a very accurate depiction of the property. Although we did not cook ( too many good restaurants ) the kitchen seemed very well appointed.

Canyon road is just a two or three minute drive with great places to eat. The drive to the plaza only took us less than ten minutes.

We would definitely stay at Viga Grande again and would recommend it to others.

I enjoyed the home and the location. Very relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

Although we enjoyed our stay, the outdoor furniture is not comfortable or inviting, which is quite a loss. The home needs to be much more generously stocked with toiletries and paper products (bath soap, tissues, TP, napkins). As an example, we were only provided with one small bar of soap for the shower for an entire week. It's highly inadequate & just coming across as a cheap.

Owner's Response: Hi Gail, Thank you so much for writing a review and we always take our guests' recommendations to heart. However, regarding the outdoor furniture, we have never had a mention of it being uncomfortable during the past 4 years. It is important to recognize that it is designed for all weather, year-round use and therefore can not be to cushy. It needs to be capable of holding up to the elements and good for sitting around the gas-fired fire pit. We always provide toiletries (not actually usual in a vacation rental) and should you have requested more, we would have brought some by. We believe that there is always adequate toilet paper, tissues and shampoo but I can agree that the four bars of organic soap that we provide, may not be enough for a week. Thanks again for staying with us and all the best, Richard

Great well appointed house!

Beautifully decorated and stocked with everything you need in the kitchen! Enjoyed the gas fire pit and spacious master suite. Close to town, but would be great if it had a cut through path to walk to canyon road, but gave us extra exercise.

Well maintained

  • 4 of 5

Pictures are extremely accurate. Nicely equipped and maintained. Only two miles from Plaza.

Radiant heat is the reason for not being a five star. Thermostat set too warm for us, and we did not want to learn how to use the air conditioners.

Highly recommend this place, but let management know ahead of time your temp preferences.

Near perfection

  • 5 of 5

Casa Viga Grande is lovely, with charming décor and the most fully furnished rental kitchen we have ever seen! Also a six burner gas Wolf stove that stole my heart. Do not be put off by the narrow, winding dirt roads leading to the casa (GPS will get you there) -- this is part of its Santa Fe charm and is actually a much desired feature. (Yes, Santa Feans treasure their dirt streets over mundane asphalt.) The casa is just blocks from Canyon Road and we spent much of two days exploring galleries and getting our "art fix." We spent most evening dining and wining in -- enjoying the delightful dining and living area. It was too cool to make use of the several outdoor seating areas, but they would be wonderful on warm evenings. The owners have provided a great deal of information on local attractions as well as magazines and guides to meet the needs of visitors. The area is quiet and secluded with nice vegetation and tiny garden views from all windows. I cannot imagine a more carefully thought-out rental property -- every need was anticipated -- even to flashlights in drawers of bedside tables and labels on light fixtures. And a so-called "junk" drawer with all sorts of items so beautifully organized is would put Martha Stewart to shame. I photographed it to replicate at my home. The four in our party cannot wait to return.

Beautiful and quiet home

  • 5 of 5

Casa Viga Grande is a clean, spacious and lovely two bedroom home tucked into a peaceful neighborhood in Santa Fe. With an easy walk to Canyon Road one can enjoy a dinner out at the Compound Restaurant, tea at the Teahouse or simply take in the wonderful art galleries.

The management team at Casa Viga Grande is superb. I had a few things I wanted to complete my culinary needs in an already well appointed kitchen and with one phone call my needs were met in a friendly and timely manner.

I look forward to staying at Casa Grande on my return visit to Santa Fe!

I highly recommend this home to all travelers.
