About Robert Dean Jr.

The owners live in a Northern suburb of Philadelphia, and began searching for the perfect property to build a weekend home in 2000, and finally finished construction and took occupancy the day after Thanksgiving in 2004. The property is named "The Fourth Woods" which reflects a childhood memory of the owner. He and his brothers grew up in farm land area filled with forests and fields, and it was their daily playground. They would venture out from home and explore through several large tracts of woodland for several miles until reaching the ''Third Woods'' as they called it, which was deep, mysterious and as far as anyone would go. Time passed, drivers licenses and other interests took hold and Bucks County's suburban sprawl took the woodland. Fast forward a few decades; hunting and walking though this 50 acre mountain property reminded the owner of those days and just how much he enjoyed them and the outdoors. 'The Fourth Woods' seemed appropriate.

Robert Dean Jr. purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Robert Dean Jr. chose Newfoundland

As children, our family went on summer vacations to mountain lake areas such as Pennsylvania's Wallenpaupack, New Yorks Lake George and New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee. Fond memories of camping trips to Tobyhanna and Promised land State Parks, and visiting a friends house on Lake Wallenpaupack. We built our dream vacation home after a two year search for an ideal parcel of land. This one had all of the elements we were looking for; secluded and scenic, huntable woodland with a creek, and close to a large body of water that offered recreation. Not until after we moved in did it become apparent just how perfect our choice was as we kept discovering all that the surrounding small towns had to offer and the area within 30 minutes travel. We began implementing a wildlife habitat improvement program on the property in 2009 and clear cut two 1 acre wildlife crop fields and a 3 acre sanctuary.

What makes this cabin unique

This log cabin (home) is used frequently by its owners and therefore is furnished and maintained at a much higher standard than a 'rental only' property. The size of the property at '50 acres' of woodland, is a feature almost completely unique that most vacation rental homes simply don't have. The time, effort, and expense put forth in decorating the interior were an endeavor of love and enthusiasm and we think our home reflects that. It is a wonderfully relaxing and quiet setting. You can feel so comfortable and secluded at the cabin yet you are only a short distance from so many things like shopping, dining and many forms of entertainment and of course Lake Wallenpaupack. There are several public boat accesses and beaches around the 15 mile long lake. Best of all when at our cabin, you don't have to be near the sounds and bustle of the big lake 24/7, only when you want to be.

Extraordinary.... a vacation success!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I needed a place to stay, last minute, and we came across this listing. I feel so extremely fortunate to have found it. The owner responded within minutes of my request, was extremely helpful and easy to work with, and we were in the next day. When we arrived to the cabin, my husband and I were in awe. It’s charmingly tucked away in the woods, just enough to make you feel like you’re in your own world. Our children (ages 2, 3, and 5) loved exploring outside and really enjoyed all of the fun things to look at in the house … including the jacuzzi (bonus!). And, our dogs got to relax and enjoy the scenery. This cabin is beautiful, unique, relaxing, cozy, and filled with charm (and has possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in!). I could go on and on about how great it is! The thought and time that must’ve been put into building and decorating this place is extraordinary. In the end, our vacation was a complete success and we have wonderful memories. We look forward to going back soon. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!!

Owner's Response: Thank you Kelly for persisting in finding the link and then taking time out of your day to leave such a great review. I've said before how interesting and wonderful it is when some of our guests say the exact things we've felt and experienced about our home over the years. As you mentioned, the feeling of being in your own secluded little world yet close to so many things in the area. And yes our master bedroom bed is on record as being the most comfortable bed ever. Haha. Thank you for noticing. (But seriously it is) Thank you for taking good care of our home and we really look forward to hosting you again.

Relaxing, fun weekend

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing property. The home and the property is absolutely beautiful. 3 families stayed there this weekend and we weren't on top of each other. The 5 kids we had with us loved all the taxidermy and the deer that come right up to the house. Buy a bag of feed and every morning and night the deer will visit. There is also a well marked trail that goes through the property and down to a stream with a waterfall. Absolutely beautiful. Robert was a pleasure to do business with and was very accomadating. We will be returning next year but plan on staying longer. This property is a must see.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Adam for your wonderful compliments on our home. We regularly make improvements and upgrades to keep thing in top shape. You apparently read through our renters instructions and hints, and found out where to purchase deer feed and that there is a hiking trail. I think many people miss these things because they don't bother reading the instructions. And thank you for taking such good care of our home and we look forward to hearing from you next year. (or sooner)

Everything you want for that real cabin feel

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our stay at Mr. Dean's property. It was everthing we wanted. Loved the decor...even the little ones enjoyed all the "stuffed" animals on the walls. We enjoyed riding the trails with our ATVs. It was even nice to be able to have a family dinner for Easter around the cozy kitchen. The older kids asked we book for the next holidays before we even left. Mr Dean was a pleasure to work with as well. We will certaintly book again.

Family holiday getaway

  • 5 of 5

I can't begin to describe how beautiful this cabin is. I hesitate to rave about it because I want it to be available next time (which I hope will be very soon). It Is so relaxing, beautiful but yet comfortable to enjoy. Bob is wonderful to deal with. We were all amazed by all the stuffed animals and didn't need to go anywhere to enjoy. The grandchildren loved it, especially the wolf. All I can say is I was looking for possible ways to go back on my drive home. PERFECT. PERFECT
