Volterra - Fantastic 2 Bed Apartment - Stunning Location - Great Family Location

Bedrooms 2
Space 645 sq. ft.
Property type apartment

About the property

Large 2 Bed Apartment - Sleeps 6 - Pool - Wonderful Views - Full Air Con!

What a location! This first floor apartment is in a small gated development of a re-constructed 9th century Borgho. Located on a hilltop beautifully restored 'Podere' and with magnificent views towards the medieval walled mountain top city of Volterra, the apartment is comfortably furnished with exposed wooden beams throughout. The master bedroom is on the mezzanine level and has an ensuite shower room. Air con has recently been placed into this room. The lower living areas are open plan with lounge/dining (sofa bed), modern kitchen area, and french doors to the furnished loggia (balcony) with superb views. There is a spacious twin bedded room on this level with well appointed ensuite shower room. Outside there is a garden with communal pool, sun terrace and pool house with wc/shower facilities and of course those wonderful views. The apartment is air-conditioned and also has 2 fans. Local village with all amenities within a 5 minute drive. Driving distance to Sienna/Florence/Pisa/Lucca etc. Highly recommended

Volterra: Volterra is a wonderful city with excellent restaurants serving local Tuscan specialities. The Guarnacci Museum should not be missed for it's fantastic collection of Etryscan artefact collections. It is rumoured to have the best collection in the world! The Etruscan Baths, Aqueducts and Amphitheatre still stand and are worth a visit. The Civic Art Gallery and the Museum of Sacred Art also worth a look. Do visit the tourist office as there are lots of cultural events celebrating everything from classical music to art, folklore to gastronomy and of course the infamous annual Volterra Theatro Festival. Surrounding Volterra, besides the magnificent countryside, there are lots of ancient monasteries and Roman ruins.

We really enjoyed our stay in July this year.

From booking to paying, through to preparing for the trip, everything was really smooth. Finding the apartment was pretty straightforward and directions were great. The apartment itself was ideal for our needs, with two young children. The location is ideal for touring around Tuscany and we enjoyed day-trips to places like Siena, Florence, San Gimignano and Lucca, as well as spending time closer to home in Volterra.

The pool area was great and the kids loved every minute there. The days were hot and the only thing we sometimes could have done with around the pool was a bit more shade, but a nice problem to have when you’re used to the weather of Scottish summertime back home! Just another reason to get back into the pool, I guess.

The apartment was excellent and had everything you could need for a relaxing break. The only challenge we had was the heat at night – the downstairs room (which the kids used) had its own air-conditioning unit which kept it cool, and the main kitchen/dining area was the same with another unit to keep it cool in there. We used the upstairs room which was beyond the reach of the air-con so could get pretty warm at night, although two large fans in the property helped up there. The apartment also has satellite TV but to be honest it was never on during our stay so can’t comment on that.

Overall, we would certainly recommend it as a great base from which to explore Tuscany, or as a great location for a relaxing break in this beautiful part of Italy.

Great location - convinient and well equiped appartment - great swimming pool - very good service

  • 4 of 5

Family of 4 - Stayed for 8 nights - the location is not far from Tuscany major attractions. the Apartment can accommodate up to 8 people.

It has almost every appliances needed - so no need to carry. The swimming pool is big and clean and not loaded with many guests.

Small issue we had was handled and solved quickly to our sanctification by the letting agents.

Would strongly recommend it.

Good appartment in excellent area

  • 4 of 5

I can only recommend this appartment. The appartment it self is nothing special. It has everything you need and nothing more.

However the pool area is super and the views and the area as such are fantastic.

