Valais Chalet Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom chalet, sleeps 6. Furnished to high standard in contemporary style.

Chalet le Joyau is a luxury 3-bedroom chalet with breathtaking views overlooking the Rhone valley. It is situated in the centre of Nendaz, just 10 minutes from the ski lifts and only 2 hours from Geneva airport. For ease of travel our changeover day is Saturday.

The chalet's accommodation is on two floors, with a separate entrance on each level. It is furnished to the highest standards in an unfussy, contemporary style and is generously equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing stay.

This includes flatscreen TV, Blu ray and DVD player, high quality hifi with MP3 player and fast wifi.

Entering from the front garden, the entrance hall and cloakroom lead into a big open plan sitting/dining room and fully fitted kitchen, with windows and balconies on three sides offering stunning views over the Rhone Valley. Downstairs are the three bedrooms and main bathroom as well as the large technical area - for skis and boots and with its own access to the garden.

The chalet has three private car parking spaces including a garage, all next to the chalet.

Kids / Spas: Nendaz is a great resort for families, with plenty to entertain the kids. In winter there is a children snow park up at Tracouet with a 'moving carpet' lift for tinies, and a tubing and sledging area. The ski schools take kids from the age of 3 and the creche in Nendaz is able to take infants from 18 months. For those with younger children, our concierge service offers a personal babysitting service. In summer there's lots for kids to do around the resort. In the village there is a large adventure playground with trampolines with bungee harnesses. There is also an open air swimming pool.

There are a number of thermal spas within easy driving access of Nendaz, open all year round. The closest are at Saillon, a dramatic medieval fortress town in the valley beneath Nendaz. Also close to Nendaz is the boutique ski and spa resort of Ovronnaz, above Saillon, on the north side of the Rhone Valley.

Nendaz - the all year round resort: Most people head to the Alps in Winter because of the snow. But the people who live here know that the mountains can be equally rewarding throughout the year.

For skiers and boarders the 4 Valleys offers over 400km of marked runs - as well as plenty of unmarked stuff for the experts and mentalists.

And for walking and mountain biking the opportunities are virtually limitless, with the lift network operating in July and August.

if there isn't snow on the ground there's still plenty to do and see in the mountains around Nendaz.

From the top of Mont-Fort down to the bottom of the Rhone valley are countless miles of paths covering the full range of Alpine terrain from high mountain glacier to gentle meadow.

Some of the best walking is along the network of bisses. Built by the farmers of the Valais to bring water down to the dry lower slopes, the irrigation channels date back as early as 1435, and their accompanying paths criss-cross the mountainside, offering outstanding views.

Summer attractions : Nendaz is an ideal location for mountain biking and offers tracks for all levels in a glorious setting. You can use the lift systems to give your mountain bike a chance to really deserve its name. Novices as well as confirmed sportsmen/women can find an itinerary suited to their level. For those looking for a challenge the Tour de Mont Fort is a 48km route which provides the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Nendaz, Verbier and La Tzoumaz ski areas, combining glaciers and alpine meadows in the tour.

For those who want to watch the action, the Grand Raid passes through Nendaz. with its 132km and a variation in altitude of 4600m, the Grand Raid is the longest mountain bike race in the world. With more than 4000 participants, including some of the best cyclists in this field, the race leaves from Verbier and passes though Nendaz en route, attracting many spectators every year who gather along the route.

About Robert Smith

We are a family based in London with a passion for the mountains and skiing. Ros grew up in Switzerland and has been skiing in the Four Vallees ski region since she was a small child. Our son, Jake is now following in his mother's footsteps or ski tracks and like us is developing an early passion for the mountains.

In our opinion, having skied in many, many domains across Europe and America, the Four Vallees offers the best skiing we have found, which is why we bought a place here.

Robert Smith purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Robert Smith chose Valais

Chalet Le Joyau is our second family home. As such we have therefore furnished and styled it for ourselves. Hopefully you will find that it is stylish and comfortable rather than being a bland and characterless rental property.

We bought le Joyau it for ourselves although we rent it so that we can share it with others. It is not a business as such. We are always keen to ensure that people enjoy the chalet and the resort as much as we do.

What makes this chalet unique

The chalet has an uninterrupted view from the balcony, looking out across the Rhone valley which covers in the region of 70 miles of mountain range as you look from left to right including such peaks as the Matterhorn. We absolutely promise that you will be stunned by the view.

The chalet is centrally located, easily accessible both on foot and by car and is within a c.5 mins walk from the main ski lift

Guestbook comments from the owner

I very much enjoyed my stay here. This could be the best place on earth.

