About Alf Grell
I am a Captain on superyachts and live in France in the winter and summer in Sweden. I have during my travels in the Mediterreanean been inspired by the ancient Roman architecture.Based on this I bought a land in La Colle sur Loup and designed and build this villa. A lot of the items you see in the villa I collected during my travels and they all have their own story.
Alf Grell purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Alf Grell chose La Colle-sur-Loup
I build this villa without compromise. It is spacious with an open layout in a silent, calm private area with only one neighbour and close to nature. You also have open view over the village and down to Mediterranean Sea.

Lovely Property But Could Be So Much More!
For a property with such potential there are some small details that let it down. Overall as various people have noted, the property is just not clean enough, in all honesty it was probably cleaner when we left it, the poolside BBQ area and the indoor kitchen were especially poor and needed thorough cleaning before any use.
Otherwise the property was in good order in an amazing location, the outside space including the terraces and pool are what makes it, though again let down by some small issues, such as the tapestry of gaffer tape holding the gazebo together is quite a sight and the pool guy should come every day or every other day, as I spent more time cleaning it that anyone else, when he did come I don’t think he cleaned it at all, yet otherwise a nice chap and really helpful, esp when we lost our keys.
The house could probably do with a slight refurb if I’m being really critical but other than that all OK, even if the aircon in the lower two bedrooms is a bit hit and miss. Also the apartment has no real useable aircon as there is no outlet for the hot air hose other than leaving the window open and that leaves you at the mercy of the mosquitos.
The owners are really helpful and assisted us with many details both before and during our stay, which we were really appreciative of.
Everything you could need is on site, including masses of pool towels, fully equipped kitchen etc and lots of pool toys in the trunk in the pool house.
As I said great property, you won’t want for anything, fantastic owners but just let down by the staff they use, cleaners etc...
The villa was clean when guest arrive from our longterm working cleaning lady. The pool was also clean when guest arrived.
Cleaning of house or pool is not
included during the week. We can provide cleaning on the guests expense
There was a hail storm earlier this summer and the gazebo roof got some holes that was repaired temporary with gaffer tape until a new roof will arrive.

Very nice house at a good location.
Pretty much what we expected and it’s on the list of the best houses we have rented out of approx 10.

WONDERFUL VILLA
There are some very positive features - the very good position in relation to the village, the marvellous pool which Guy the gardener kept beautifully clean and the wonderful gardens. We also found the beds to be very comfortable with effective air conditioning. The six of us enjoyed sitting on the veranda. It states in the description of the villa on the website “this newly built villa”. This villa must be at least 20 years old. I have given it five stars as they won't publish this otherwise!!! We were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the villa considering we and all other guests pay a cleaning fee every week. The kitchen was extremely dirty particularly the oven was so poor as to be unusable. In fact, the general cleanliness of all the kitchen equipment, plates, cutlery work surfaces and cupboards was poor. The indoor BBQ grids were black, unclean and unusable. The BBQ grids by the pool were black and filthy. I would estimate that for the cleaning fee this should give many hours of cleaning each week. As we left on Saturday a young woman cleaner arrived who told me she was the only one and that the gardener helps her after he has done the pool/garden. With so many hours of cleaning I suggest the villa would be immaculate. In addition, the dishwasher failed on the Monday of our week and continued to fail intermittently until we left. The toaster was also faulty. The shower flows were poor and we would expect modern plumbing with power showers to be fitted in a building that appeared to offer NEW luxury. I passed all these complaints to the owner who made only one response – we have had no complaints in 12 years and if you had told me about the lack of cleanliness I would have sent a cleaner in!!!. Indicating that this is clearly not a newly built villa but at least 12 years old. That was it except we, the six of us, got charged a highly significant amount for electricity which would mean that the annual electricity bill would be in absolutely enormous. We only used the A/C in the evening in three bedrooms and were out all day. Of course we have no means of verification as we weren’t offered the opportunity to read the meter on arrival and departure.
Dear Guest
Thank you for your 5 stars and your comments are noted. We have for next season changed the cleaning lady to be up to standard for future bookings.
Modern luxury villa in wonderful location
We have had a lovely stay at this villa in July/August 2018. We utilized both the main house and the studio on top of the garage; all 6 bedrooms.
Our overall impression is that everything was very good, but we think that it might be worth noting that the bedrooms are quite different in terms of size and bedding options. The sofa bed in the smallest bedroom can hardly fit two people but works fine for single occupancy. Also, the smaller rooms and the studio have portable ACs which worked OK but were quite noisy. Earplugs recommended for light sleepers!
Kitchen and living room areas are great with plenty of space and seating options. The kitchen is fully equipped when it comes to utensils, cutlery, glasses etc. But best of all is of course the outdoor area including the pool (daily cleaning). Really nice and well kept!
The geographical location is wonderful. Walking distance (but a very steep hill) to the village center which offers restaurants, bakeries, pharmacy, a small supermarket and a fruits and vegetable store. In the near vicinity is also the quaint village of Saint Paul de Vence and the art museum Fondation Maeght. Both are highly recommended! The closest beach we went to was in the neighboring town of Cagnes sur Mer. It is a pebble beach area which is well kept and with both public and private sections (with sunbeds to rent). The beach is approximately a 15-minute car trip away.
Thank you very much for your review. Your commends are noted and will be rectified to next year.
Kind Regards
Alf Grell
Impressive, high quallity and very nice location.
We had 14 days in this villa in July 2018. This became a dream holiday in a beautiful house in a beautiful area.
The villa is a beautiful building, and the pool area was great with barbecue- and dining area.
Close by was a small cozy village, and the river with hiking areas and trails were just a dream.
Central located with many facilities nearby.
The owner of the villa, Alf Grell, was always available and very accommodating.
Will give this villa my very best recommendations.

Lovely property, peaceful yet convenient location
The house and pool were lovely overall, perfectly placed at the edge of a lovely town/village with everything we needed for a relaxed holiday. Also perfectly placed to travel to the coast or visit many of the beautiful towns and villages in land.
Our only issue was that the two "guest" bedrooms downstairs did not have air conditioning, which in July made sleeping difficult.
