About Kate Frick

Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.

Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kate Frick chose West Virginia

Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.

Amazing mountain-stream cabin get-away

  • 5 of 5

The only thing lacking was a 90-foot waterfalls! Wow! What an amazing cabin get-away right next to a 40-foot wide babbling stream in a mountain forest! My wife and I celebrated our one-year anniversary there for two and a half days, and we couldn't have been happier. We had gorgeous weather and two nights of full moon reflecting in the stream that we enjoyed from the deck. We loved sipping our morning coffee on the deck, listening to the stream, and watching a movie in the evening with the wood stove keeping us plenty warm. Also enjoyed the small town of Berkeley Springs 15 minutes away. We are hoping to go back again!

Creekside Oasis

  • 5 of 5

The Sleepy Creek Cabin was delightful and surprising. As we turned onto the seemingly residential gravel road that led to the cabin, we didn't know what to expect. Would this be the remote, isolated experience for which we had hoped? It definitely was. The cabin sits right up against the creekside with no visible neighbors in sight, providing a tranquil and remote experience. It's also close to some beautiful hiking spots.

The cabin itself was perfect, both rustic and cozy, and the wood-burning stove added to the charm and experience. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful, but buggy.

  • 2 of 5

The property itself was beautiful. The cabin is deep in the woods right next to the creek. It's quiet and secluded. The kitchen and bathroom have been recently updated. The cabin would sleep five very comfortably. They also have plenty of movies and tv to keep you occupied. However, there is a pretty significant stink bug problem. During our two day stay we probably killed about 40 of them. I don't think we will be returning to the cabin until the bug problem is fixed. It's a real shame because we loved it otherwise.

Owner's Response: I’m so sorry you had an issue with the stink bugs. I agree they are a nuisance and annoying. They can’t survive inside since their food source is outside, so only come in once the weather has turned and it’s too cold to be outside all the time (generally March and April). This winter just wasn’t cold enough to kill the vast population. In the past, a couple stink bugs have found their way into the cabin (not much more than we have had in our own home) but this year is probably more significant due to the mild weather. I appreciate the information so we can take some appropriate action. We have purchased 2 bug repellers that are supposed to deter all bugs (stink bugs included) from coming in. We will also ask our handyman to come out and see if there are any gaps around the windows, etc. where he can put some extra seal. I do hope you will try us again Kathleen so you can have an opportunity to really enjoy the quiet and seclusion.

It was the ultimate spot if you and significant other want to be alone. The setting is perfect to be together with no interruptions. The cablin was perfect, especially the little wood burning stove. The two down sides were little to no water pressure in the shower. One other downside were the stink bugs 🐜. We took care of a total of 14 in one night. So if you want to be alone in the perfect little setting by the creek, the cabin is perfect. If you don't like Little guests it's not the perfect setting. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 6.

Owner's Response: Rick I am sorry things were not up to par for you. I will be so grateful when someone finally finds a formula to eradicate the stink bugs. In the meantime, we are installing some repellers and some extra sealing. Since the winter was so mild, more than usual survived. Sounds like the shower head could use a cleaning out too. I have always found the shower pressure fine but not super hard as we are on a well. Glad everything else was up to par. David & Kate

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: A Weekend of Rest and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I came back to this cabin after an initial stay back in 2013. It was just a quiet and peaceful as we remember during our last stay. Kate, the owner, was very accessible and able to address any needs before our stay. During our time, we relaxed and enjoyed a nice cozy weekend away from DC. The only issue I can recall is not being able to play the DVD player with the new TV, other than that, AMAZING!!!!

Owner's Response: Venton it was wonderful to host you both again! We so appreciate your kind words and are so happy you had a restful stay. Sorry you couldn't get the Blueray to work. We checked after we read your review and a previous guest had unplugged a few things. All seems to be working fine now. Thanks again for staying with us again. Kate & David :)

Words just don't describe our amazing, relaxing stay at this lovely cabin. Another reviewer commented that the hosts thought of everything, and that couldn't be more true. The csbin was clean, snug and stocked with comfy bedding and linens. We felt like we were in a hotel with the modern bathroom and gorgeous granite countertops. The bed was super comfortable and the wood stove kept the whole place toasty. We can't wait to come back and see what it looks like in the spring or summer. This was our first experience with an online rental and we will never go back to hotels. Thank you for the best weekend ever!!!
