Pago, built by the founders of Nubs Nob, is lovingly cared for and updated by it's current owners. Watch an occasional eagle fly by on the lake side or the hummingbirds at the feeder on the inland side. Walk the beach for miles in either direction. Relax at days end with a beach fire as you watch for lit up freighters in the shipping lanes. If you are a bicyclist, M 119 right off the driveway, is a favorite of many riders.
Cross Village is one-point-two miles down the road with Three Pines Art Gallery, Legs Inn restaurant and bar, and a convenience store/deli/gas station. Twenty minutes to the north is Mackinac Island and its amenities to choose from. Twenty minutes to the south is the Harbor Springs area with Boyne Highlands and other golf courses to choose from. For those who enjoy shopping there is the Petoskey Gaslight district or the boutiques in downtown Harbor Springs.
A stop at a local bait shop will help you locate the hot fishing spots among the many surrounding inland lakes and Lake Michigan. Many local marinas rent motorboats or kayaks if you choose to be on the water for a day.
Ideal for families or couples.
We were entrusted with the care of Pago in 1998. The adventure in renovating and renting began immediately. Our children have grown up while helping with the care and keeping of Pago. Family and friends have been wonderful in offering advice and support. Through the years we have been blessed to have had many wonderful people as our guests, some we now consider friends, as they have returned many summers. While renovating Pago we have tried to stay true to the spirit in which Pago was intended. It is a place to realize the beauty that surrounds us, to enjoy the outdoors, a cure for 'nature deficit disorder.' We live in the Petoskey area (40 minutes away) and are easily accesible should our guests have any questions or needs. We have actively tried to improve the Pago experiance every year by renovating and listening to our guests suggestions. Having grown up in the immediate area we are able to offer our guests the 'locals' insight on some of the areas attractions and services available. We prefer to talk with potential guests before we agree on the contract. In talking, person to person, with our guests, we feel we can honestly answer questions they may have. However, we hope our guests will be honest in how they present themselves also. We understand that Pago may not be what some are looking for. Vacations are precious time, to be spent with those you love, if Pago is not the right fit, it is better for all to decide that early on. Our goal is for all of our guests to have an enjoyable and relaxing stay at Pago. Please feel free to give us a call if you are interested in renting Pago so that we may answer any questions you might have.
If you are looking for privacy, and to get away from it all, this is the place for you. Should you choose to explore the surrounding area there are many attractions within 20-30 minutes driving time. Pago allows for an intimate get-a-way or time to reconnect with your family without the daily intrusions.
Lake Michigan plays a starring role at Pago. The cottage is very unassuming when you drive up to it. However when you step inside and see the view thru the row of windows overlooking the lake it changes everything. Wood floors and the fieldstone fireplace upstairs give it the'Up North' feeling. Downstairs the tile floors and stone fireplace help it feel clean and cozy. Outside, the beach, dunes and lake are constantly changing. We have tried to allow for many options to enjoy various outdoor locations. There are chairs and tables for your use outside. They are lightweight so that you may take advantage of moving them to where you are most comfortable.
We rented Pago for one week August 20-27. What a charming property! Ron and Andi are absolutely wonderful to work with. Pago, conveniently located, we were never without something to do or see. The house sits on a hill with just a few steps down to a wonderful sandy beach. On the first level, the house has beautiful (well varnished) hardwood floors and an amazing stone fireplace. We immediately fell in love when we opened the door and immediately saw nothing but beautiful blue waters of Lake Michigan! The screened in porch is beyond the large picture windows that line the whole wall of the living and dining room. The lower level is just as charming with tiled floors and fireplace. We had a fire the first night we arrived since it was quite chilly, and it was GREAT! The fire pit on the beach is perfectly located. Our mornings started out slow every day with a walk on the beach south, which is Conservancy property. Very private! Every day we enjoyed walking out to the point (to the south) to collect rocks. Crepe's at the Good Hart camping trailer are a MUST! Dinner at Leg's Inn in Cross Village is a MUST. Breakfast at the Old World Cafe is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!! The decor, service, and food are outstanding at Old World Cafe. We hope they offer a dinner service by next year. Daily visits to the local artist sanctuary in Cross Village is a TOTAL MUST!!! Three Pines Studio is AMAZING!!! You can buy art, look at art, or make art. Maddie is a textile painter and very informative. The owner, Gene, is a wealth of knowledge, and an amazing potter. The General Store-Marathon station in Cross Village is a good place to go for beverages, snacks, and some deli foods. The Curio shop across from Leg's Inn was a real treat because it has unique items from around the world. Very nice european toys for children. Pago is absolutely perfect in every way. I cannot think of one negative. The location is perfect, right off the Tunnel of Trees. The driveway is long, so you don't see the house from the road. If I had to make one request it is for a King size bed in the main floor bedroom, but the Queen size bed is certainly very comfortable. The furniture is all very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with nice dishes, pots, pans, pitchers, etc...
We plan to return every year Ron and Andi will have us.
Our son age 8 said, "I just want to sit here and think about this moment, because I love it here."
PAGO IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Thank you, Ron and Andi
We really enjoyed our stay here. Our pup loved running on the beach, and we enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. Very peaceful location. House is wonderful!
This was our second year at Pago and we love it. Very clean, well stocked, beautiful views. The owners are very accommodating and eager to make tour stay the best it can be. Returning next year for sure!
This place is not fancy but it is absolutely perfect. It's been several years , but my family stayed here 5 or 6 summers in a row, until our numbers grew too large and we had to find someplace larger. (I was required to submit a date for the review but wasn't able to go back any further than 2013.)
The driveway is on the the Tunnel of Trees, just down the road from Legg's Inn, and you can easily take day trips to Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Mackinaw Island, and the UP.
I really never wanted to leave though. The setting is secluded and breathtaking, the cottage is cozy, and I still dream of returning some day. I think I cried every time we had to check out. Hopefully I can return soon!
This home has an absolutely perfect setting.. it is private, quiet, miles of beach, breathtaking sunsets. The cottage is extremely clean and comfortable. The surrounding area has many, many activities if one wants, from visits to the Straits, to Harbor Springs, to hiking, etc. The road, Tunnel of Trees, which the home is situated on, is beautiful and designated a Heritage Route. The owners are very helpful and easy to contact. They are prompt with any question or request. All in all, this property is a wonderful place.
