Welcome to Marshwind!
A great place for a couple to spend a relaxing, quiet week on the coast.
Located in the historic fishing village of Prospect, perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean - where crashing waves, granite rocks and wildlife surround you.
Open the door and you are just a few feet from the ocean's edge. Enjoy ocean views from every window in the home.
Stay inside and watch the tide ebb & flow from a comfy chair or venture out for one of the many coastal-trail or in-land hikes. Don't forget your camera, you will see beauty in the amazing vistas & abundant wildlife. Marvel at how plants and trees cling to the exposed granite coast.
Interested in birds? You will be able to add many coastal and ocean bird species to your list. Birds often make a stop in our backyard during their migrations in the fall & spring. Winter brings an abundance of Northern ducks.
Bring your kayaks or rent from a local outfitter - launch them from the boat ramp in your back-yard and explore some of the best kayaking coastline in Eastern Canada - shipwrecks, deserted islands and lighthouses are just waiting for you to discover.
Marshwind is perfect for a couple looking to get away from it all and enjoy some peace at the seaside - while still being close enough to it all for day-trips to Nova Scotia's attractions.
In 2012 Marshwind, was used as a set location for the Hallmark movie 'Christmas with Holly'.
Prospect Village is simply magical. We had lived in the Village for several years and knew that we never wanted to leave.
We jumped at the chance to buy this 150 year old Fisherman's Cape home and then proceeded to bring it back to life. We restored it's original charm with an architectural flair and updated it with modern, eco-friendly conveniences.
Living in Prospect is like living in a wildlife park - with the ocean just steps from the home, you can sit back with your tea and watch wildlife in their natural enviroment. If you want to get a bit closer to the action - there are several coastal & in-land hikes
This home gives a rare glimpse into the past - when you first arrive in the Village, you will feel like you have stepped back in time as many of the homes have mantianed their original designs.
Nature is all around you - bird lovers will enjoy spotting Eagles, Herons, Willets, rare shore birds and coastal ducks to name a few.
In 2012 Marshwind was featured as a key location in the Hallmark movie 'Christmas with Holly', using shots from both the inside and outside of our home. Many movies have been shot in our beautiful village over the years.
We had a great week at Marshwind. The location is superb- just 20 minutes from Halifax- but a world away in a dramatically scenic village on the shore. The house is cozy yet spacious, and very well equipped with everything you need. The kitchen is especially nice to be in with a wall of windows overlooking the marshes and the cove. Watch the wildlife, the sunsets, or the tides- it's mesmerizing. The whole property is very well maintained and reflects the owners love for this house and the unique village that surrounds it.
We spent our days sightseeing in the area and were delighted to come back to our oasis by the sea. Our hosts were very helpful in providing suggestions for shopping and attractions. The neighborhood is full of local charm and the people so friendly and welcoming. We've visited Nova Scotia before, but this was our most relaxing and fun trip. We'd love to come back for a longer stay.
After reading this review, one might think we are old friends/family/promoters of the owners but we have only had the pleasure of meeting them now. For anyone seeking peace, tranquility, relaxation as well as much fun and adventure as anyone might desire, this is hands down the place! We already have recommended it to many. Book early!!!
First, the owner Meagan has been absolutely wonderful in her warm welcoming hospitality and very helpful tips and recommendations. The home has clearly been a labour of love for the family and the warmth and peace of the place had my husband and two daughters (12 and 17) breathe a sigh of relief even before stepping through the door. It is located in a picturesque and quintessentially friendly little fishing village, on the tranquil bay side with the magnificent ocean across the street. It was a very short drive (25ish minutes) to either Halifax or Peggy's Cove with all their amenities, yet as private and remote as a weary traveller may yearn for. The simple and very tasteful décor had a soothing effect on us all.
The home itself was generously appointed with anything one might reasonably wish for with a clean lovely modern kitchen, laundry, etc. The views from almost any part of the home were magnificent, particularly the kitchen/sitting area which offered a panoramic view of the bay with the ever-moving tides and wildlife of sea birds, deer, crabs, and fish. At high tide we kayaked among the grasses with curious deer approaching us.
The bedrooms (w/ comfy bed!) offered lovely views of the bay and the ocean side through picture windows and skylights. A third floor loft offered a perfect getaway and more lovely views and even more sitting/sleeping areas.
We were blessed during our stay of a combination of cool/wet weather (12C in July) which forced us to reconnect, relax, play games and read in the comfort of a gas fireplace and electric heating, then dry sunny 24C-ish days that had us out kayaking and exploring the incredible coast and tidal pools from the trail just up the street where we saw some of the most gorgeous sunsets of our lives. Not having experience the Canadian east coast before, we now 'get' Lauren Harris and his passion for the beaten-smooth landscapes.
When we didn't feel like cooking, it was a short drive to restaurants that pleased both the meat lovers and seafood fanatics of our family. The nearby towns of Peggy's Cove, Chester Mahone Bay and Lunenberg were a treat for the senses.
The owners are to be complemented on restoring their home to capture the historic nature of the old house wile adding modern features! Well done! The setting is amazing...ocean views out the windows, a deck and porch overlooking the ocean, a beautiful flower garden. Hiking along the rocky coast is available just one block from the house. And the location is a short ride to both Peggy's Cove and Halifax. Lunenberg, the Bay of Fundy are day trips away from this great location. Marshwind was everything we had hoped for!
My wife and I arrived to the sleepy little village of Prospect early in the morning to find our "home" for the week cozy and impeccably kept. The cottage is nestled just on the edge of the bay with a glorious view of the water. Whether you are looking to see the sights or relax by the fireplace on the chilly nights, Marshwind offers a little bit of something for everyone. Plenty of places nearby to purchase local food for those who like to cook, and a variety of restaurants in nearby Halifax, for those who prefer to leave the dishes to someone else. The owner was most helpful from start to finish and provided insider tips for our stay. Without a doubt, we plan to re-visit Marshwind.
Marshwind was everything we hoped it would be and much more. My husband and I and two children enjoyed a week there and we wished we could have stayed longer. It was such a pleasure to return to this beautifully restored and renovated home after a fun day of sightseeing in nearby Halifax, Peggy's Cove and Lunenberg. Prospect is such a quaint and picturesque village and the people we met were so warm and friendly. The home is spacious and stylishly decorated and has all the modern amenities including an excellent wi-fi connection and satellite television, which my kids really appreciated. We would not hesitate to return there one day and would highly recommend this property to anyone planning to visit the area.
We really enjoyed our stay at Marshwind...was a beautiful house, and such a neat little village. I would definitely suggest it to anyone wanting to explore Nova Scotia
