Overview

About the property

Located on the calm east shore of beautiful Vancouver Island, this 3000 sq ft oceanfront vacation home offers stunning views of the gulf islands along the Stuart Channel. The natural setting of this property exudes a calm, tranquil atmosphere. A gentle sloping driveway leads to the house off of a quiet dead-end country road. Lush and fragrant plantings wrap the home in a cozy nest of green with a canopy of mature trees standing watch over the serene park-like setting of the property. Enchanting!

Walk out the large sliding glass windows on to the huge deck to take in the spectacular view. Marvel at the diverse wildlife in the area: eagles soar above and seals and waterfowl below provide natural entertainment. In the evening, be mesmerized by the moon rising above the islands from the romantic master suite with it’s own stunning view. Lull yourself to sleep listening to the waves lap against the shore or luxuriate in the two-person jaccuzi tub in the master bath.

Walk across the lawn and only six steps down to secluded Pebbled Beach to enjoy a wonderful day of beachcombing, swimming and sunbathing or, just sit and watch the continuous parade of sailboats and other vessels passing by. The famous sandstone rock formations of the Yellowpoint area create a small, protected cove and a sandbar in the bay helps warm the crystal-clear water to a comfortable swimming temperature.

The home itself welcome you in sophisticated and timeless style, its open floor plan allowing full presentation of the incredible views from the wall of windows facing the ocean and snow-capped mountain peaks of distant Vancouver. Perfect for entertaining and relaxing, the home features a gourmet kitchen complete with top-of-the-line appliances and appointments such as a full service wet bar adjoining the family room. The master suite contains its own en-suite with a top-of-the line jacuzzi whirlpool bath. Three bedrooms feature comfortable queen-size beds with the 4th bedroom also containing bunk beds for the kids. There is a caretakers suite on the property.

If you are looking for a true Vancouver Island seaside experience, this is it!

About George Uhrich or Fernanda Barnard

I am a retired software CEO. My partner Fernanda and I live in Vancouver Island in the summer months and in Mexico in the winter. We offer personal service with a friendly smile. You are welcome here!

George Uhrich or Fernanda Barnard purchased this house in 2009

Why George Uhrich or Fernanda Barnard chose Vancouver Island

I fell in love with the Yellow Point area of Vancouver Island. The natural beauty of the area is breathtaking. This house is situated on a private cove with a beautiful pebble beach and offer spectacular views from all windows. The big trees are enchanting and the ocean crystal clear. The house is luxurious and comfortable.

What makes this house unique

One of the only secluded beaches on Vancouver Island is just steps from the back lawn. Launch a kayak from the boathouse on the water and breath the sea air as you paddle around the unique sandstone rock formations on each side of the cove. Say Hi to the seals that live on seal rock.. only a short paddle away.

Spectacular, breath taking, stunning, wonderful and the list goes on...........

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks at Pebble Beach with my extended family and had a truly amazing vacation. The house is perfectly set up and has everything you need for entertaining and cooking. Our group consisted of 6 adults and 5 kids and we had ample room for everyone to enjoy. The kids spent the day at the beach experiencing the wonders of nature and that west coast experience.

The views from the deck and the property are spectacular. You cannot describe paradise.

We were doing a great deal of Salmon and Halibut fishing and Fernanda and George opened up an additional freezer to keep our catch in. They checked in on us a couple of times during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed, very lovely couple.

Thank you for a perfect holiday and everything you did for my family. We will return. Rick and Amina

A perfect waterfront Christmas in Canada

  • 5 of 5

We had a magical family Christmas with our extended family in this house, which is huge and beautiful. We were a party of eight adults and three little ones under three. The toddlers loved the open spaces and we all slept comfortably in well-appointed rooms. We even entertained our Nanaimo relatives more than once, who were as impressed with the home as we were. The hot tub saw a lot of use. The house was so well-equipped and thoughtfully arranged. The views were amazing and even the cold weather couldn't keep us from spending time on the water. Ladysmith is such a nice location on its own that we ended up spending much more time here than we had expected to. We found walking trails, the local pub, the Crow and Gate is a great experience, the small local grocery store was very nice and the nearby pizza place was good too. We have already decided that when we have another family visit, we would love to rent this house again. I can't say enough good things about this rental experience. The whole process was made it so easy for us, and this house rental truly enhanced our holiday getaway.

