'Fantastic swimming, fishing, skiing, and kayaking right out your door on this large all-sport lake, short drive to golf in Gaylord or Garland, separate boathouse sleeping area with private bath overlooking lake, close to town, yet you feel like you are in the woods.
This comfortable, well maintained, lakefront cabin is located on the north side of West Twin Lake, in charming Lewiston, MI. Enjoy the views from the lake facing windows, the three seasoned porch, or out on the open patio. Have your morning coffee on the dock while watching the loons. Lay in the shady hammock and watch the kids playing on the dock.
This cabin has the authentic knotty-pine 'Up-North' feel. One of the few homes on the lake to have a private bedroom/bathroom overlooking the lake. There is air conditioning in the main house. The home is fully supplied with all kitchen/linen items. All you need is your swimsuit and fishing pole! This home is ready for kids with games and bikes to use when you are not enjoying the lake. There is a comfy fireplace to warm up the cottage on those cool nights.
The lake has a sandy bottom is fantastic for swimming and the lakefront is complete with a private, 80ft dock for boat mooring and a nice sandy shoreline. The dock is waiting for you to pull up your power boat or to use our rowboat or canoe. There is a barbeque for your family cook-outs.
Sleeps 10 very comfortably.
This cottage has been in the family since it was built in the 50's. Originally built as a hunting cabin, it has been expanded a few times over the years but still has it's 1950's charm. None of the family lives in Michgan anymore but we still love to come to the cottage once or twice a year. We hope you will enjoy it the rest of the summer!
Ruth Wiley purchased this cottage in 1955
This property is especially great for young families because there is plenty of shallow sandy water to play in. There is great 'fishing for kids' I call it 'kerplunking'!! You can walk or boat over to the canal and toss your line in and catch a little 4 inch bass or sunfish in a matter of minutes. The kids love it! Of course we throw them back so daddy can catch them when the grow up :-) The charming town of Lewiston is about three miles from the cottage. We have a full service grocery store for all you needs. We have several great restaurants if you don't want to cook. The bigger town of Gaylord is a quick 30 minutes away if you need a little more shopping. We have some great golf courses in the area also.
Our cottage is one of the few cottages on the lake with a sleepover boathouse - Even the McMansions cannot build this close to the water. Our cottage is situated on the 'best' side of the lake. We have a sandy bottom which makes swimming off the shore so much more enjoyable.
3 couples and 4 kids (8-14) were very comfortable at the "cottage" and boathouse. All the living areas in the house face the lake so there is always a view! The grandparents enjoyed the adjustable twin beds and adjacent large bath/laundry room. Everything we needed was there except the pontoon boat which we rented. The description was accurate and the owner very responsive to questions. We are hoping to visit again!
My husband and I, along with our two daughters and one daughter's five-year-old son, stayed at Ruth Wilke's vacation home in Lewiston in late June. We chose it because we needed a sufficiently large place for four adults and our grandson, AND it had to be on a lake. We found the property spacious, with three bedrooms in the house proper and a fourth bedroom in the boathouse. The kitchen was fully stocked. Bathrooms were clean. The laundry room had functioning washer and dryer. We appreciated the large TV - which actually worked, not always the case with a vacation rental; the TV had cable and a DVD player, as well as a large collection of DVD's. Air-conditioning worked. We especially enjoyed the rowboat and went out in it every day; there were plenty of life jackets in the garage. If your family includes swimmers, please know that the water is very clean, with a sandy bottom (no rocks) and is pretty shallow near the shore, so you don't have to be afraid to take little ones out to wade in it. We enjoyed watching a family of ducks on the lake and hearing the loons at night. Neighbors are friendly.
In terms of things to do, don't plan on shopping (other than for groceries) in Lewiston, which is very small. You will need to go to Gaylord, or, better yet, Grayling to do that. Depending on your expectations for vacation dining, you are safe with Talley's and the Lewiston Lodge. Otherwise, go to Grayling, not a long trip.
Ruth's information prior to the trip was excellent. Also, she called shortly after we arrived to make sure that we were not having problems. I have rented summer homes from a number of home owners, and Ruth has been the best to work with. Highly recommended.
Old rustic charm. Clean and had everything we needed. Thanks Ruth for the great weather.
We really enjoyed our time at this West Twin Lake property. Ruth makes everything easy for her guests. The cottage is well equipped and the boathouse provides a separate unit for family guests or friends. We played golf at Garland and at several courses in the Gaylord area. Since there is a marina on the lake, we were able to easily rent a pontoon boat for the "boat days" we had during the week. We also brought a fishing boat wish handled well in the lake even on a couple choppy days. We hope to return soon.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage and boathouse were very clean and there were plenty of towels, dishes, utensils all in very good condition.
The view of the lake is fantastic, the water is very sandy--great for kids, as it is shallow also.
I have been to several northern Michigan cottages and this one is far and away the best. The Lewiston Lodge is great for dining and grocery shopping, a pharmacy and churches are all within 3 miles.
I highly recommend this cottage.
