We have moved our rental business to the other major rental site starts with "Air...". Also note, we are adding a new home (3 bed/2 bath) in the same neighborhood late Spring 2017. Please look for us there. Thank you to our guests!
Go on a hike and look for elk and deer, snuggle by the fire, take a trip to Astoria or Cannon Beach, and enjoy the beautiful Oregon coast! Our stretch of beach is beautiful, but not crowded and just a quick walk away.
You will fall in love with the location and details of the Norway Cottage. We are nestled in between Sunset (Neacoxie) Lake and the grand Pacific Ocean at Sunset Beach. You can walk to either easily. The minute you arrive, you will be greeted with a Welcome Basket of wine, coffee & creamer so you can start enjoying your vacation immediately without worrying about the details.
Our 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home has been completely remodeled. We kept the old 1933 charm, but updated everything else!! (Windows, siding, flooring, electrical, plumbing, walls, you name it) You will love the cozy gas fireplace, new modern kitchen, open layout, glass mosaic tiles in the bathroom, and luxurious bedding for both of the bedrooms.
The living room is surprisingly large and is furnished with a flat screen TV, cable and Blu-Ray DVD player. House is equipped with WiFi, so you can stay connected with work, or family and friends. We provide dozens of DVDs for you to enjoy, as well as lots of family games.
The kitchen features ample, brand new hickory cabinets, a gas range and oven, built-in microwave, instant hot and all the comforts of home. You can make large dinners with ease. There is built-in seating and a large table to accommodate up to 6 people. We pride ourselves in supplying the house with the kitchen basics that most rentals do not have. You will find a large variety of spices, foil, baggies, and more.
The master bedroom is directly across from the bathroom and features a very comfortable queen size bed, luxurious bedding and pillows, night tables and dimmer lights on both sides of the bed. You can sit in bed and watch the 32' TV, either cable or a DVD, or kick back in on of the vintage wicker chairs to read a book. We have an IHome in the room so you can wake up to your own music.
The 2nd bedroom is great for kids or a 2nd couple. There is a built in full size bed and across the room a twin bunk bed. The rooms' nautical decor is quaint and sure to please. There is a TV, cable and Xbox 360 system (which also doubles as a DVD player) so everyone will be pleased and have something to do. Six drawers of under bed storage here to keep you organized and comfy.
The cottage also has a great entryway to hang your coats, towels, and take off your shoes (Please!) If you do need to do laundry, there is a washer/dryer in the laundry room that you can use as well.
Need to clean off after coming home from the beach? Please wash off in our hot/cold exterior washing station on the S. side of the house. This will keep the house, the bathroom and your tootsies clean and happy.
In the garage you wil find a BBQ, ping pong table, beach toys, sports equipment, cruiser bikes, skim boards, body boards, life jackets, fishing poles, clam guns, and more ammenities to make your stay pleasurable.
The Norway Cottage is a fantastic, vintage cottage for your beach get-a-way. This is not a musty, drafty, old beach cottage. This is a beautiful new home in a lovely beach neighborhood that is a perfect spot for a family or couples getaway.
Please send us any questions you may have and thank you for your interest. We have another home in Oakridge on "the other" vacation rental site you might want to check out--Especially if you're interested in mountain biking!
My husband Kurt and I are original Oregonians. We both grew up in the Portland area (me the East, him the West). We work in the corporate world and have a blended family of 5 children ages 18-25. The picture is of us at Martha's Vineyard in April 2012--we were taking a break from remodeling the cottage.
Kurt Malmedal purchased this cottage in 2011
When we found the 1933 beach cottage, we looked past all the work it needed and fell in love with the area. Both of us had grown up going to the beach all up and down the Oregon Coast, but neither of us had been to Sunset Beach. When we drove around and saw how perfect the location was, the vision of the Norway Cottage began to take shape. We think you will love the location as much as we do.
The Norway Cottage is our 2nd vacation property. We also own a very popular home in Oakridge that mountain bikers from all over the US come to. (On the other vacation rental site).
The Norway Cottage is located almost equal distance between Seaside and Astoria, a little bit away from the hub-bub of the towns, but close enough to make a quick trip if you desire. Our favorite aspect of the cottage is the location. Neacoxie Lake is literally 250 yards to the E. of the cottage. You can fish, and boat in the lake. There is a small playground, picnic area and boat ramp there as well. If you'd rather spend time at the ocean, either ride a bike, walk or drive the 1/4 mile straight down Sunset Beach lane and you are at one of the best beaches in Oregon. In Oregon there are only a few beaches that allow you to drive on the beach--we're one of them. Makes loading up the car with kids, chairs, beach toys and picnic food awesome. Drive down, find a spot and start enjoying the beach without having to lug everything from a parking lot a mile away.
Have a boat you're bringing to the coast? We have parking for a 40' trailer as well. Cullaby lake is a mere 5 minutes away too if you want to trailer your boat there, or you can put in at the Sunset Beach lake dock.
We enjoyed our stay in the blue cottage the fishing was a little slow but always enjoyed coming back to the cottage. Will recommend it to all our friends.
Property was very nice and clean. We had a great stay and would use this property again if in the Astoria area.
This house is amazing.... Perfect location to enjoy the laid back sunset beach, and a quiet neighborhood. When you need entertainment or a place to eat, you can drive 10 minutes to seaside or 10 minutes to Astoria and your in tourist heaven!
Love this place. Perfect location and perfect place to relax and sleep. Beautifully and functionally decorated . Beds are very, very comfortable.
Loved it all. Didn't have the time to use the bikes or the firepit. We are planning on doing this again next year. Loads of fun.
I very much appreciate this owner. Very good communication. Didn't list one price, then add a bunch of hidden fees, like other VRBO owners do. Price is very reasonable considering what you get. The house is very comfortable, easy to find and well stocked with ordinary needs and other amenities. We walked to the beach from the house and played at the park across the street. There is so much to do in the area that we didn't get to everything on our list. In just 2 1/2 days we saw the Astoria Column, Youngs River Falls, the Elk, Battery Russell, the South Jetty, Cannon Beach and Seaside (they have the COOLEST toy store there!) Our family had a great time. I highly recommend this house, this owner, this location.
The Norway Cottage is 150 yards W. of Sunset Beach park which has a playground, picnic areas, a basketball court, volleyball net, and boat ramp into Sunset (also called Neacoxie) Lake. Continue West to the drive on Sunset Beach (1/4 mile) This is a fantastic beach! Between us and the beach is the Lewis & Clark National Historic Park with miles of hiking (to Fort Clatsop) and around the park. Go early in the AM, or at dusk and you will see deer or elk! Make sure you look at the beach marker poles too, there are often bald eagles perched there.
There are several golf courses to pick from in the area as well.
We are situated in between Astoria and Seaside. There are tons of activities in this part of the coast. Cullaby Lake is only about 3 miles away SE of us, and has a great playground and designated swimming areas. You can also waterski/jetski on that lake.
This area of the Northern Oregon Coast is less touristy than Seaside, but the beach is beautiful and great for campfires, building sand castles or take advantage of many of the other opportunities up or down the coast.
