The Lil House by the Sea has a warm funky atmosphere that is comfortable and fun. It is in the middle of the action only 1 block from the new PLEASURE PIER. The house sleeps 8... has 3 bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a tropical garden area with an outside shower, a large living area and fully stocked kitchen...including a commercial ice machine for filling the ice chest we provide. We have 2 flat screen TVs, DVD player and are wired with dish network and WIFI ....we remembered the lil things too, we have games, books, boogies boards, and tennis rackets. You can even write on our chalk board walls and leave notes in our vacation journal.
I am a widow and the mother of 5 children. A former retail manager, corporate auditor, ostrich farmer, marine biologist and cafe owner... I now own and manage the Lil House by the Sea. I am looking forward to this new venture and all the excitement and new friends it brings our way.
Elizabeth Wilson purchased this house in 2008
My Husband and I had talked about buying this house before he died and turning it into a cafe... since Robert's passing I couldn't travel anymore with my job at NOAA so it seemed the next logical move to make that dream a reality. After totally redoing the house to make it a parkside cafe we opened in January 2010. The family helped me run it and over the 2 1/2 yrs we were open we met many dear friends and neighbors. It however proved to be to much and we closed the cafe and low and behold ...the LIL HOUSE BY THE SEA was born. Heres to new adventures!
There are many unique benefits to our Lil House, location location location! 1 block to the beach and Pleasure Pier! Across the street from Galveston's Menard Park and Rec Center, which includes a first class skate park, tennis courts, a playground and a nicely equipped recreation center. All great places to mingle with locals and tourists alike!
Pros- cute older house that is close to the beach, biker rally & P. pier- owner was very nice & answered emails quickly- loved the chalk wall- liked the live flowers & fresh fruit- street parking a plus! City Park across the street - lots of fans thru out the house- nice side yard & patio-
Cons- sugar ants covered any food that was not in refrigerator, had to throw a lot of our food away- the roof leaks & from reading past post this is a on going problem- we put buckets down to catch the water, we do roof work & if this isn't address soon the air conditioner will be sitting in the laundry room- there is no drainage on the street, whole street flooded (no fault of owner, but it is what it is) - I would not stay here in summer for sure, the air is set on a governor of 74- hot & humid & it is November! I can not imagine summer- in the listing it states commercial ice maker, there is NO ice maker, not even in the freezer! (Owner did put a bag of ice in freezer) -there are no closets, no where to put your clothes - towels, our shop towels are better than the stained, dingy gray, stingy towels in the bathrooms, We paid a lot of money for our stay~ at least have quality colorful towels- kitchen, not a lot of glass wear, a few wine glasses, 4 plastic tea glasses, 5 coffee cups & a handful of solo cups- TV, limit on channels, we had to go to a sports bar to watch the football game- the place wasn't the cleanest, walking barefoot in house would make your feet black, need a over all scrub-
This house has potential, however it needs a lot of TLC- We did not complain to the owner nor did we want any money back - this review was written as a fact of our experience. We probably would not return nor recommend to others unless repairs were addressed
THIS HOUSE WAS GREAT NOT FAR FROM THE BEACH AND LOVED THAT THE TENNIS COURT WAS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET.
This house is so fun when you walk in. The chalkboard walls add such a nice twist. The location was great and in walking distance to so much. Owner was great and communicated very quickly.
The place was quite nice. The house is definitely older, but in a way that gives it character. The best part was how close it is to everything!
This house is in a great location - near Pleasure Pier, restaurants, skateboard park, tot park. The house is very clean. The garden area is very nice. The house itself is a little 'tired'. The bed comfort is average. The owner is helpful.
This was our 2nd visit to this property and we were as happy as ever! No problems at all regarding the house or at all! The location is just amazing for my family - which includes teenagers. We can all do whatever we want without having to drive anywhere if we don't want too-walk to the beach, skatepark (across the street) and Pleasure Pier. We has 5 people very comfortably inside at night and on the porch for coffee in the morning. Thank you again, and see you next year!
We are located one block from the beach and the historic Pleasure Pier....and... conveniently located across the street from our Lil House is Menard City Park which includes the Mcquire Dent Recreation Center, Pirates Pit Skate Park, Scoggins Tennis Courts and a large playground/picnic area.
