About Kate Frick

Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.

Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kate Frick chose West Virginia

Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.

Very Nice Anniversary Weekend Away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary by spending a weekend at Sleepy Creek. Everything was wonderful. Highlights include roasting marshmallows in the firepit and taking a dip in the creek. We also headed over to Berkeley Springs to check out the town and get lunch, and it's a short, easy drive away. An earlier review mentioned bugs inside, and when we arrived we saw an exterminator invoice on the counter, so kudos to the owners for quickly addressing that. We are looking forward to returning!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. We have a subscription service for bugs, unfortunately being in the woods, on an occasion the bugs may get ahead of the exterminator. My apologies to all who found the bugs too daunting, but very glad you did not!

Perfect, Peaceful, Country Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed for two days. I would have loved to have stayed longer. The house is nicely laid out and furnished well enough for comfort. We didn't use the kitchen much, but it does have all the essentials. Beds are a slice of heaven.

The large shower is great. There are plenty of towels, and even some samples in the bathroom, if you are like me and forget your shampoo.

The outside around the house is a treat. We were very fortunate to have perfect weather. I loved leaving the doors and windows opened to listen to the sounds of nature. It was fantastic waking up in the morning, getting my coffee, and reading on the porch which overlooks the creek. Thanks for having 'Into the Wild' in the collection of books. There is also a fire pit. I used it both nights for a calming unwind. There is wood already provided by the owners, including kindling to get your fire started. There is a small walking path along the creek, which we walked until it ran out the wandered through the woods where we came across a deer.

For those who like to stay indoors, there is a TV in the living room and bedroom with Directv, a DVD player, a drawer of dvd's a radio with a disc player, and some relaxing cd's.

City folk beware... Driving into town takes about 20 minutes and it gets very dark at night. Roads are a bit windy, so I would suggest making sure you have everything you need for the night, especially if you're not used to the area, or are used to fast convenience. There are gas stations as you get closer to, or leave from town on the way to or from the house, but still not right around the corner. Also, Wifi is not great. It didn't bother me, but my daughter was not used to having her phone attached to her hand the whole trip.

I very much recommend Sleepy Creek. It is the perfect place for a peaceful, country hideaway.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. The roads are indeed windy and not well lit at night and the local residents who know the roads well tend to drive them quite 'expertly.' Glad you were able to enjoy the peacefulness and tranquility; it is one of the attributes we find so appealing with the location. David & Kate

I cannot wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was just as described, but the atmosphere was indescribable. The creek is so peaceful, and we literally had the same doe grazing and resting around the cabin throughout the duration of our stay. It was great. The Cottage Cafe had amazing iced lattes and friendly staff, and the town of Berkeley Springs has great antique stores. The only downside was that most stores/restaurants were closed Monday and Tuesdays. This was the same in Hancock, a town nearby, as well. Getting to Cacapon State Park was easy, and the hiking there was fun. Stay here! You won't regret it.

Owner's Response: If you enjoy hiking there is also the Tuscarora trail which can be accessed from the cabin, not to mention the C&O and the Maryland RailTrail. So glad you were able to enjoy the outdoors. David & Kate

Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

If your looking for a relaxing peaceful get away-this is the perfect place!! We enjoyed every part of this cabin, especially the porch and the creek. We sat outside the whole time enjoying the view. Even when it rained the cover porch was the perfect retreat. My daughter loved hanging out in the loft area and we all enjoyed hanging out down by the creek fishing and swimming. Everything was very clean, we felt like we were at a little resort in the woods. Plenty of towels were provided, dishes, cups, pots and pans, toaster, microwave, blankets and much more. The cabin had everything we wanted and needed. It was very private and quiet -we especially loved listening to the creek at night time. The owners were very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to emails if we needed anything. We will definitely be returning! Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven at Sleepy Creek!

Perfect, private getaway!

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is just as described and delightfully furnished. Very comfortable inside and out! The creek was rushing down the hillside after a few heavy rains, just beautiful. We had planned to go out to eat the 2nd night, but chose to stay home and eat leftovers. Did not want to interrupt the peaceful time. A couple of minor criticisms: there is really no pantry, we found a few drops of olive oil, salt and pepper. Glad we brought already prepared meals. Also, I am always disappointed when a host provides badly worn non-stick pans--these are dangerous, folks. Another heads up is that the shower is barely functional with such low pressure. We were only there 2 nights, so I waited to shower and rinse my hair. That said, we are hoping to return because the setting is just perfect!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the comments re: the pans. We have purchased replacements and will bring them up on our next visit. Alas, there is no pantry nor really good way to store many of a kitchen's standard condiments. Not exactly sure how to remedy the situation without creating clutter, but we'll definitely give it some thought. Thank you for your input! David & Kate

nice... but a few bugs

  • 3 of 5

the location and scenery are beautiful, but very remote (further from town and other activities than anticipated). the house was also very nice, but bad shower and lots of bugs inside and out.

Owner's Response: If by 'bad shower' you're referring to the pressure, it is on a well system and the pressure is not as robust as you might find in an urban or suburban setting. The water is also very soft (unlike suburban or urban water). The water is very safe and is one of the draws to the area for those looking for a healthy alternative. Thank you for letting us know, we did ask our cabin manager to clean out the shower head and hopefully that should improve the pressure. Re: the bugs, we do have a quarterly service which the vast majority of the time keeps them at bay, but we are sorry your stay was made unpleasant by their presence. It seems the service came right after your stay - our apologies for the bad timing of the service :(. David & Kate
