Les Pommiers is a 'home from home' where families and friends can relax and enjoy complete tranquillity in an unparalleled rural setting. The large, well equipped farmhouse kitchen with Lacanche cooker opens on to a terrace at the rear and a traditional balcony overlooking a grassy courtyard at the front. A vine covered pergola provides shade overlooking the swimming pool. Alternatively, a delightfully cool salon with large French doors opens on to the courtyard as does a garden room which also opens out at the end of the house. It is a proper holiday home, furnished for our comfort and taste. When it comes to vineyards, one is spoilt for choice being within reach of Beaune and the Cote d'Or, the Maconais, Beaujolais and even the Cote du Rhone. Should your appetite for sight-seeing and wine tasting begin to pall then relaxing with a good book by the pool, enjoying the abundant bird life, or walking in the surrounding countryside should do the trick.
We have just had a great holiday while staying in this wonderful house. Situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, this is a creatively and lovingly restored old farmhouse. It is totally private, with spacious gardens and a large pool.
We are a family of six and stayed there with two friends. The house is very generous and the layout of the rooms is so designed that everyone had their own space.
We enjoyed breakfast on the sunny terrace in front of the kitchen in the garden with roses, apple and quince trees. Cooking was a pleasure in the very well equipped large kitchen with professional stove, and the food tasted even better for being eaten under a shady vine overlooking the pool, herbgarden and lavenderbeds.
We discovered lots of places in the house to enjoy our wine in the evenings; a high covered porch overlooking the old courtyard with its lawn and deep blue hortensia growing up the old stable wall, or the gardenroom with french windows opening into the garden, or another generous sitting room, also with french windows towards the courtyard.
Despite being so rural, there is a very well stocked Supermarche in a village a 12 minute drive away. There are many cultural attractions within a 45 minute drive from the house and we gained many wonderful impressions of this lovely part of France. For the children, needless to say there was nothing better than playing and swimming in the pool.We had many a game of Badminton or Boule in the large garden behind the house.
We had a wonderful time and are planning on going back!
We have had a great vacation in this beautiful house on the French countryside. We were two families renting together and the house is well fitted for two families with large dining tables and many bedrooms. The location is truly beautiful although you have to be prepared that you are very much on the countryside far from everything. We spent most of the time around the house, in the pool and running the nice hills around the property.
The pool had a great temperature even though we had some less sunny days - it stayed around 25 degrees constantly. There great places for playing football and other games around the house - good for us with a lot of active boys.
We highly recommend this house and would definately consider renting again. Maybe in the autumn in combination with some wine tasting in the area.
I stayed in this house with the whole of my family and our 6 month old baby in July of this year. I would highly recommend this property for families with young children as there is lots of space and it doesn't matter how much noise you make (screaming baby!). The pool is fantastic as it has lots of loungers and umbrellas and plenty of shade for little babies to sleep in. The views are truly stunning all around and sitting by the pool is so peaceful.
Although there are quite steep hills around the house, there is a perfect short 'pram walk' circuit which baby was taken around daily courtesy of granny!
Kitchen is amazing, with everything you could possibly wish for (a microwave would have been a bonus, simply for baby related things).
The house feels just like a home rather than a holiday house - we relaxed straight away, helped along with lots of gin & tonics on the terrace.
Don't hesitate in booking this house, i'm sure you won't be disappointed if you are wanting a quiet, relaxing break.
My family of 7 including my grandson of 6 months had the most wonderful relaxing 2 week holiday at Les Pommiers in late July/early August 2011.
A 12 hour door to door journey brought us to Les Pommiers in the early evening even after a stop at the Cooperative in Buxy to stock up on wine!
The house is very spacious with large roomy bedrooms and lots of space to chill out in sun or shade and get away quietly to read a book.
The views are truly amazing - in every direction! And there ae some lovely walks but quite hilly! A car is needed to get to the nearest shops and bars.
Arriving on a Saturday night it is useful to know that the only supermarket open on Sunday is the Atac in Cluny open till 12 and on Monday the Intermarche.
The swimming pool is a bit on the cold side but we found that early evening is the best time to swim and you can enjoy the sunset over the 'Mary'.
A true feature of the property is the kitchen - complete with Lacanche range! Big enough for everyone to gather and eat and a plus for us as my future son in law is a chef and loved having 5 gas rings and an electric oven! Tthe rest of us sat on the terrace outside enjoying the sun, a glass of wine and chopping!
Hence we did not eat out very much and found it a bit disappointing. the St Laurent in Macon was not what is used to be. A cafe in Cluny where the road narrows and the bollards are offered an excellent plat du jour! And said chef and daughter went to Monceau les Mines to a 1 Michelin star restaurant which they said was excellent and very good value!
The house was immaculately clean and very comfortable. Lots of outside chairs and tables, umbrellas and sun loungers and a travel cot was provided free of charge.
We would all highly recommend Les Pommiers for a quiet family holiday and would go again.
We had a week here at the end of August 2010, the house is beautiful, loads of space for all to find peace but also room to be together. Lots of different areas outside to find sunshine or shade. Kids loved the pool cold for the adults though!! very rural setting, bakers 12 mins away we loved it. Scenery stunning.
listing very accurate photos do not do all the house justice bedroom with 4 single beds huge.
would definitely return.
This imaginatively converted farmhouse is a family home fabulously situated with a secluded pool affording stunning views across the Charollais countryside. The area has chateaux, Romanesque churches, vineyards and local markets. For the energetic there is horse riding, tennis, fishing and walking all within easy reach. The towns of Beaune, Chalons, Charolles, Cluny, Macon, Paray le Monial and Tournus, are within exploration range and provide a wealth of interest, including all the modern amenities such as supermarkets, cinemas and specialist shops. France's Second City, Lyon, can be reached by train from Macon or a 90 minute car journey which gives opportunities to experience the world renowned Opera, Art Galleries and Michelin Star restaurants.
