This apartment has been a labor of love. From the moment I walked in I knew I wanted to buy it cause of the good vibes and light.
tatyana murray purchased this apartment in 1998
The joy of closing the door and escaping the hussle and bussle of city life is priceless. This apartment is truly a jewel. An oasis.
The roof garden is private with no one overlooking you, which is extremely rare in the city. The roof is fully equipped with cutlery, hose, automatic watering system and lights for the evening creating a very dreamy romantic atmosphere.
Place was clean and convenient. For us, location was perfect! Surprisingly quiet as well. The rooftop garden was a lovely place and made the place seem twice as big. The only drawback might be climbing several flights of stairs. If you are not in good shape and used to walking up steep stairs, this may not be the place for you.
This was our second time staying in Tatanya's excellent apartment and it was just as good this time around. Everything is as advertised and the rooftop deck is unparalleled. The location couldn't be better and Tatanya is very responsive and easy to deal with. If you can handle several flights of steep stairs, don't hesitate to stay here!
We had an amazing time here -- the apartment was easy to get to and get in, was beautifully laid out, decorated and clean! The roof deck/garden is a wonderful spot to sit with some wine or coffee and watch and listen to the city. Close to the Astoria Place subway stop and plenty of cabs nearby so easy to get around -- if you want to leave the neighborhood, that is! Several really fantastic restaurants/bars within a couple blocks (check out the cafe directly across for a wonderful breakfast/brunch!). A wonderful place that we'll always remember and try to come back to.
Only warning -- fourth/fifth floor walk up, so if steep stairs are a concern, may not be for you.
We were absolutely thrilled with this apartment. Immaculately clean, spacious (by NYC standards!), lots of light, fully equipped kitchen, it was perfect for us. Conveniently located for walking to lots of our favorite spots: Union Square, Russ & Daughters, Kiehl's, The Strand, Momofuku Milk Bar, The Italian Wine Merchant. And we discovered L'il Frankies and Baohaus to add to our favorites list. We were able to load up on goodies at the Union Square Farmer's Market and cook some fun dinners to enjoy at our private rooftop garden dining table. Having a beautiful outdoor space to unwind with a glass of wine after a big day of hiking the city was so delightful! And when it was time to turn in, the bed was very comfortable and cozy with lovely linens. We are big fresh air people and the option to have the windows open is imperative. New York isn't quite by any means, but this is as quiet a place as we have ever experienced, even though you are only 5 stories above the action.
Tatyana is delightful, gracious, and very helpful, very generous and responsive to any questions we had. It is so obvious that she's a talented artist in the way the apartment is arranged and decorated. She provides all the comforts of home, generously allows use of her computer (WiFi was fast and easy to log onto).
We hope to be able to return, and hope this apartment will be available when we do! We would definitely recommend it to our friends and family for their NYC adventures.
The only reason this doesn't get five stars is because of the stairway - just a heads up. Taking large suitcases up the stairs is a challenge and visitors should just be prepared for that. The apartment itself, and Tatyana, get five stars. Well decorated, well located, and the roof garden is a great place to just relax and feel a little open space in the City that you can call your own while you are there. The double pane windows keep City noise to a minimum, there are lots of options for foodies in the immediate area, and the subway is a short walk away. Walking the area itself is also enjoyable, and if you are a real walker you can get to the theater district easily. And one other "perk"...there is a wonderful coffee shop right next store where you can buy your own beans or a simple cup (or something more complex if that's your thing). Highly recommended for anyone who wants to be in the City and still have a place to slow down and relax at the end of the day.
My stay couldn't have been better! The apartment is a perfect size, comfortable with enough space to relax. The roofdeck is such a gem - really enjoyed spending time there after a busy day, winding down with a bottle of wine and some good company. It's convenient to the subway, grocery stores & great restaurants, and Tatyana was always in close communication whenever there was a question. Can't wait to come back & stay again soon!!
