Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.
Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009
Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.
Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.
This cabin is in a perfect spot. The creek is right there, and you can hear the water babbling. The hammock is heavenly! The cabin itself is beautiful. It was furnished with everything anyone could ever want or need. It is very close to a lot of different activities. Berkeley Springs is very nice, and everyone was friendly., Taris cafe has really good food. Sleepy Creek Cabin was an all around great experience. We plan to go back!
My only suggestions:
(1)to add a mirror somewhere in cabin, (we were 4 girls trying to get ready in one mirror).
(2) Possibly ask the neighbor to keep their dogs inside until at least 8am. They woke us up each morning around 7-715am each morning, continuously barking. We love dogs but not early, please!
We stayed for two nights in the "Log Cabin on Sleepy Creek" for the first stop on our vacation last week. When we got there we wished we had booked our entire stay there. The cabin was the perfect size for us and the sounds of the creek kept us on the front deck most of the time. It was clean and just as advertised. The owners were very helpful when I had a question about check-in. The hiking trails were close by so we could easily get to them for some exercise. We hope to visit again. Thank you so much for sharing your cabin. E & W
We stayed at the cabin in mid July 2016. We were attracted by the proximity of the creek for the kids to play in. That certainly did not disappoint. Getting down to the creek was a bit steep and thus tricky for the six-year old, but ultimately he navigated the path fine. You can see the kids playing in the creek, which was about waist deep for the 6-year old, from the cabin porch. Another plus was that there were very few mosquitoes, which is a nice change from suburban DC. The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils, pots, dishes you would want. The cabin is clean...a few bugs got in.
Here's a few things to be aware of:
There's no washing machine...we did not think to look for that in the property description. With three kids in the cabin for one week, a washing machine would have been welcome. Maybe our stink deterred the mosquitoes?
There's no internet...which the owner made to clear to us...but we could not get phone reception either. Maybe others will have better luck with some service other than T-mobile. My wife and I agreed not being tied to the gadgets was refreshing...I read a book made of paper!...but it was certainly a cause for concern as well since we would have no way to call for emergency medical help or for AAA if the car died. It was at least two miles until our phones finally got reception.
Thanks Kate for the nice stay.
My wife and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary by spending a weekend at Sleepy Creek. Everything was wonderful. Highlights include roasting marshmallows in the firepit and taking a dip in the creek. We also headed over to Berkeley Springs to check out the town and get lunch, and it's a short, easy drive away. An earlier review mentioned bugs inside, and when we arrived we saw an exterminator invoice on the counter, so kudos to the owners for quickly addressing that. We are looking forward to returning!
My daughter and I stayed for two days. I would have loved to have stayed longer. The house is nicely laid out and furnished well enough for comfort. We didn't use the kitchen much, but it does have all the essentials. Beds are a slice of heaven.
The large shower is great. There are plenty of towels, and even some samples in the bathroom, if you are like me and forget your shampoo.
The outside around the house is a treat. We were very fortunate to have perfect weather. I loved leaving the doors and windows opened to listen to the sounds of nature. It was fantastic waking up in the morning, getting my coffee, and reading on the porch which overlooks the creek. Thanks for having 'Into the Wild' in the collection of books. There is also a fire pit. I used it both nights for a calming unwind. There is wood already provided by the owners, including kindling to get your fire started. There is a small walking path along the creek, which we walked until it ran out the wandered through the woods where we came across a deer.
For those who like to stay indoors, there is a TV in the living room and bedroom with Directv, a DVD player, a drawer of dvd's a radio with a disc player, and some relaxing cd's.
City folk beware... Driving into town takes about 20 minutes and it gets very dark at night. Roads are a bit windy, so I would suggest making sure you have everything you need for the night, especially if you're not used to the area, or are used to fast convenience. There are gas stations as you get closer to, or leave from town on the way to or from the house, but still not right around the corner. Also, Wifi is not great. It didn't bother me, but my daughter was not used to having her phone attached to her hand the whole trip.
I very much recommend Sleepy Creek. It is the perfect place for a peaceful, country hideaway.
The cabin was just as described, but the atmosphere was indescribable. The creek is so peaceful, and we literally had the same doe grazing and resting around the cabin throughout the duration of our stay. It was great. The Cottage Cafe had amazing iced lattes and friendly staff, and the town of Berkeley Springs has great antique stores. The only downside was that most stores/restaurants were closed Monday and Tuesdays. This was the same in Hancock, a town nearby, as well. Getting to Cacapon State Park was easy, and the hiking there was fun. Stay here! You won't regret it.
The cabin is located 10 minutes from downtown Berkeley Springs, WV best known for it's spas and hot springs.
