The Brown Pelican Guest House is named in respect for the native Eastern Brown Pelican that fishes our coast daily. Built in 1928, this charming house is nestled in the Historic Fort Crockett Neighborhood of Galveston’s military past located in the central area of the island. The upstairs portion of the house offers two bedrooms, each has a queen sized bed and twin sized trundle beds.
Only a block and a half from the beach, you can see the ocean from the second story of the house. Just a short walk or drive to all seawall attractions, including restaurants, shopping, fishing piers, bike and jet ski rentals, and the newly opened Historic Pleasure Pier! Less than a ten minute drive will get you to Schlitterbahn and Moody Gardens. The Strand Historic District offers walkable shopping, eateries, and bars. The island also offers many historic mansion tours and has several museums.

My family stayed a week there incuding kids and we absolutly loved the house. Bill is so kind and welcoming to his home. Its is perfect distance from everything and a walk way from the beach. I recomend this house it is perfect!
The house is very charming and very well decorated equipped with everything you need. The backyard was nice with a back patio grill and furniture. The landlord was very informative and friendly. We didn't even have to drive to the beach just took a short walk across the corner and street. The only problem I had was the door was very hard to lock/unlock but other than that I would definitely rent this property again.
what a wonderful vacation stay, the property is beautiful and extremely well maintained. the owner is very friendly and offered information on best places to visit and eat while we were there. the house is beautiful and decorated in harmony with the age and the grounds are well maintained and look fantastic. the kitchen is fully functional with cooking utinsels and dishes and is a pleasure to prepare food in.
We couldn't have been happier with our stay at the Brown Pelican Beach House. We took our three granddaughters and had the best time. Love Mr. Bill - he was so helpful with information about Galveston and what restaurants might be best with little ones, times of low tide/high tide, places to go and things to do. We took his advice and took the Ferry, ate at Millers, and made the most of low tide at the beach. Would definitely stay at the Brown Pelican again!!! Thank you Bill for everything and for locating our lost bathing suits!!!
This house is so close to the beach! Lots of places on the seawall don't actually make it easy to access the beach/sand, but this was perfect.
There was a grill in the backyard available for easy use, and we spent a lot of the weekend on that back patio. The air conditioning in the house worked great, and we all had an easy night's sleep.
Thanks for the great trip!
What a great stay and such a steal! This house was very accommodating for our group of 5 adults, 2 teenage boys, 3 kids. Plenty of bath towels, dishes/silverware and sitting room. The rooms were much larger than I was expecting. They comfortably fit 4 people each + luggage. I slept on the couch due to having a baby in a pack 'N play and even the couch was a good nights sleep! We brought a baby gate for the stairs and had no issues in regards to that. With there only being 1 shower, we had to be a bit organized on scheduling bathroom time. Since there was a curtain on the outdoor shower, we just shampooed the kids out there after the beach! :) The outdoor shower was very pretty and even my husband threatened to shower out there. LOL A huge plus for me was the fact that the backyard is fenced in. I was able to give my 4 and 9 year old some freedom in running around. The backyard is beautifully landscaped - so much that we took family pictures up against the green foliage.
There is a window unit is almost every room which kept the house very comfortable. The kitchen does not have a unit so it does get hot in there after cooking a meal. We brought a portable fan and set it up to circulate the kitchen air which helped a lot. The only thing I did not see/find in the kitchen was steak knives. The fridge/oven/linens and overall house was very clean. The house was very homey and full of originality from the décor to the name carved in one of the stairs with the date "1968." There are books, games and wifi and cable for those relaxing nights or rainy days!
The owner went above and beyond to accommodate us! Even when a bad storm blew through one night and broke the outdoor table umbrella, he was there the next morning with a new umbrella and a smile on his face! He was very knowledgeable with the area, restaurants, and history of the place. It was a pleasure speaking with him. We come down to Galveston every year and we will definitely be booking the Brown Pelican again!
