The house and farm were a wedding present to my
grandparents when it was built in 1915 and has been in the
family since then. It was an operating farm until the mid 1980's
and is now used for recreation.
Richard Wm. King purchased this house in 1915
We have retained the property in the family due to its
uniqueness. It is manage as a certified family forest. It
has an orchard, prairie restoration and wildlife food plot.
The house has a unique setting, nestled in a mature oak
forest. You can enjoy the beauty of nature, take advantage of the recreational opportunities or explore Dixon's quaint downtown and many historic sites.
Thank you so much for the use of your home & property in Dixon, IL! My family and I had a very pleasant, relaxing stay. We made so many great memories together. Thank you for thinking of nearly everything we could have needed. The front porch was our favorite spot! Makes me want to add a screened in front porch to our house. We would not hesitate to recommend or rebook your property in the future if we get the chance.
We spent the Labor Day weekend at the house. Overall, it met our needs. We had a small family gathering/picnic and enjoyed sitting out in the back of the property watching deer and had a campfire. A perfect setting for that.
Would like to offer a few comments about the house itself: the inside of the house was very clean upon arrival but the outside drive and walkways looks like no one had been there in quite some time. Full of leaves and debris which we had to sweep before our company arrived.
The code provided via email for the internet access didn't work - turns out it was not the same was what was on the receiver itself. We did get it to work eventually. I read that someone previously commented about the poor condition and slowness of the coffee maker. That is still an issue. It was dirty and took over 30 minutes of sputtering to produce a half pot of coffee. The water spigot on the kitchen sink is either faulty or full of sediment and water sprays in several directions during use. The tub/shower in the downstairs bath is in need of updating, it is old and rusty, and only after getting in the shower did I discover there was no bar soap provided.
I understand this is a very old, historic house, and it truly has a great deal of charm. In my view, attending to these few minor things could make the experience much more enjoyable for your future guests.
This was our 2nd time to stay in th home. I grew up in the area and this is a great way to spend a week while visiting family. The property is in a quite neighborhood and the back yard is your own private park. There were noumerous deer, fawns and even a large buck with full rack. We spent our mornings drinking coffee and enjoying the wildlife. There is a back patio with grill, chairs, and table. We had everything we needed. Great stay!
This home was perfect for our week long visit for a family wedding. Plenty of space, nicely decorated and fully set up kitchen. We had the deer visit each morning as we sat on the patio with coffee. Located near enough to town but the was tucked away in a great wooded area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the King Family Homestead. We loved sitting on the front porch in the morning eating breakfast. We also made use of the huge backyard, the grill, and the fire pit for our mini reunion. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of essentials such as coffee filters and paper towels. Overall, we had a great experience there and would definitely stay again
We had a wonderful time at your house in Dixon. It was perfect for our family to be all together. Our 3 year old grandson was excited to find a bed that was his size (the short twin bed)! The large yard and all of the trees are beautiful and made it very private. My favorite was the large screened front porch. I spent a lot of time rocking out there. The only problem we had was that we could not connect to WiFi. It was not a necessity but an inconvenience.