We will surely rent this again next time we are going to Toscana.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your kind words Mr T. I am delighted your holiday went well and how could it not in such wonderful surroundings. The apartment, in my opinion, is what it says on the site and the rate is perfect. I agree with you about the pool - it is lovely and the views while swimming are just fab. I will look forward to hearing from you another time. Best wishes Janet

Amazing property in an amazing location

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. Apartment had everything you could think of including entertainment system and candles for the balcony. Spotlessly clean. Very easy to travel to Pisa/Siena etc. Also within 30 minutes of fabulous beach. Directions and owners hand book with suggested day trips/places of interest and places to eat were 100% accurate and a fantastic help. Would definitely go back again and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Brilliant holiday in amazing location

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in this property for 10 days over Easter. As it was our first time visiting Italy we didn't know what the standard of accommodation would be like. I am happy to report that we were pleasantly surprised. This apartment is a real gem, spotless, lovely décor and really comfortable, in a beautiful location, close to Volterra. There was a really informative/accurate handbook in the apartment, detailing how everything worked and outlining all the areas of interest within easy reach. Will definitely be back!

Exceeded expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Spent 10 wonderful days in this apartment. The apartment was perfectly equipped and comfortable to handle 4-6 and we were a party of 5. So close to Florence, Pisa and Siena with those gems of Volterra and San Giminano at your door step. The apartment is close enough to the coast to allow travel on those days that the sun does not come out. Marina di Bibona, San Vincenzo and Barrati within 40-60 mins travel. Owners have provided a super library of books and maps for Tuscany and also provided super documentation and itineraries on both the locale and province to spend your days when not by the pool. Highly recommended and will return!

This lovely apartment is one of a small number of privately owned properties which form part of a reconstructed 9th century Borgho or hill top farming community. It is ideally located for exploring Tuscany and its stunning countryside. . It is just minutes drive from the well equipped little village of Saline di Volterra for all your day to day needs with its shops, restaurants and bars. 15 minutes’ drive will take to the wonderful medieval hilltop city of Volterra, which can be viewed from the Borgho. Volterra is a quieter alternative to the bustling tourist centre of San Gimignano. There is such of lot of immense historical interest to view in this city. Apart from its locally quarried alabaster it is known for its prominence in Etruscan history. The immediate countryside around the apartment is absolutely stunning at all times of the year.

Short drives will take you to the renowned cities of San Gimignano - 40 mins and Siena approximately 1 Hr. Of course one cannot miss out on the Leaning Tower at Pisa - just under an hour away, and the stunning and historical Fierenze (Florence) just 1.5 hours drive away. A little further afield is Bologna at 2 hours drive, and Roma at 3.5 Hours drive.

The nearest beaches of Cecina, La California and Bibbona are about 30 to 40 minutes’ drive, but there are further beautiful beaches and seaside village less than an hours drive away. We recommend San Vincenzo and the beautiful Barati with it's horse shoe beach and active Etruscan archaeological dig close by. In addition the Port of Piombino is 1.15 hours drive and is the departure point for the island of Elba which is well worth a day trip - or even longer. The city of La Spezia is approx 1.15 hours drive and is the gateway to the stunning La Cinque Terre (the 5 lands).

7 Kilometers from the apartment lies the hill top town of Lajatico – home to none other than Andrea Bocelli. You can visit the town and the open air amphitheater ‘Teatro Del Silenzio’– the location of his annual July concerts

Should you want to play a little golf then San Miniato has a good course and is about 40 minutes drive away should you feel like an 18 hole walk. Highly recommended for a holiday during any time of the year. Last but not least remember this apartment is on the edge of Chianti country and an hours drive will have you in the middle of the rolling Chianti Hills between Florence and Siena.

Wine and food lovers alike will not be disappointed. The locale has a range of diverse restaurant types (and budgets) which cater for all tastes, budget and clientele. Similarly the wine lover will not be disappointed. With the Colle Pisano, Montescudeo, Chianti and Maremma Tuscan regions all within a short drive offering a diverse range of quality wines.

The owners visit regularly and have built up immense knowledge of the province. Apart from the usual amenities within the apartment you will find a host of information, maps and books to help you make the most of your stay. All of this has been built up from their personal experience over the years. Details of local restaurants, wineries shops and even the RCR Tuscan Crystal Factory Outlet await the visitor. You will also find details on how to make the most of your stay with day trips, driving directions and hints and tips for the most intrepid of travellers !