This house was perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

This house worked very well for our group of 8 which included children, their parents and grandparents. Being right on the water, we could play in the water, then eat lunch, use the hot tub, go kayaking to see the seals, all without leaving the property. We ate, alternately, on the patio, in the kitchen and in the dining room depending on the meal and how many of us there were. There was a small grocery store about 10 minutes away, and even a Costco in Nanaimo (about 1/2 hour away) for our large, initial shopping. We made a day trip to Parksville to see the sand sculptures, to Cathedral Grove to see the amazing Douglas firs, and to Tofino on the west coast - all from this house. The owners were wonderfully responsive to the one problem that arose and we were barely inconvenienced. Just a few minutes away is a Saturday farmers' market at which we stocked up on fresh vegetables, smoked salmon and trout, jam and breads. Everything in this house was lovely. We have stayed at other VRBOs and this was the best!

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5

We booked the home for the month of February. It is a spacious home with a view of the water. On arrival we learnt the caretaker suite on the property is the lower level of the home which therefore makes this home a shared house, yard and driveway. The hot tub is outside the caretakers windows so there is no privacy.

The home advertises 2 fireplaces - the natural gas is not hooked up and we were unable to use the wood fireplace you see in the photos. You also see a bottle of wine on the table in the photos, but there wasn't one for us.

The master bedroom has no dresser but a locked walk in closet. The bed is one mattress on a wood frame that is very low to get in and out off. The pillows simply need to be replaced. We did not sleep well in this bed at all.

The kitchen dishes and some glasses needed to be rewashed, small appliances needed to be wiped down and the fridge and freezer had not been emptied out. We also found the house dusty in places.

The house lacked basic supplies for anyone staying even a short time. The bathroom soap dispensers were empty and of all things a bar of Irish Spring soap left for us to use. We borrowed a set of wine glasses, hangers and a pillow from the caretaker.

We have stayed at many houses, this was the first house we had to buy the salt and pepper, paper products, hand soap, garbage bags and even a dust pan. Previous homes we have stayed in strive to make the home as a place you would want to return by providing quality bedding, sparkling home and the features as advertised and paid for. We just didn't get any of that in this house and therefore this house was simply a disappointment. We feel the add advertised features we did not receive and for the cost we can find any house by the water for the same price or less and have the privacy, the featured items we were looking for and most of all be able to sleep in a nice bed.

Owner's Response: Dear Lorrie: Thank you very much for your candid review of your recent stay at our Home. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, as we strive to improve with each and every stay. Up until your review, we have had only 4 and 5 star reviews for our property! However, we greatly appreciate your comments about aspects of the house that could be improved. It is a pleasure to announce that we will be implementing many of these upgrades immediately. Our rooms will be getting new pillows, additional wine glasses, and much more! Although the bed you slept in (in the Master Bedroom) has had great reviews from all of our other guests, (one person said that they have never had a better night’s sleep than in that bed) we realize that it is a designer bed and is lower to the floor than a standard bed, and that may be an issue for some people. We take great pride in offering a wonderful experience to our guests, and our main priority is to be able to offer a very well-maintained and comfortable atmosphere. Please reach out to me trough VRBO, if you would be willing to give us a chance to turn your experience around. It would be a pleasure to personally welcome you back for another stay with these improvements in place. As to the issue of the caretaker staying at the lower area of the house, we always advise in our home description for our guests to let us know if you prefer other arrangements, and some guests have asked us for more privacy (in which case we have made arrangements to vacate the lower level) and some guests are happy to have someone there to assist if there are any problems or they just need some information or assistance during their stay. We are very sorry you did not notice that part of the home description, as we would have been happy to make changes to accommodate your desires. With much appreciation, Fernanda and Geo

Pebble Beach Paradise Vacation Home is located on the sandstone shoreline near Yellow Point, BC.

Yellow Point is located in the tranquil and picturesque countryside of the east coast of Vancouver Island, on a broad forested peninsula that juts out into the waters of Stuart Channel in the Strait of Georgia.

