Great view, overpriced house

  • 3 of 5

The view of Lake Michigan from sunrise to sunset was nothing short of amazing. It was so convenient to walk out to the water and sit around a campfire. Unfortunately, the house was less appealing and definitely not set up for more than one couple to stay. I would not recommend this place for anymore than one couple with only 1-2 children due to the size including the small bathroom. I do not feel as though the experience lived up to the total price we paid for this quick getaway.

Clean and cozy

  • 3 of 5

The cottage met our expectations and needs for our stay. The location is phenomenal, right on the beach/ lake Michigan but it was rather small. Perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids but much more than that would be cramped. Our biggest issue was the lack of phone service and wifi, be prepared for neither.

Very Pleasant Stay!

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean and cozy, the perfect size for the two of us and our two dogs! The bathroom was maybe a little small, but otherwise we had a great time. The owners were extremely nice and great to talk to, as well.

Very bad experience.

  • 1 of 5

We ended up leaving two days early because we were so uncomfortable in this cabin. I wrote a lengthy letter to the owner (we have NEVER complained about a rental before) which stated our concerns, which were not ever specifically addressed. I expected the bathroom to be small as previous reviews stated. I did not expect it to me miniscule and barely the size of an airplane bathroom. My family are all thin. This bathroom was so uncomfortable for us that we dreaded having to use it. I cannot imagine a "non-thin" person being able to stand in it. While it did appear newer and clean, that didn't make up for the fact that my husband and son (both over 6 ft tall) had to sit sideways on the toilet to fit and could not fit in the shower without their shoulders touching the walls. It was impossible to use the mini sink to wash up-trying to wash your face was ridiculous as water would splash everywhere. No place to put bathroom toiletries. The shower head really didn't work well after it was "fixed" on Sunday by the caretakers. By Wed. it was not working again. The carpeted areas stunk. I realize rentals aren't going to have luxurious bed linens but these were pretty bad. Not every bed had a full set of linens. The beds upstairs had fitted sheets and an old threadbare, itchy comforter (hopefully that gets washed between each visit since there was no flat sheet for a barrier. No set of sheets for the futon. All pillows flat. The two "closets" smelled really bad. No place to functionally put clothes. The back door did not lock. The kitchen screen was broke so we couldn't leave that window open because mosquitoes immediately got it. Neither sink plug worked so I couldn't fill a sink with soapy water to wash dishes -no dishwasher. No spatula, pizza cutter or ice cream scoop. Cutting board too stained to use. Beach completely overgrown. Due to the long weeds (I have pictures) there was no space at all to spread out chairs and get comfortable- no space at all for my kids to play sand volleyball, soccer. The water was so cold that it was unbearable to swim in (not the owners fault I realize-just a warning to future visitors). The grass needed cut ;landscaping overgrown and weedy. No air conditioner. Tap water smelled and tasted bad-which another renter mentioned as well while we were there. Overall this was just a very bad experience. I truly wish we would have stuck with our typical condo on the ocean vacation.......

Great location, horrible shower

  • 3 of 5

First of all, Kay was very responsive and kind when I inquired about the property and had questions. We loved the location of the cottage and the beach. We were expecting the cottage to be small and basic, and it was. The open living room/dining area makes it feel a little bigger, though. If you need luxury, this is not the place for you. Also realize there is no wi-fi and you will most likely not get a cell signal. Again, this was not necessarily a bad thing for us. My kids liked sleeping in the loft, but I would not recommend it for families with young kids. We were fine with the tiny kitchen and the very basic linens, but the tiny bathroom and shower was the deal breaker for us ever returning. Unfortunately, my 10 yr old daughter was the first one to shower and find that there was very little water pressure and it simply cycled between ice cold and scalding hot the entire time it was on. You could try to rinse off the suds in the moments in between the extremes. This was very frustrating.
