About the property

This beautiful Tuscan country house dating from 1753 is set in the lush hills of Versilia, overlooking the coast. The property approached by a private drive of 500 meters and is surrounded by gardens, fields, olive groves and woodland that amount to 20 acres of secluded tranquillity. The property was completely restored between 2004 /2008 and is furnished to the highest standards having air conditioning in the bedrooms, full underfloor heating and an open fireplace. Relaxing, peaceful, home from home

  • 5 of 5

Il Giardino is a lovely, peaceful villa set in a stunning hillside location with impressive views. We stayed for two weeks with our two teenage sons and there was ample room for all of us. The villa itself is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and is exactly as shown in the photographs. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathrooms are large and modern. It was a joy to sit out on the terrace overlooking the large pool and garden which are beautifully maintained. Martin and Giusy live just behind the villa and are always around to offer advice or help when needed but they are never intrusive. There is a steep, winding track up to the villa but it is no problem to drive up and down and there are two dogs and some cats around the site but they are completely friendly and no bother at all (the dogs do bark momentarily as Martin & Giusy leave but they quickly settle again and did not bother us in the slightest). The villa is ideally located to visit lots of places - we visited Pisa, Florence, Lucca, Cinque Terre and drove up into the mountains and the Garfagnana. We were all very sad to leave Il Giardino (even our sons were sorry to leave) and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a wonderful place to stay.

If we can be of help again at some point in the future, please let us know. Once again, many thanks for your kind words...and also for leaving the house so beautifully clean and tidy. Best Regards. Martin and Giusy.

Wonderful house with great outdoor space

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fabulous holiday in Tuscany at Il Giardino. The house is just beautiful, much bigger internally than it appears in the photos and the outdoor space is brilliant for children - a big grassy area where they could play, fantastic pool and Martin is happy for you to wander around the rest of the grounds. It's so peaceful and we really enjoyed the terrace too - it was lovely to sit there admiring the views and listening to the chimes of the bell tower on the hillside above. The house is well equipped, immaculately clean and full of beautiful pieces that the owners have collected on their travels. Martin's house is very close, but he didn't intrude at all, yet was always on hand and approachable if needed to give advice and recommendations and he was very interesting to talk to having led a very colourful life! The house is well placed to visit lots of places - Cinque Terre, the Garfagnana, the coast, Pisa, Lucca and Florence. Our boys loved Martin's dogs who were very well behaved and didn't venture into our part of the garden unless invited by the children. All in all we had a wonderful time (despite the mosquitoes) and can't wait to return, in fact we're worried about raving too much in case someone else wants the same week as us!

Great location and a fabulous pool

  • 3 of 5

This villa is finished to a high standard and is well equipped. The owner will request a 500 euro deposit on arrival.

All rooms are of a good size and the two bedrooms both have a/c which was badly needed.

The pool is fantastic, large size with a sloped entry making it ideal for young children and situated within good sized gardens.

This was our first time in a villa with owners on site. This was fine other than when they went out of an evening their two dogs barked incessantly which disturbed some of our evenings.

We all suffered from mosquito bites sitting out in the evening, so take plenty of repellent and bite cream!

The villa is ideally located 40mins drive from Pisa and is close to both the beaches and points of interest such as a Florence.

Fabulous Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our first trip to Tuscany, where we spent our second week at Il Giardino. The house is in a lovely setting with splendid views and a superb pool. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, and had all the equipment needed for any self catering we chose to do. Martin and Guisy were excellent hosts, very friendly with excellent restaurant recommendations. They have thought of everything when creating this amazing, relaxing holiday home.

We were sorry to leave.

Thank you, Martin and Guisy.

Lovely Villa in great location.Private & peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

Villa was the most comfortable and well equipped one we have ever stayed in. The location was great. Totally peaceful and great for relaxing, yet close enough to the motorway for easy access to Florence, Pisa, Siena and Chianti. Kids loved the pool and the Alpacas! Martin was very helpful when we needed him and gave us advice on where to eat out and shop. We all had a great holiday and would not hesitate to return, to finish the bits we did not manage to do.

Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

We (two adults, two kids, 8 and 10 years) stayed at Il Giardino for two weeks. It was a perfect stay and we enjoyed it a lot. The property is even nicer and bigger than it looks in the pictures. Everything is very well maintained and clean. The house is furnished nicely and beautiful pieces of art are decorated everywhere which the owners brought from their journeys. The A/C worked perfectly, so did the WLAN. The pool is very big and inviting. It is surounded by a huge English-style lawn, where the children used to play when they were not in the pool (which they were most of the time). Furthermore, there are 2 dogs, a few hens, 17 alpacas (!!!), 2 goats and 5 cats living on the property. The kids just loved to hang around with all the animals, in particular with the two cuddly dogs. The dogs are super friendly and are trained not to come close to the guests' house, so even if you are afraid of dogs (as I am), this is no problem at all. It was particularly funny to sit on the terrasse in the evening, have dinner, watch the sun go down and then watch the Alpacas coming to the fence which separated the lawn/ pool from the grazing land of the Alpacas. Please note: As the animals are kept in the distance on the property, they did not at all intrude the pool/ lawn/ house area, no smell, no noises. It was like having a little private zoo without having any discomfort from it. Martin and Giusy, the owners of the property, live in an adjacent house on the property. They were very friendly and helpful and not intrusive at all. Our son needed to see a doctor during the stay and Martin arranged for a doctor's appointment in the near village and even accompanied us, as the doctor only spoke Italian (which we do not). All together we can only highly recommend the stay in Il Giardino and we will certainly come back when we visit Tuscany again! Thanks a lot for the very pleasant stay, Martin and Guisy!

Il Giardino is located in the hills just above the village of Stiava and reached by a private road. Just across the valley is the Village of Bargecchia who's church bells are said to have inspired Puccini to write the opera 'Tosca'. The house is surrounded by 20 acres of garden, fields, olive groves and woodland with views to coast. Thanks to it's location the area keeps it's green and verdant look for all of the year. The resort town of Viareggio with it's beaches, restaurants and excellent shopping is 15 minutes by car and Historic Lucca 25 minutes. Between the coastal plane of Versilia, with its pine woods and lakes, to the Appenine Mountains famous for their marble mines, and stunning scenery the area really offer something for every one. It is possible to partake of almost every sport and activity imaginable from Golf to Skiing, Sailing to Walking, Paragliding to fishing. The area is also close to many famous cultural areas such as Firenze, Pisa and Sienna with all they have to offer.