The rolling landscape of Yellow Point area is rural and mostly undeveloped, providing all the pleasures of country living. The small community of Cedar on Yellow Point Road is the main settlement in Yellow Point.

Yellow Point is a small resort area facing DeCourcy, Ruxton, Pylades, Valdes and Thetis Islands. Unique to Yellow Point are its interesting sandstone rock outcroppings. The community offers a wide array of craft shops and cottage industries, with products ranging from stained glass to pottery, paper mache and linens.

Ideally situated between Nanaimo and the picturesque town of Ladysmith, Yellow Point is centrally located for day trips on the island, and the close proximity to Nanaimo provides convenient access to the amenities of the city and two of the island's major ferry terminals. Nanaimo Airport is also located right beside Highway 19 in Yellow Point.

When driving the Island Highway, a detour through the forests and farmland of Yellow Point makes for a rather pleasant break, and an opportunity to visit one of the many seafront parks on the peninsula or the renowned Crow and Gate British Pub up the road towards Cedar.

Freshwater Fishing: Quennell Lake off Yellow point Road is known for its good smallmouth bass and trout fishing, as is the nearby Holden Lake. Long Lake and Brannen Lake are situated 3 miles (5 km) north of the Nanaimo city centre. They're both easy to locate on opposite sides of Hwy 14. There are trout and smallmouth bass at Long Lake, and cutthroat and rainbow trout at Brannen Lake.

Golf: Nanaimo and the areas to the north have seen the proliferation of golf courses with a view. Tee off on any of 20 golf courses within an hour's drive of Nanaimo. Courses range from family mini-golf to demanding 18-hole courses with beautiful views. Located in Nanaimo is the Nanaimo Golf Club, 3 miles (5 km) north of the city, a demanding 18-hole course with beautiful views of the water, and two 9-hole courses; Pryde Vista Golf Club and the Eaglequest Golf Centre. Near Yellow Point are Cottonwood Golf Course and Mount Brenton Golf Course.

Diving: Nanaimo and the Northern Gulf Islands are prime destinations for discerning scuba divers. Explore Nanaimo's first artificial reef, created by the sinking of the HMCS Saskatchewan, a retired Navy destroyer sunk off Snake Island in June 1997. The HMCS Cape Breton is the largest artificial reef in the world, located off Snake Island (a bird sanctuary), near Nanaimo. Notable coastal dive spots include Dodd Narrows, the Gabriola Passage (soon to be a marine life sanctuary), Four Fathom Reef, Carlos Island, Porlier Pass, Clarke Rock and the popular night diving location, Jesse Island, which boasts at least three separate and distinct dive sites in very sheltered conditions.

Bungy Jumping: For those who prefer falling over walking, Nanaimo claims to be the home of North America's first and only brid built specifically for bungee jumpers. Thrill seekers can experience the ultimate high at the Wild Play Element Park. You can watch or jump from this 140-foot (42-m) bridge above the Nanaimo River, located south of Nanaimo and signposted along the highway.

Hiking: Visitors looking for outdoor walks and hikes don't have to go far. The surrounding area offers an amazing range, quality and quantity of trails. The wild and natural trails at Cable Bay and Dodd's Narrows are popular, as are Yellow Point Park and Hemer Provincial Park.

Paddling: As much as the ocean dominates the landscape near Yellow Point, there are several freshwater lakes where paddlers will find serenity in a rural setting.

South of Yellow Point on the Island Highway is the spirited, picturesque community of Ladysmith, with streets lined with charming and restored heritage buildings. Further south, explore the mural-filled town of Chemainus, with its charming stores and restaurants and live performances at its popular theatre building.

BC Ferries operates a scheduled ferry service between Departure Bay in Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay on the north shore of Vancouver, and from Duke Point in Nanaimo to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, south of Vancouver. Nanaimo Airport is located just 15 minutes south of downtown and serves an average of 20 flights daily between Nanaimo and Vancouver, Abbotsford and Langley. An airport shuttle service, taxis, and car rentals are available at the airport. You can also opt to fly into Nanaimo harbour's seaplane terminal in the heart of downtown. Service is frequent and offers spectacular scenery en route.
