Just returned from staying at this great villa with everything as described. The owners and property managers were very helpful with information and help before and during our stay.
Definitely need a car to access local amenities/shops (local Tabac was unfortunately closed during our stay) although there is a bus stop at the end of the road to get to La Cite and Carcassonne (1 Euro each way) (which also stops outside of Geant Supermarket) Around 45 mins to walk to La Cite and the local Lac de cavayere is 5 minutes by car or accessible by bikes available at the villa - the Lac is ideal for swimming and has inflatable slides/climbing frames for all ages to have a great day out - it was the start of the French school holidays and on Mondays the use of kayak's are free!! Bastille Day at La Cite was amazing - never seen a firework display quite like it.
Numerous value for money restaurants within La Cite (4 courses including a glass of wine for 22.50 Euros and found everyone very helpful and friendly
Would definitely recommend
Just this morning the kids were asking could we go back, they loved the pool, the playground. The house was great as per the reviews below. Just wanted to add the day trips we went on, the dinosaur museum in Esperza (could get them to leave), the caves in Limousis and the two days we went to the great lake complex just 5 minutes up the road - Lac de la Cavayere.
You wont regret a moment !!
Myself and family stayed in the villa for a week during August. We could not fault anything with the house. All the mod con's are supplied, villa is light and airy, clean and of course the added benefit of having a private pool. Our children absolutely loved it, within 5 minutes of getting there, they were in the pool. It is very close to the old city which is absolutely magnificant, close to shops and an ideal base for discovering the area. The owners left plenty of tourist info in the house which was a great help and their tips on when best to visit the old city and suggested restaurants.
I would gladly go back again.
We were a party of 5 visiting the region in August. Myself, husband and three boys - aged between 10 and 13.
I chose the property as it had its own pool, 4 bedrooms (so the boys could each have their own) and proximity to local attractions.
After a very long drive - stopping for two nights en route - we arrived at the property. The agent had left us the keys so we let ourselves in and checked out the house.
The area is very quiet. It is in a residential area, 5 minutes drive from Carcassonne. There is a large supermarket just 5 minutes drive in the other direction -which I used frequently.
The house was very spacious - much bigger than I was expecting from the advertisement. The boys' rooms were all down one end of the house, and we took the large room at the other end. There were two separate toilets - and a large bathroom with a double sink, shower, and corner bath. This meant that we didn't have to fight too much between us to get in a bathroom!
The house was well furnished, with sufficient sunloungers, outdoor dining table etc. There was a BBQ and a swing/slide set. (suitable for small children, i worried when our big kids went on it due to their weight..).
Bath towels and beach towels were provided for us. There was a washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, full over, separate hob etc. Fridge freezer and a huge freezer in the utility room. I found it very useful having the washing machine as it meant that we didn't have to take lots of clothes with us, just enough for 4/5 days.
The only complaint I would have is that the cleanliness was not quite up to my standards. I did clean all the toilets on arrival more than once, but there was still a lingering odour. I guess previous guests weren't drilled in toilet etiquette!!
We had a fantastic stay - and would quite happily stay in the villa again. We loved having the freedom to come and go when we pleased, use the pool or watch dvds. In a hotel if one kid wants to swim then the whole family has to trek down to the pool or beach , but in a private villa then everyone can do their own thing.
Lac de la Cavayere is very close, but we only had a short visit. We did plan an afternoon there, but it was on a day when the temp was 37C so we chose to hang out 'at home' instead so we could go in the shade. Parc Australien is close too, interesting enough for a trip.
We spent a week here last year (family with 4 kids aged 8-16) and I have to say top class. For a family or a group the villa has ample space and is kitted out top spec. The old town and the new town are both just down the road with great places to eat, markets and lively nightlife. As a bonus the place comes with a few bikes (hardly even used!) and we managed to get around the area on safe vine lined routes using pedal power. Great lake for the kids down the road with zip lines and other great activities. We highly recommend this place.
Everything was just like it was described on the web site. The owner and the local agent were both very friendly and flexible. The bikes and the swimming pool were excellent, as well as location of the villa if you have a car in use. Inside of the house was quite plain but very well working. We expected the house to be a little bit cleaner. I do not know the general practice but for us one of the first things to do was cleaning with a vacuum which of course was found from the house. The beds were totally lovely and clean and there were plenty of towels for use at the pool and so on. The kitchen was functional although some tools were missed. There were also different kinds of games and dvd-movies as well as color pencils and play cards for adults and kids. The weather was great at the end of June. Hard wind, which is quite common there in my understanding, settled down after the first day of our stay. Neighbor houses were very close but the yard with the pool was peaceful and in privacy. I would definitely recommend this property for any family. Our 2-months-old baby, 3-year-old and 17-year-old girl all had great time.
