Bodden Town Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

1Bed Room, 1 Bath, Kitchen, Eating area

If you enjoy being on the beach, Castaway Lodge is a cleverly designed and thoughtfully appointed cottage set back 125 feet from the water’s edge. It is a charming, immaculate and well equipped, air conditioned studio style bungalow situated on a half acre, with your own private beach. Although small and compact, what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. Castaway is the ideal spot for couples who are outdoor oriented and prefer the seclusion that the grounds provide.

While you are more than able to cook and enjoy your meals inside the cottage there is an outdoor grill and large patio table with chairs under a tree shaded grotto. And after your meal you can take a relaxing stroll along the beach or just nap in the hammock under the cover of coconut palms and almond trees.

The lodge is situated in historic Bodden Town, away from the hustle and bustle of Seven Mile Beach but centrally located for exploring the island. Trips to the Mastic Trail, Botanic Park, Crystal Caves, East End, Rum Point and Turtle Farm are easily accessible, but you will find abundant indigenous wildlife right outside your front door! There is a ‘changing station’ for hermit crabs, wild Cayman parrots scouring the sea grape tree for fruit and you may even spy an iguana in the almond tree!

This is the ideal escape to the place you’ve dreamed about for too long. Worry-free, romantic, idyllic, relaxing----a chance to recharge and spend some quality time with your love at this authentic Private Caribbean Getaway!

About Thom Zerhusen

Susan and Thom are originally from Baltimore, Maryland but they met in Cayman. Thom was working as a dive instructor at Don Foster's Dive and Susan was visiting Cayman on a dive vacation. 'We met on a dive trip to Stingray City and the rest is well...history.'

They decided to call Cayman home and bought a dilapidated beach house in the heart of Bodden Town that they renovated and have lived in for over 20 years.

'After Hurricane Ivan destroyed most of Bodden Town and the Island we had to sart all over. We were lucky to find Castaway and decided to renovate the existing structures and make them available to visitors.' The lodge was first to be finished and became available to guest in 2011 and now the cottage is ready too. 'We have tried to make them unique and special and if you come to Castaway we hope you will find our little piece of paradise as magical as we do.'

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was by far the best place to stay. Our Honeymoon was lifted to such heights staying here. The privacy needed for two newly weds and the beauty of the island all met together beautifully at our cozy spot. The hammocks, sun, sand and of course the sea made our trip unforgettable in every way. Sandy regards and wishes, Niki & Rob

Beautiful slice of paradise!

We truly enjoyed unplugging in this comfortable oceanside escape. The lodge was well equipped and the hosts were warm and welcoming. The private beach was quiet and the view was wonderful. We definitely recommend this seaside jewel.

Away from the crowds

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here fore a week in March, and couldn't have been happier with the accommodations. It was so nice being away from the crowds of Seven Mile Beach.

Thom and Susan went out of their way to answer our questions and were perfectly pleasant to shoot the breeze with. Susan is an accomplished artist, and we even bought a few of her offerings for sale to take home.

The condo is cozy, but it was truly impressive how many space-saving ideas they had employed. I was constantly remarking about how nearly everything we needed was there. Besides , you're not there to hang out inside. The beach is lovely, and there are a few local Boddentown shops and restaurants within walking distance.

While you may need to drive a bit to get a wide selection of shops and restaurants, Boddentown is the most perfectly centralized location on the island. It appeared equidistant from Seven Mile Beach, Rum Point, and the East End. If you want to see the whole island, it's the perfect location.

In sum, couldn't have been happier. Highly recommended.

Slice of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Thom and Susan are perfect hosts for your trip to Grand Cayman. This little cottage has everything you need to relax and enjoy your time on this beautiful island. Bodden Town is far enough away from Seven Mile Beach that you won't be overrun by tourists (in fact, you won't see much of anyone on your private beach!) but centrally located so a drive to ANYWHERE you want to go on the island won't take much more than 30 minutes. Snorkeling off the beach was some of the best on the island, and we saw a baby nurse shark our last day about 200 yards out! If you are looking for hustle and bustle, kitschy island souveneirs, and Margaritaville restaurants, this place is not for you. If you want the true laid back island experience, book Castaway for a truly relaxing gateway to explore Grand Cayman. This place has everything you need - towels, a local cell phone, a cooler, a grill, ziploc bags and everything else you wish you could bring in your suitcase!

