The owners live in a Northern suburb of Philadelphia, and began searching for the perfect property to build a weekend home in 2000, and finally finished construction and took occupancy the day after Thanksgiving in 2004. The property is named "The Fourth Woods" which reflects a childhood memory of the owner. He and his brothers grew up in farm land area filled with forests and fields, and it was their daily playground. They would venture out from home and explore through several large tracts of woodland for several miles until reaching the ''Third Woods'' as they called it, which was deep, mysterious and as far as anyone would go. Time passed, drivers licenses and other interests took hold and suburban sprawl took the woodland. Fast forward a few decades; hunting and walking though this 50 acre mountain property reminded the owner of those days and just how much he enjoyed those days and the outdoors. 'The Fourth Woods' seemed appropriate.
Robert Dean Jr. purchased this cabin in 2004
As children, our family went on summer vacations to mountain lake areas such as Pennsylvania's Wallenpaupack, New Yorks Lake George and New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee. Fond memories of camping trips to Tobyhanna and Promised land State Parks, and visiting a friends house on Lake Wallenpaupack. We built our dream vacation home after a two year search for an ideal parcel of land. This one had all of the elements we were looking for; secluded and scenic, huntable woodland with a creek, and close to a large body of water that offered recreation. Not until after we moved in did it become apparent just how perfect our choice was as we kept discovering all that the surrounding small towns had to offer and the area within 30 minutes travel. We began implementing a wildlife habitat improvement program on the property in 2009 and clear cut two 1 acre deer crop fields and a 3 acre sanctuary. We are thinking about building a pond below the house just into the woods and are planning to begin a natural landscape plan for the open area surrounding the house sometime this year.
This log cabin (home) is used frequently by its owners and therefore is furnished and maintained at a much higher standard than a 'rental only' property. The size of the property at '50 acres' of woodland, is a feature almost completely unique that most vacation rental homes simply don't have. The time, effort, and expense put forth in decorating the interior were an endeavor of love and enthusiasm and we think our home reflects that. It is a wonderfully relaxing and quiet setting. You can feel so comfortable and secluded at the cabin yet you are only a short distance from so many things like shopping, dining and many forms of entertainment and of course Lake Wallenpaupack. There are several public boat accesses and beaches around the 15 mile long lake. Best of all when at our cabin, you don't have to be near the sounds and bustle of the big lake 24/7, only when you want to be.
It is a very personal place with a lot of soul. The nature is beautiful and the house is very homy. We will be coming back!
I have never been more pleased with a cabin experience. Home is spacious and luxurious. Great for a couples retreat or a family vacation. Mr. Dean rental home provides everything you would want from a "Cabin in the Woods". My husband and I look forward to coming back again. Thank you Mr. Dean, you were a pleasure to do business with!!!
I can't begin to describe how beautiful this cabin is. I hesitate to rave about it because I want it to be available next time (which I hope will be very soon). It Is so relaxing, beautiful but yet comfortable to enjoy. Bob is wonderful to deal with. We were all amazed by all the stuffed animals and didn't need to go anywhere to enjoy. The grandchildren loved it, especially the wolf. All I can say is I was looking for possible ways to go back on my drive home. PERFECT. PERFECT
This was our third stay within the past year. Our goal each time was to have a quiet getaway with our dogs. Our first trip was just my husband, myself and the dogs. We added 3 adult children the second trip and this time there were 7 adults. It will take us awhile to outgrow the house! Plenty of room to spread out. The house is very warm and cozy with a kitchen with all of the amenities. We only dined out twice during our stays and both times we went to The Frog Town Inn which we highly recommend. Our favorite things about the property are the
woods and the our door fire pit. Despite the unseasonably warm, rainy December, we still managed to spend equal amounts of time indoor and out. We feel very much " at home" and treat it as such. The owner is very accessible and responsive.
When you read the description of this place, and even previous reviews, you can't help but be a little skeptical. "Really? Is it that good?" Yes. Yes it is. We stayed at the cabin for a weekend with a group of friends this past February. The cabin was spacious, clean, and had great amenities. We took advantage of the hot tub and foosball table and loved the layout--plenty of space in the basement to relax with privacy upstairs. We skied at Montage, about 30-40 minutes away, but not a bad drive at all. And Montage is worth it - great skiing for a good value and less crowds. The best part is the cabin really feels like you're out in the woods, away from the hustle and bustle. Snow was deep, everywhere; stars were bright, air was crisp and cold--a perfect winter getaway. Highly recommended! I should also mention the owner is fantastic with communication--provides plenty of details and quick to respond should you have any questions. This is the type of person you want to deal with on VRBO.
We stayed in this beautiful cabin for a weekend in the Poconos with our friends and had a wonderful time. The house is particularly well maintained, very cozy, and charming as can be. It is the perfect place to relax and spend time with friends and family as it had plenty of room and was very quiet and peaceful. We just loved all of the "mountain house" decor! We took advantage of the hot tub and and the Foosball table and of course took many photos in front of the murals in the den area. Would highly recommend this property!!
