|Minimum Stay||4 - 6 nights|
The Lil House is a four bedroom, three bath, house on stilts with a porch all the way around allowing for a breeze at anytime of the day or night. It has the best view of the sunset on Dauphin Island allowing for memorable front porch memories. The sandy yard with seawall just feet from the porch allows for the best of both island worlds--sand fun for the kids, and boat access for the sports enthusiast. The fishing from seawall/boardwalk is great both day and night. Dolphins are frequent visitors at Lil House and can often be seen swimming in front of the house. So whether you are a family with small children, or snowbirds looking for tranquility, or a fishing afficienado, the Lil House is for you!
I am a 49 year old mother of two middle schoolers living in Mobile, Alabama with my husband, Kevin. I own a coffee shop in the historic part of town called Cream & Sugar Café. We live just a short 35 minute drive from the island where we love ALL water sports and just watching the sunsets and dolphins....that never gets old!
Susan Carley purchased this house in 1974
My grandmother, Lil, built this beautiful island house in the early 70's and I grew up coming to the house every summer with my six cousins and two siblings. We have fond memories of running the seawall chasing porpoises, fishing morning and night, and crabbing with chicken bones with my grandmother. Now my children run the seawalls, catch our dinner, and swim in the very water that we did as children.
My uncle designed the house to be like a steamboat with a porch 'deck' all the way around the house, doors in every room that open out onto the 'deck', and water views from every window. The front porch with swing and rocking chairs offers the best sunset view on the island. It also sits so close to the seawall that the adults can sit in the shade (of upstairs or downstairs deck) and watch the kids as they swim, ski, or kayak in front of the house. Because the house is situated on a cul-de-sac, the children can ride their bikes and play safely with other neighborhood kids. The house faces the Mississippi Sound allowing for good fishing and boat access, but is directly across the street from Lafitte Bay which is a no wake zone and allows for great, safe place for kayaking or swimming. The house is just a short two block walk from the Gulf front beaches which gives you the option of a day at the beach or a day of watersports. The kids will also love sandcrabbing on the beach at night!
The most enjoyable, relaxing place to stay on Dauphin Island. There are wonderful views of the bay. You can sit on the porch and watch dolphins, and the sunsets are breathtaking. Convenient to Mobile and great local seafood restaurants. It is just a short walk to the Gulf. The house is well furnished and it always feels like home when we're there. You will not find a better owner to work with than Susan. She is very responsive and has furnished the house with everything you could possibly need. We can hardly wait until out next trip.
We spent a week on Dauphin Island in this lovely home with three teenage boys. The teen space was perfect for them as was the fishing off the porch! The home was clean, comfy and well-appointed.
We love the house it was a awesome week already planing our trip next year!
I loved the house. Plenty of room for all 8 of us and everyone was happy. The girls loved playing in the sand and the boys spent most of their time fishing. We took the canoe out and lounged around in the chairs most of the time. The house was exactly as listed and very clean. All in all a wonderful place to stay!! We went to JT's Sunset Grill a few times and Skinner's to get fresh seafood. We also got icecream almost every day from island rainbow and it was good. We just really enjoy relaxing in Dauphin Island!
We stayed here for a month and our whole experience was terrific! The house was comfortable and had all we needed. We enjoyed watching birds and dolphins right from our deck. We had a short, three block, walk to the beach which we had to ourselves many afternoons. When bad weather threatened, Susan even offered shelter at her own home. We enjoyed the restaurants and seafood shop. The bakery was one of our daily stops! We would definitely like to stay again! Karen and Rick
