We are native Montanans, Joe is a CPA, I am a retired Insurance Agency owner. We have invested in farms & ranches for the past 20+ years. Between us we have 8 children, ages 16 to 36....
Melanie Vankoten- Eve purchased this cabin in 2005
Both Montanan natives, we moved from the eastern side of the state to the Valley many years ago. Living in Whitefish & Rollins before settling in Lakeside, we decided Flathead Lake is our favorite place to be summer or winter. The views are amazing in any season, the lake an ever-changing tapestry with wind, snow & ice, sunshine & blue skies, fog, rain, sunrises & sunsets. We are on the lake for summer fun but also close to ski areas in the winter....
WOW! Montana at its finest! The Flathead Lake is amazing area .... whatever the season, the views change daily! Central location for you to base from while you enjoy your summer/fall/winter vacation plans.
Just got back from a marvelous stay at Flathead Lake. Mel and Joe were great hosts, assisting us with various things, and even providing a great welcoming basket of goodies for us to enjoy! The location is pristine, and in the best spot on the entire lake. Town of Lakeside is full of friendly, helpful, and modest people. No elitism here. Just hard working people trying to assure your pleasure, while visiting this piece of heaven. Hiked Glacier National, a short 45 minutes away, and saw the beautiful town of Whitefish, and Kalispell. Whitefish lake is a must also, and can be reached in 30 minutes from the cabin. Tamarak Brewery in town is great. We purchased a growler and filled it with a fresh new brew every couple of days. Pulled our boat to Flathead, and the dock and facilities at this cabin are wonderful with great mooring, dock lights, and great ladder to lake providing for wonderful late afternoon swims. Can't imagine going a year without returning to this special place. Oh, and buy the way, returned with over 25 pounds of Mackinaw fillets in the cooler. What fun!
See you all next year........
We had a very nice stay at the cabin. It had all the amenities necessary and Melanie even let us use their boat dock for our boat because the lake was pretty rough when we got there. Our only disappointment was that we could never connect to the Internet which I guess happens there sometimes.
We really enjoyed staying at this property. The cabin has terrific views of the lake and close access to the city of Lake Side and lake access. The cabin was well furnished and kept very clean. The queen bed could use a new mattress. The firewood for the fire place doesn't fit real well in the fire place. But overall this was a very nice get away for us. The views from the deck were terrific it was just what we were looking for.
We rented this cabin for 3 nights for our anniversary and were overwhelmed by how nice it was. Mel and Joe allowed us to bring our dogs and they had a great time playing in the woods and by the waterfront. The cabin was very clean and cozy, especially with the wood burning stove going in the evenings. The kitchen had more than enough supplies to cook whatever we wanted. It was October when we were here and we had beautiful fall weather. I can't wait to go back here again.
I recently stayed at the Lakeside Cabin of Melanie's with my 2 young Labradors. They absolutely LOVED being able to swim all day, and I loved the peacefulness and tranquility of the location and being on the water. The cabin was neat and clean and had everything I needed to cook dinners during my stay, including the nicest barbecue grill I've ever used! And the views across the lake of the Mission mountains was just wonderful! Melanie was also a great host and made sure I had everything I needed. We will definitely return!
I have a unique challenge when selecting a VRBO property: I'm a single guy escaping a very busy life, so it's just usually me traveling and I want something cozy and comfortable. This cabin on Flathead Lake was perfect. Single bedroom with wonderful views of the lake, a private dock for me and the rented watercraft, plenty of space and just 1.5 miles outside of Lakeside. There's a gas grill, and a full kitchen, and I made most of my meals at home. Afternoons were spent on the water or reading on the dock, and I did a morning workout on the front porch. Melanie and Joe were available part of my trip, and their kids were terrific - I needed help figuring out how to park the jet ski and there's Jacques to assist! I make this trip to my home state every summer, and each property I've selected has been a delight. I highly recommend the rental. Plus, you have the world's most wonderful dog-host, Matador.