This home was a delight.

The Chalet le Joyau is a wonderful chalet with panoramic views of the mountains and of the valley below. It was clean, fresh and felt new. The owners' generosity in allowing renters to use the washing machine and dryer was of immeasurable help in our multiweek vacation! We walked to town for dinners, and Haute Nendaz has lots to offer as far as shops and activities, as well as several grocery stores. The owners also forwarded many brochures in electronic formats so that we could plan our activities in the area. We felt completely comfortable in emailing the owner several times and always received a quick response. Far and away the most enjoyable rental experience of our vacation! I recommend this home and these owners highly. Thanks for a wonderful time in your chalet

A beautiful chalet

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 5 with a 6 year old boy. We had a great holiday and this beautiful chalet made our trips out even better as we knew we were ending our day in this perfect Swiss gem. The chalet was clean comfortable and well equipped. The owners were helpful and friendly and excellent to deal with. None of us had a negative word to say. We couldn't have asked for more. Thank you

What a wonderful Chalet........

  • 5 of 5

Many thanks for the nice stay in your wonderful Chalet. If you allow we will be glad to return sometimes in the next year.

Had never such a well equipped Chalet before. And what a stunning view from the balcony - breathtaking.

This is a really great place to relax, or go for the different activities you can do nearby. The Chalet is also ideally located for all people, who like to explore the whole Valais. For example: it takes only 90min to drive to Saas-Fee/ Zermatt, or maybe around 60min to Lake Geneve or Evolene.

There is simply nothing to complain about, and the contact to the property owners is very kind.

Definitely 5 stars :-)

Perfect holidays

  • 5 of 5

First of all we got a detailed script how to reach the chalet. And .... it worked.

Then we were flashed how lovely it was. Overlooking the Rhone valley from the breakfast table, playing Backgammon in the evening with the lights of the valley around - we admired it. The house was perfect for 6 people to live.

We really recommend it.

Well-worth the trip from west coast of USA!

Having traveled with HomeAway in Europe for the last seven years, we had high expectations for our trip to Switzerland last summer and staying at Chalet le Joyau. I'm pleased to say that those expectations were far exceeded. The Chalet was absolutely perfect, location spectacular and our 10-day stay was one of the best we have had in Europe. Le Joyau was immaculate, luxurious with every amenity handled and the view from every window, door and spot on the balcony was beyond words. High up in the Swiss Alps, one almost didn't want to sleep for wanting to take in more of the world-class vistas. From the Chalet we ventured off both right in the vicinity (local hiking at Les 4 Vallees and taking in the magic of Nendaz) and then via short drives to some of the brilliance that Valais has to offer, including the baths at Leukerbad, the majesty of Matterhorn and Zermatt, the cheese and chocolate history (and even legacy of Giger) in Gruyeres plus several trips to Montreaux to experience Chateau de Chillon and home of the reknown Jazz Festival. We took our trip in summer, which allowed us to sample some of Switzerland's natural wonders via drives and hiking. It's certainly something when you can say that you hiked the base of Matterhorn and heard alpenhorn and cowbells. All this would would have been impossible without having a "base of operations" as spectacular as le Joyau. Much thanks to Rob and Ros for allowing us to stay at their mountain oasis - we know we'll be back!

Nendaz is one of the best kept secrets in the Swiss Alps. It lies at the centre of the world class Verbier - 4 valleys ski area.

Unlike most ski resorts, Nendaz and the surrounding area is an all year-round resort. From mountain biking or walking on the high alpine passes through to relaxing by the open-air pool or spas and exploring the many local vineyards, there is something for all the family throughout the year.

Other Activities: spa baths, vinyards and wine tasting

Ski: With 92 different lifts serving 412 km of marked runs (and a wealth of off-piste), there's plenty in the 4 Valleys to keep skiers and boarders of all abilities occupied for many a season. The more demanding terrain is in the southern part of the ski area, which is as easily accessible from Nendaz as it is from its more famous neighbour, Verbier. The un-pisted itinerary runs from Mont-Fort (3330m) and Mont-Gelé, and the Tortin and Gentianes routes, all demand respect from the experienced skier.

To the north are the gentler, groomed pistes above Veysonnaz and Thyon - although the 1km vertical descent down the red from Ethérolla to Mayens-De-L'Ours - including the world cup run 'La Piste de l'Ours' - would be testing without a break.

Nendaz itself sits in the centre of this outstanding ski area, and has swift links to the neighbouring valleys via the Tracouet gondola, just ten minutes walk from the chalet. There is also a regular free shuttle bus service between Nendaz and Siviez.