Peaceful perfection

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is away from the touristy areas and the crowds brought in by the cruise ships. It has a great central location convenient for exploring the island on day trips. We rented a car and explored the whole island but were always grateful we had chosen this little piece of paradise to call home for the week. Cottage is provisioned so thoughtfully from kitchen supplies ; spices, ziploc bags to extra sunblock there's even a cooler provided that was so handy on our day trips.Thom and Susan were wonderful hosts, we arrived to a welcome gift of Thom's homemade rum cake(yum!) they live close so are available should you need them, but are never intrusive.Snorkeling is great right in front from cottage healthy coral good variety of fish and lots of lobster. As others have mentioned there are so many good sites to snorkel on this island you can't go wrong. The private ocean front cottage is full of charm it really feels like your own piece of paradise. My only regret is we should of stayed longer.

This was our first time in the Caymans, and for our type of travel this was the perfect place and location (we prefer to be away from the hoards of people and touristy areas). We rented a car and were able to see so much of the island. Thom and Susan were great hosts, and the little lodge was amazingly provisioned…ziploc bags, coffee/tea, sugar/sweetener, some spices, oils, vinegar and cooking sprays, beach towels, left-over bug spray, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc. There is TV, but we didn’t watch it, and free wifi (which could be a little slow, but hey…we were on vacation so it wasn’t a huge deal). We pulled the chaise chairs down to the beach some mornings and watched the sunrise and every evening and sat in the shade just under a tree and relaxed and took in the sights and sounds of the ocean. We also did a little shelling (with some success). It was amazing downtime for us, which is JUST what we were looking for. We will definitely be back. LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!! - John & Susan

Romance and Relax for a week in the middle of Grand Cayman

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week on the beautiful island of Grand Cayman at Tom and Susans beautiful little lodge. It is perfect for 2 people. At first i worried about being so close to the road but it didn't matter at all. We had the fan and air on and never heard the traffic when we slept. Comfy bed, Internet, TV, DVR. Very quickly i realized i packed too much. They supplied us with bathroom supplies like shampoo, cond. body wash, plenty of towels and toilet paper. A basket of sunscreen, bug spray, bandaids, face wipes…. In the well equipped kitchen was also, plastic wrap, foil, baggies, spices, tea, sugar, oils, spray for pans…… Plenty of ice in the freezer a cooler, a cell phone, pizza delivery info….. Need i go on? OKAY to drink the water! Seriously the best equipped VRBO that we have ever stayed at. Tom was quick to be there if you needed him or information - yet let us be the rest of the time. We ate breakfast in 6 morning because there really isn't anyplace close for breakfast. You will have the beach to yourself most of the time. Easy 2 minute beach walk to the pool at Turtlenest Inn which we almost always had to ourselves as well! They will bring you Pina Coladas to the pool if you ask ($15. US for 2) Excellent beach combing for shells and sea glass. My main requirement this vacation was to snorkel as much as possible, find turtles, stingrays etc. Grand Cayman has excellent snorkeling! You can snorkel right in at your cottage. Wear snorkel boots due to the rocks. Snorkel down the road at Spotts for almost guaranteed turtles. We went twice and stayed 2 hours each time because of the turtles. Spend an afternoon on the east end at Morritts (Mimis Dock good lunch!). snorkel under the dock! Supercool tarpons, hundreds and hundreds of fish. You may even see a reef shark or two like we did. Eek!

We did a 7am stingray tour with White Sands Watersports (about $59. each)and were the only boat out there! It was fantastic and so worth getting up early for. (they leave from Kaibo Yacht club - easy 30 min drive.) We enjoyed the brunch at Tukkas on SUnday (fed the frigate birds) . We liked Southcoast Bar and Grill - about 10 minutes away towards to East End. Lighthouse was good but pricey and not as relaxing.
