Why Dennis and Becky Wood chose North Coast California

Comfortable, unique, private

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a couple of nights at Amy's Cottage. Loved the yard, the firepit, the hot tub. The house was comfortable for six of us, two of which were young teen boys. The yard around the house was wonderful. The boys played hours of games outside and scrabble inside. We enjoyed fires both nights, outside, under the stars and the lacey redwoods. The house was very private and quiet. The kitchen was easy to use with everything we needed. The linens were great and on comfortable beds.

A great cottage for a get away in the redwoods. No frills. Somewhat rustic, clean and comfortable. The grounds are great and the hot tub was delightful.

A wonderful stay in lovely quintesential coastal redwood cottage

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful stay at Amy's Cottage!

My circumstances were a bit different than most that stay in Crescent City. I was in the area for work and was looking for a "home away from home". The Wood's were wonderful about this and were truly accommodating. Their cottage did not disappoint.

I loved this place as it was truly a home. It is what one wants when they are in this area...a lovely, well appointed cottage nestled in the middle of the quiet redwoods. The bedrooms are very nice with very comfortable beds. The kitchen is a wonderful size (I did some very nice cooking while living here...something I love to do) and had everything that I needed. The living room had a nice TV. What was a very big deciding factor for a place for me in Crescent City was WiFi, as I had to work from home some days. I never had a problem with it and it worked great. And the wood burning fireplace and the very nice jacuzzi in the woods were just amazing. Nothing better on a evening than soaking in the jacuzzi in the middle of redwoods while staring at the amazing amount of stars in the sky. Then following it up with a cozy wood fire in the fireplace. Heaven!

The one thing I have to mention in this review is how wonderful the hosts are! The were extremely accommodating without being intrusive. These folks feel like family to me now. Something I didn't expect to happen!

Some things you want to keep in mind with this place when you stay here...

-You will be north of Crescent City in an area called Fort Dick. It is beautiful and a well desired area. You will be surrounded by pastoral farms and giant redwoods (the roadway onto the property is a "redwood gate" (just like you see in the pictures)..a great signature for the area. It was so nice to be close to what one needs in the town, but away from it where it was quiet and secluded.

-There is a beach not far that is picturesque and kind of a locals place (unlike the beaches in Crescent City...aka South Beach). One could call it a "stones throw"...there is some good agate hunting there. Ask the Woods about the beach if you are interested.

-There is a dirt road from the main road to the house. It is always well maintained. And it truly makes you feel like you are going to a special place...your own special private place in the redwoods.

I can't thank the Woods enough for a wonderful stay.

You will not be disappointed. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Fantastic Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I recently returned from our stay at the cottage. Once again, we had a very relaxing & enjoyable time. The cottage is so comfortable that it felt like home. Very nicely appointed kitchen containing just what we needed. Really comfortable beds & couch. Great wifi. The TV channels included (for you Bay Area folks) CSNBA, so we could watch our SF Giants! The grounds are so beautiful, & we enjoyed many a morning & evening in the hot tub & around the campfire. As to Crescent City & surrounds, there is so much to do that we didn't repeat much from last year. My favorites were horseback riding w/Lorie, across the street, & finding swimming holes on the Smith River. Did I mention we caught salmon, bbq'd oysters, hiked & kayaked? Just the best.
