A Little Place in WV has everything you need for a quiet getaway stay. Beautifully sited on a secluded 5 acre wooded lot the hilltop location offers a graceful view across gently rolling hills to Cacapon Mountain in the near distance. Fog often divides the peaks and valleys in the early morning. Sun, moon, and stars rise to greet you, warming your morning or silvering your night. This cabin is a great place for a romantic getaway or an intimate weekend with your family. Secluded and completely surrounded by woods the site provides privacy in an open outdoor setting. Small groups of friends will enjoy the chance to hangout and visit in a beautiful setting--quiet, secluded and peaceful. The deck and one balcony look east to Cacapon Mountain with rolling hills between. A second balcony looks straight into the trees. The two bedroom cabin sleeps six comfortably. Recently renovated, the charming mix of colors, furnishings and natural light provide a warm cozy atmosphere. A gas fireplace will take the chill off an autumn evening and add an intimate feel to the living room. There are three TVs and DVD players, satellite TV, and a library of DVDs to keep you entertained. The cabin has free WiFi to keep you connected. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave, pots and pans, dishes and glasses. There is a washer and dryer in the basement. You can enjoy your meals inside or on the deck with views across the valley. The master bedroom suite has a queen size bed and sitting area. There are two balconies with wonderful cross breezes. The cabin has central air but you probably won't need it. The second bedroom has a double bunk bed. There is a futon in the basement den. Plenty of sheets and towels are available.
I am in my mid-60s. I love walking outdoors and in recent years I have hiked in the Anapurna region in Nepal, been to Machu Pichu in Peru and most recently traveled the Colorado River for 21 days by rubber raft through the Grand Canyon. I own a small business in Baltimore and love visiting A Little Place in WV.
Sam Austell purchased this cabin in 2009
Several years ago my wife and I accidentally passed through Berkeley Springs. We had lunch at Tari's, looked around and decided to come back. We made several weekend trips staying in cabins in the area. We got lucky and found our cabin one very dreary but enchanting day in November. It was well built and had a wonderful view. But it was a mess. Nothing that a little bit of destruction and then construction couldn't take care of. I love a project. I hope you will enjoy the serenity and beauty of A Little Place in WV.
We had a very nice and pleasant family retreat there. Everything was ready and working as advertised. Many options for hiking nearby. A peaceful and quiet place where we can further integrate with nature!
Our stay started with a snafu but Sam, Debbie, and Larry quickly came to our rescue and made things more than right. The house is beautiful. Loved the master suite upstairs and waking to the gorgeous view out the windows. It was so nice starting our mornings on the deck with our coffee and ending the day on the deck with our Diet Cokes! We would definitely recommend this house to our family and friends. Thanks, Sam, for your wonderful hospitality!
Thanks so much for a great stay! We really enjoyed the restfulness of being in the cabin in the woods. Everything worked out really well!
We had a fantastic weekend at the cabin! The reviews were spot-on, the cabin is very clean & comfortable with plenty of amenities. The deck/view overlooking the valley is very nice & relaxing. We did lots of hiking (Cacapon State Park trails, Paw Paw tunnel - through & over on the return) during the day, we also visited downtown Berkeley Springs to visit shops, but we spent dinners at the cabin w/plenty of quality time just talking around the evening campfire.
The location was perfect for us because 2 of our adult daughters (who live & work in Baltimore MD) were able to join us. They both said the ~ 2 hour drive for them was very easy & reasonable.
We had a fantastic time on our weekend trip. The kids absolutely loved the dirt roads leading up to the home, they thought it was like a roller coaster ride. The Panorama Overlook on the way in is spectacular. Just wish the restaurant there was still open - instead we went into Berkeley Springs a couple of times and had lunch at the Cottage Cafe and dinner at Tari's, which were both great. The house itself is in a quiet spot and has an incredible view looking out the back porch. Only downside was that some neighbors through the woods were cursing loudly, like a verbal altercation of some sorts, for a solid 15 minutes during one morning. That was a little unnerving, but no harm was done. That said, the home is still a really a great value for its proximity to DC/Baltimore region and it's an easy getaway.
I wanted to take my boyfriend somewhere secluded, private, and in nature for his Birthday. Well this place went above and beyond!!! We were ready to move in! When we got there we were in awe by the view from the deck and sat out there for an hour before even going in. The view is to die for! We saw ample amounts of deer during our stay and enjoyed the fact that you cannot hear anything but nature! Completely private. The second you walk inside you immediately realize how clean the place is! It is spotless! There is a beautiful view from the kitchen and living room as well through sliding glass doors. The whole upstairs is the master bedroom where right beside the very comfy bed is another gorgeous view! What a beautiful thing to wake up to in the morning. We NEVER got tired of the view! We enjoyed watching the movies that they had there and I loved cooking dinner and breakfast in the FULLY equipped kitchen! They even had wifi which was an awesome touch! We enjoyed hiking at Great Cacapon State Park, going to the overlook, eating at Lot 12, and having breakfast at Panorama! Loved the little shops in town as well! We cannot wait to stay here again.. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back! HIGHLY RECOMMEND to EVERYONE! I will be bringing my family next time!
Berkeley Springs and the surrounding area are a mecca for visitors in the mid-Atlantic. Voted one of the top ten small art communities, there are galleries and The Ice House Community Art Center with live performances. There are two large antique stores and a number of small ones in town for those surprising finds. There are a number of restaurants in a range of styles and prices. Our favorites are Tari's and Panarama at the Peak. The Creamery for a quick sandwich and the Country Inn for a fine breakfast should be on your list. There are a couple of spas in town for the full range of pamper yourself delights. Our choice is the Atasia Spa. We have taken many wonderful walks in the area. The C&O canal is accessible at Paw Paw and Hancock. There is a beautiful trail from the parking lot at the Cacapon State Park scenic overlook. Its easy too. The Star Theatre shows recent movies Friday, Saturday and Sunday and has the best popcorn in three states made in a classic antique popcorn machine. Tari's, the Fairfax Coffee House and Earth Dog Cafe usually have live music one night a week. By the way you will get great coffee at the coffee house and the barbeque at Earth Dog is terrific. There are near-by Civil War sites at Gettysburg, Antietam and Sharpsburg. Skiing is at Whitetail. If you like the ponies the head on over to Charlestown. Then there is the cabin. A Little Place in WV is a lovely, peaceful place to just enjoy being alive. Let the sun warm you in the morning or the breeze cool you in the afternoon while reading a book on the deck. Three TVs, satellite and a library of DVDs are available for your enjoyment. Free WiFi is on site to keep up with the other world while you enjoy the real world. There are old fashion board games, remember them. If there is a chill in the air, the gas fireplace will warm you with its romantic glow. There is also a fire pit outside.

Part of the beauty of our cabin is that is a mile and a half down a dirt road. For that reason we do not rent the cabin January thru part of March. We welcome guests in late November and December. Should you feel uncomfortable with foul weather predictions please call me to discuss the situation. We want you to be comfortable and will be happy to give a full refund should winter weather threaten.
