Peaceful cottage among the redwoods

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids aged 7, 3, 3) stayed at Amy's cottage for 4 nights in Spring 2018. The property is nicely secluded, among the tall trees (many of them redwoods) and there is a pasture in the backyard. When we stayed there in late March, there were cows and calves in the pasture, and we enjoyed watching them from the windows. Note that there are beds for 4 (I thought there was a pull out couch in addition to the two double beds in the bedrooms, for some reason, but no — the couch in the living room does not unfold). We were fine, because we brought a sleeping bag and a mat for our son. The cottage is old (so there is a bit of a musky smell, and the smell of cleaning products lingers), and somewhat light-limited (being in the woods), but we were comfortable. The furniture and decorum are antique and we liked that. The kitchen is well equipped. The fireplace was supplied with wood and kindling, which we used and appreciated. We forgot a jacket in the closet, and Becky was very kind to mail it to us. Thank you for a nice stay!

Quirky and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

Does the house need a bit of TLC? Sure. However it’s a quirky farmhouse with loads of charm and amenities for a reasonable price. The cows next door were the best neighbors! The kids enjoyed the hot tub and the selection of board games. The cottage is a quick 5-10 minute drive from grocery stores, etc. which made it the perfect home base.

Gem of a redwoods getaway cottage!

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a lovely 4 night stay at Amy's cottage this past August. We came for the trees and were really delighted with the rental property. Spacious, clean and just a great place to chill out after a day of hiking. S'mores in the fire pit, a hot tub in the forest - what more could one ask for. Thanks Becky & Dennis!

Unique Cottage among the Redwoods

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying at Amy's Redwood Cottage and definitely would return. It is a far different (and much better) experience than staying in Crescent City!

The property is beautiful, surrounded by a forest of mature redwoods, along with a couple of stumps of ancient giants. The garden-like yard has plenty of outdoor furniture, a fire pit, and clean Hot Springs spa tub. It is very private and peaceful. Even the yard was usually silent except for birds and some wind in the tree tops. And no biting insects to hinder enjoyment of the outdoors.

This location was plenty convenient to attractions like the giant redwood groves and trailheads along US 199, or the nearby Tolowa Dunes State Park. Getting into Crescent City is also easy enough, most of the drive on excellent highway.

We found the house quite clean everywhere it counts (kitchen, bathroom, fresh linens, floors, spa tub). Because of the appealing garden view, we noticed that the windows in the kitchen and living room were sparking clean. The kitchen is well-enough equipped and appliances all work. The shower is nice, and hot water is fine. Furniture is very comfortable (great bed) and includes some very cute antiques.

We would have rated the cottage five stars except for a strong mold smell inside (despite weeks without rainfall) and some minor maintenance issues. Perhaps we are more sensitive than others to mold. Upon return each day we aired out the place as best we could, and it was okay after that. The cottage also could use the attention of a good handyman. Even though the cleaners are doing a great job, we noticed a number of small things that a resident would notice are not right (windows that barely operate, bathroom door doesn't close, slow drain in the sink, etc.). Overall these are quite minor, and to repeat: we would definitely stay here again... not even consider any other accommodations in the area. The experience here is unique and memorable. 'Wish we were there now!

Quirky and Comfy!

  • 5 of 5

Tiny little place in the woods made an excellent base for exploring the redwoods and rivers. Comfortable bed, adequate cooking facilities. Suggest the addition of regular drinking glasses to the kitchen - a bit odd not to find any. Cookies on arrival, cows in the pasture, deer in the woods - all in all a good stop over. Not much to see or do in Crescent City but the surrounding areas stunning. Got passable take out fish and chips from Sea West less than a mile from cottage. Drove to Brookings , Oregon to explore that fun little town and had superb meal there at Khun Thai. Thank you.

Quaint, little cottage in the Redwoods. Home baked cookies upon arrival! Hot tub was awesome after a day of hiking and sightseeing however temp could be hotter. Cottage is in need of some improvements but was very peaceful. Nice, little getaway!
