About Kate Frick

Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.

Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kate Frick chose West Virginia

Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.

This is the third year in the past four that my sister and I have stayed in your lovely cabin on Sleepy Creek. As always, it was glorious! Anyone who enjoys the sights and sounds of nature can’t help but be rejuvenated by time spent there – it’s the perfect place to escape the busyness and stresses of everyday life for a little while. This year, we spent most of our time at the cabin, although in past years, we've enjoyed poking around in the shops in Berkeley Springs. A previous visitor mentioned a favorite creek experience – ours was seeing 10-12 blue jays fly into the bushes across the creek, and then take turns flopping about in the shallow water at the creek’s edge. A blue jay spa – who knew? The cabin itself has all the comforts of home (except WiFi, but that’s just fine!) and is clean and well cared for. On the day of departure, we delayed leaving until the last minute so we could squeeze as much time as possible into our stay. Once again, it was a perfect getaway and we hope to come back next year! Thank you, David and Kate!

My husband and I seek peace and quiet in our vacation experiences. Both of us have stressful jobs, and this cabin satisfied our need for privacy and peace. The cabin is lovely inside and out with an open deck and a covered veranda complete with Adirondack chairs so one can be outside even if it's raining. The creek running nearby is musical and clear. Our favorite creek experience this year included a group of mergansers fishing in the stream being followed by a wily heron who was letting the mergansers find the fish. This was our third stay at Sleepy Creek Cabin. As soon as we drive out the private driveway, we are ready for another visit! We highly recommend this cabin.

Owner's Response: Cheryl it is always a pleasure to have you and Geoffrey stay! It makes us so happy to know how much you love being at the cabin and I know you too really need the downtime. Your sighting of the mergansers sounds magical! Hope you two will be able to get away again and stay at the cabin. Best always, Kate and David

Beautiful, Secluded Home

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully maintained home with Sleepy Creek right outside your back door! Everything you could possibly need (e..g, basic spices, extra blankets, hammack) were in the home and Berkeley Springs is only fifteen minutes away. My only complaint is that the place is pretty dark as its surrounded by trees meaning that even during the middle of the day the home felt a bit gloomy. Also, there is no Internet access. You can use your phone as a hotspot, but TMobile doesn't service the area (but Verizon does).

What an awesome place!!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is in a perfect spot. The creek is right there, and you can hear the water babbling. The hammock is heavenly! The cabin itself is beautiful. It was furnished with everything anyone could ever want or need. It is very close to a lot of different activities. Berkeley Springs is very nice, and everyone was friendly., Taris cafe has really good food. Sleepy Creek Cabin was an all around great experience. We plan to go back!

My only suggestions:

(1)to add a mirror somewhere in cabin, (we were 4 girls trying to get ready in one mirror).

(2) Possibly ask the neighbor to keep their dogs inside until at least 8am. They woke us up each morning around 7-715am each morning, continuously barking. We love dogs but not early, please!

Amazing, quiet, getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two nights in the "Log Cabin on Sleepy Creek" for the first stop on our vacation last week. When we got there we wished we had booked our entire stay there. The cabin was the perfect size for us and the sounds of the creek kept us on the front deck most of the time. It was clean and just as advertised. The owners were very helpful when I had a question about check-in. The hiking trails were close by so we could easily get to them for some exercise. We hope to visit again. Thank you so much for sharing your cabin. E & W

Kids loved the creek

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cabin in mid July 2016. We were attracted by the proximity of the creek for the kids to play in. That certainly did not disappoint. Getting down to the creek was a bit steep and thus tricky for the six-year old, but ultimately he navigated the path fine. You can see the kids playing in the creek, which was about waist deep for the 6-year old, from the cabin porch. Another plus was that there were very few mosquitoes, which is a nice change from suburban DC. The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils, pots, dishes you would want. The cabin is clean...a few bugs got in.

Here's a few things to be aware of:

There's no washing machine...we did not think to look for that in the property description. With three kids in the cabin for one week, a washing machine would have been welcome. Maybe our stink deterred the mosquitoes?

There's no internet...which the owner made to clear to us...but we could not get phone reception either. Maybe others will have better luck with some service other than T-mobile. My wife and I agreed not being tied to the gadgets was refreshing...I read a book made of paper!...but it was certainly a cause for concern as well since we would have no way to call for emergency medical help or for AAA if the car died. It was at least two miles until our phones finally got reception.

Thanks Kate for the nice stay.
