This beautiful one bedroom home lies in the heart of the tropical district of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. Situated in Leilani Estates, one of the more upscale communities in the area, this home features an entire acre of land on which to relax, unwind and get away from it all. Smell the plumeria, gaze upon the hundreds of wild orchids surrounding the property, and let the tropical birds welcome you with their song.
Then, when you're good and rested, check out the wonderful nearby places to visit. Start with Old Pahoa Town, with 11 multi-national restaurants to choose from and an extremely well stocked Natural Foods store. Expand to the surrounding Puna district and visit the world famous Kapoho snorkeling ponds, the Red Road to Kalapana and its natural hot ponds (fed by the island's volcanic activity), and Lava Tree State park.
Within an hour or so you could be in lovely Volcano, situated near the rim of the Kilauea Crater and on your way to viewing the ongoing lava activity in Volcano National Park (ongoing for 20 plus years!).
If you ever feel the need to leave the Puna district (why leave paradise?), there's plenty more to see. Waimea town, social center of the famous Parker Ranch, Kailua-Kona and it's shopping meccas, Kawi and gorgeous scenery, arts and crafts that it has to offer. Waterfalls, helicopter rides, para-sailing, hiking, kayaking, Hamakua Coast...
I am a former New York actor turned computer programmer. Having grown up on Oahu, I have always had emotional ties with the islands. In 2003, I was fortunate to be able to acquire the house and an additional 15 acres in nearby Pahoa. I am very interested in sustainable living. The house already uses rainwater and it is heated by the sun. The next step will be PV solar panels and an organic garden.

Pahoa is the last affordable place in the Hawaiian islands. It is also very quiet, rural and far from the maddening crowd. If you're a tourist that likes to get away from all the tourists, the is the place to be.
The house is in a very quiet neighborhood and it is set back from the road 2/3 of the length of the lot. As such, you have a nice feeling of being away from it all. The house is also situation in a section of Leilani Estates that had a big fire several years ago. As such, it is not as lush and other parts of Leilani and therefore has fewer mosquitos and more sunshine.
Beautiful, private and spacious house, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. The huge bedroom can be closed off from the rest of the house, which was great when we had sleeping children and didn't want to disturb them. The open-plan kitchen and living area is great, with doors that open to let in the breeze and light.
The kitchen and bathroom were well stocked with everything we could need!
The washer and dryer were a bonus, great to be able to do our own laundry over our two week stay.
The Internet was fast, television was good.
We loved the location, but you definitely need a car as its a few miles from anything. The gardens blocked the neighbours and road from view, and made us feel like we were tucked away in the jungle.
There is a great kids playground a couple of streets away.
We were really happy with this accomodation, and would love to stay again in future.
We spent the month of February in this wonderful little house in Leilani Estates. It was absolutely perfect for us and served as a great home base for our daily excursions throughout the Big Island. The house was plenty big for 2 people and was equipped with everything we needed. The property is completely private, quiet with nice low-maintenance gardens and landscaping. And we loved the "Red Road" and of course the heated tidal pools nearby. We would definitely rent this property again.
We loved this location and would come back in a heartbeat. The grounds are so private you could sunbathe in the front yard. The king size bed is a must. The house is huge, two full rooms with closing doors. The home is furnished including an ample kitchen for two. Not fancy but quaint.
You don't need air conditioning because there are so many doors to open and fans available.
The local town has an organic grocery and high end restaurants. Not chains, real mom and pop owned restaurants (we are from California wine country so that matters)

Clean and well equipped property.
This house is recommended. we stayed there 1/15-1/19. I saw good reviews on Home Away but I wasn't expecting this greatness for the $50/night condominium. This house has everything we needed. And location is perfect. 30 mins drive from Hilo airport and 50 mins to Kilauea volcano.
It's also close to a Ahalanui beach park that I really recommend you to visit.(15 min from this place)
Place is clean and very practical for no matter how long stay.
It was our first visit to big island and we had a great time.
